Yankees 3, Phillies 6 - Losing to the Ageless Wonder

Well, I sure got this wrong.

Jamie Moyer shut the Yankees down tonight, allowing only 4 baserunners over 8 innings.  It must have been the 82 MPH fastball that gave the Yankees problems.

AJ Burnett had better stuff but couldn't locate any of it, surrendering 6 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 1/3 innings.  He actually pitched badly enough to make Boone Logan look good.

As an aside, the Yankees really need another utility infield option - Kevin Russo and Ramiro Pena are both hitting their weight.

Play of the Game: Shane Victorino's 2nd inning triple put the Phillies up 4-0 and had the largest impact on the outcome of the game (17%).

Quote of the Game: This has to go to mrljdavid:

When asked if he was headed to Cooperstown after his career was over, Moyer responded, "Why? I’ve already been there, when my pal Abner Doubleday created the game."* That’s how old he is.

We were going to lose sometime

I had a bad feeling once I saw all the “Moyer is old, its in the bag crap”

I expected us to win every game for the remainder of the season now that we’ve caught up to the Rays. I’m so devastated I’m not sure I can continue being a Yankees fan.

Thank Cervelli the Rays also lost, if we were 1 game back in June, how long before we’re mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, or combined with the Mets, or just contracted altogether?

Any loss sucks, AJ is going to have his bad games

Look at CC, he has more than half his wins against the Os. Its early though.

I was pulling for Butler to win in a way.

I like Coach K, he’s a great coach, but a small mid-major school against a traditional power. They were this close ><. Hayward missed the shot by about an inch.

Being from Indiana I kept hearing the Hoosiers reference.

Although people don’t realize, that Milan (Hickory) actually lost the championship game before they won. So for the reference to be right, Butler would have to win next year.

He's no Hansbrough, that's for sure.

Harrison Barnes is supposed to be awesome. Larry Drew is really coming into his own as a PG, and John Henson went on a tear toward the end of the season. I have high hopes…

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions

They started recruiting Cody Zeller as well, the youngest brother.

He’s supposed to be the best of the three. Right now the leaders are IU and Butler (supposedly, no one really knows with the Zeller’s), but I’ve heard if UNC offers it’s over.

After last season I kind of wished our fans were more like UNCs. I mean IU is supposed to have one of the best fanbases in the county, but after last season some people are wanting Crean’s head on a silver platter just because he hasn’t turned around an impossible situation in two years. Some think we should have hired Brad Stevens. No and no.

I heard that they wanted his little brother.

Tyler is RIDICULOUSLY TALL. I’ve walked past him before and it’s just nuts.

I think it would take a lot for us to turn our back on Roy. He loves the program and we know that he does his best with it. When you lose people like Ty Lawson and Danny Green, it’s hard to immediately bounce back. Now, if he pulls a Matt Doherty all bets are off, I’m sure. I don’t think he will though.

Brad Stevens seems like a good coach. He’s gorgeous, so that could have something to do with my opinion. Seems like a good guy though.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Easy girl, Stevens is married.

He’s a good young coach, but I don’t want him over Crean right now. Stevens had one great run, but coaches a mid-major. Crean competed in the Big East with a program built for mid-majors.

People outside of our fanbase don’t realize exactly what the situation was. Many people think it was NCAA violations, it wasn’t. Many people think there were NCAA sanctions, there wasn’t. However, the situation was so hopeless no one not named Bob Knight could’ve turned it around yet without some serious violations.

UNC has good fans, I’ll give them that. It’s to the point now though, that I’m sick of some of ours.

I know he's married!

But so is DRob…

ANYWAY, I heard rumblings that Wake wanted Stevens after they fired Gaudio. I knew they had the pockets to put forth some serious change if they wanted to, but I don’t know if they actually went after him or not. I personally think they were stupid to even fire Gaudio to begin with. The guy now? His old school couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. Shouldn’t that set off about 439293 alarms?

I get the whole mid-major thing being different though. And people get lucky from time to time (ex: George Mason) so it’s not always indicative of how they will do every year. So for that, I think you guys were smart to stay away.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 2:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm a member of Hoosier Nation, the scout.com

forum. There’s one person convinced we could’ve had any number of great coaches. Throwing names like Mark Few (Gonzaga). He refuses to believes Crean was the best option we had.

Wake hired a guy from Colorado I believe. I heard rumors that they might hire McClain, but they didn’t. Instead, we got McClain. Colorado isn’t a big program though.

People are so entranced with Stevens after that run. He’s a mid-major coach, will be there for a long time. Things had to fall exactly right for them to make that run.

Yeah, their dude is from Colorado.

There was an article published in the newspaper that was written by either a fan or someone from that school and it basically said “He’s leaving on a plane to NC, let’s just hope he doesn’t come back”. Brutal. I think his daughter goes to Wake or something.

