Yankees 3, Phillies 6 - Losing to the Ageless Wonder
Well, I sure got this wrong.
Jamie Moyer shut the Yankees down tonight, allowing only 4 baserunners over 8 innings. It must have been the 82 MPH fastball that gave the Yankees problems.
AJ Burnett had better stuff but couldn't locate any of it, surrendering 6 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 1/3 innings. He actually pitched badly enough to make Boone Logan look good.
As an aside, the Yankees really need another utility infield option - Kevin Russo and Ramiro Pena are both hitting their weight.
Play of the Game: Shane Victorino's 2nd inning triple put the Phillies up 4-0 and had the largest impact on the outcome of the game (17%).
Quote of the Game: This