There’s a lot to be said for Cinderella. It’s a nice feel-good story. But it just doesn’t last for the most part. Plus, Heyward went pro, didn’t he? Big piece of that puzzle to fill for next year. At the end of the day, mid-majors are still mid-majors.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 2:32 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't post as much on Hoosier Nation as I used to.

I’m getting sick of the negativity about everything. I’ve got concerns but I’m going to support the coach and team. One person on there actually questioned my fandom, big mistake from a newbie.

Stevens is a good, young coach. He may have continued success at Butler, for a mid-major. However, Hayward is entering the draft as you said. He’s got a decent recruit coming in but not a highly regarded player. Of course, those recruiting rankings are crapshoots for the most part.

We were there too, not that long ago.

I would have killed for a .500 record at one point. It sucks.

I grew up on college basketball, as I’m sure you know. I’m learning to like college football slowly, but it’s nothing compared to how I feel about basketball and Yankee baseball. It HURTS when those two lose, but football is still kind of meh for me right now.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 2:42 AM EDT up reply actions

I grew up on IU.

That was pretty much it. My dad was a fan, and I watched the games with him. Just like UNC, we’re a traditional power, we (IU, UNC) compete for conference titles and Finals Fours/Championships. It’s what we’re used to.

I became a Yankees fan because I saw one WS on TV and that’s who I aligned with for whatever reason.

I can watch football. I like football, and used to play as I’m sure you know. Football can be very entertaining, but there’s a lot involved with it though.

I like learning how people became fans.

It’s really interesting to me how so many different ways got us all to a sort of common place.

Yeah.

I’ve never even been to a Yankees game in person. My parents did take me to the last game Pete Rose ever managed when I was a child. I got an autograph baseball by him too, but it got burned in a fire.

I'm jealous.

I’ve never lived anywhere close enough to a stadium. Plus, my family wouldn’t be down to go, and I don’t know who else would.

You live a hell of a lot closer than I do though.

I want to go to one sometime. I’m hoping they play the Cardinals in interleague play sometime, since that’s one of the closer stadiums I could go to. I want to make it to the Stadium, but that’s so frickin expensive.

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 3:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Closer than you, yes.

But not very close in general.

I don’t think I saw the Cardinal stadium when I was in St. Louis, but maybe I did. We went to the Arch and Six Flags, so everything that day was kind of a blur. I’ve also seen Wrigley, but didn’t actually go to a game there.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 3:04 AM EDT up reply actions

I've never been TO the arch, but I've been by there.

A lot of people in my area are Cardinals fans. Cardinals are my second favorite team. Actually, people here are split with Cards/Cubs/Reds pretty much. There’s the occassional Red Sox fan. One girl I know started liking the Sox because her fiancee does, I could’ve sworn she was smarter than that.

The Arch is kind of weird, but fun.

The little container you get into to go to the top kind of sketched me out. It was very…swingy.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 3:09 AM EDT up reply actions

It'd probably sketch me out too.

I hate heights, especially if something is ‘swingy’. The one time we went TO STL, we couldn’t enjoy it since it was for a funeral. Other than that I’ve been through there a few times.

Once with the girl that made me so damn bitter and jaded.

Opposites!

I was a little intimidated by the top of the Empire State Building because it was a super windy day and you’re actually OUTSIDE there. But at the Arch you aren’t outside at the top, so it didn’t bother me as much.

Small spaces though? They make me too nervous.

Well the movie wouldn't be live action.

It’d be more along the lines of Beaowulf, with the GCI animation or whatever it is. That’s what I read anyway, which was in an interview with the guy who voiced Lion-O. Have you ever seen the outtakes on youtube?

by JumpinJackFlash on Jun 17, 2010 3:54 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh, I knew of those outtakes before YouTube existed.

They are simply priceless!

Haha, also comparing it to Beowulf isn’t a good thing! (I’m joking, I know you meant the CG)

Yeah, Beowulf sucked.

It was awful.

Those outtakes are hilarious. “What the f*ck am I saying?” LOL

I'm going to have to give in to my inner nerd

and get the DVD set just to watch the cartoons again.

In this day and age, I can.

Hollywood’s pretty much run dry.

I thought the same thing when they made Speed Racer.

Now it’s like “Man, they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel”. I mean I liked Smurfs as a kid, but I don’t know about a movie.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:17 AM EDT reply actions

Ugh if you guys do this

I’ll have to force Kevin and Y10 to meet me at the dodgers. Not fairrr.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Sounds like fun

I might go up to NY for my BDay, you never know.

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Now that I’ve found out Ed lives 10 minutes away from me, I might see if he wanted to make a trip down.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:19 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ve lived here all my life (except last year at school), Albany area is where the parties at (not really)

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Almost got arrested up there back in 95

Driving with out a license, things you do for girls.

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey I was young and stupid ...and pretty scared, lol

I had my own car but not a license, never had a NY license actually.

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:29 AM EDT up reply actions

That didnt work in Florida

I couldnt talk my way out of it like in NY

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Geez.

I’ve only been pulled over once. I thought I was talking my way out of it, but I wasn’t. The guy was an ass, though. Chat me up and then still give me the ticket? Thanks.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:32 AM EDT up reply actions

I cant even count how many times Ive been pulled over

Its been that many. Most expensive was on I95 going through S Carolina

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Cops in the city of Albany are real tight. They don’t give a shit about ANYTHING.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I can definitely drop Ed a line if people are down to do it and we can figure out a time.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, just let me know!

Also, you missed my Stand Up Comedy up above!

Haha

I’ll be sure to lead the investigation.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Why??

I read a lot of mystery books.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Yup

Took a detour though, sucks doesnt it?

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, that does.

I have too many interests, not enough time. Not enough time to figure out what I want to do for real.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh, boys.

Get motivated!

I don’t know why I have the motivation. I just have wayyy too many things I’m interested in.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Law, writing, teaching...

I’ve never taken a class that I didn’t find interesting.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 5:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Also, reading.

I wish I could get paid to read.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 5:10 AM EDT up reply actions

My poor family :(

Never gave me the pep talk about strangers on the internet!

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Really?

My mom thinks that having a facebook is awful and means the whole world can see everything about me.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:36 AM EDT up reply actions

To be honest, if somebody is going to comb through all these threads to piece together personal information of me, use that one picture of me that I posted to try and track me down….bring em on.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Thats what I said, WWJD and Raise know my name and see my pic

Big deal, they coming to kill me….if not I’ll invite them in to watch the Yankees

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:45 AM EDT up reply actions

That's kind of how I feel.

If someone has that much time and they are that desperate, then whatever. I doubt it’s going to be any of you guys. And if it is, you better tell me who you are so I don’t call the police or something.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Haha I could just picture that. HEY WWJD! I used scarce bits of data on the internet to stalk you, but don’t worry, I mean no harm.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:47 AM EDT up reply actions

LoL, you know my name, where I live, what I look like

how I sound, and my comedy! I’m pretty well ahead of everyone!

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

Hahahahaha. I so would.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh I bet. If you’re good at working with the hecklers off the cuff, it gives you all sorts of material. Some times comics crumble though, but you seem confident and quick enough to just go with it.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah, hecklers can be funny sometimes.

But no reactions at all are awful!

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 17, 2010 4:53 AM EDT up reply actions

And I think a lot depends on the mood going in of the crowd. Because the more people around you are getting into it, the more enjoyable it is.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:54 AM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely.

I loved when the place was packed. That way I could tell what was working and what wasn’t.

by YankeesJets on Jun 17, 2010 4:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Well, true...

I think it would be hilarious to run into one of you that I know what you look like at the Stadium or something. “HEYYYY, it’s me! WWJD! You know, from PSA? No? Really?”

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:49 AM EDT up reply actions

That’s why I want to do a Pinstripe Alley day at the Stadium. That would be sick.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Alright, I’ll drop Ed a line, try and figure out a time that’s good for most people.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I already posted a picture, so I’m already screwed.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:33 AM EDT up reply actions

For real.

Random Question: Are you going to be a sophomore or a junior? Or does that violate the personal info threshold?

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:34 AM EDT up reply actions

An interesting question, I can’t really give you that straight of an answer though.

I skipped a grade in high school and started going to communiy college early, and then completed a 2 year degree there. Last year was my first year at a 4 year school, but based on some transferring issues, I need 3 more semesters to get my bachelors.

So I’m a junior I guess, but this coming year will be my 4th year of college.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Not a big deal, I was just wondering if my math was messed up.

Skipping a grade? Yeah, not surprised.

Sorry if it was a creepy question though.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Not creepy at all, don’t worry about it.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:40 AM EDT up reply actions

Probably so. How are you doing david?

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Good.

Can’t sleep. Having nightmares of Moyer. You?

by david d on Jun 17, 2010 4:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Pretty much the same. Commiserating with the night crew, doing our normal talk about movies, music, and anything else that comes up.

Do I remember correctly from another thread that you’re a Zeppelin fan?

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:48 AM EDT up reply actions

definitely. I like all kinds of rock; hard, soft, classic, metal. From U2 to Petty to Zeppelin to the Beatles to Metallica….If it’s good, I can appreciate it.

by david d on Jun 17, 2010 4:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Atta boy. I like every band you listed. You should talk to ImGivingYouARaise though, he is the music expert in these parts.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Heh, I do my best.

I’m about to pop on some Intergalactic before I head to bed!

Beastie Boys? Love that jam.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 17, 2010 4:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Hell yeah.

It was either that or Sure Shot. Sure Shot is probably my favorite Beastie Boys song.

Sabotage & Remote Control are bad-ass too

FreeBradshaw always gets me wanting to listen to Petty. His constant references to taking a suicidal leap always bring “Free Fallin’” to mind.

by david d on Jun 17, 2010 5:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Hahaha. That’s like his theme song. I bet he’d be an interesting guy to have a beer with.
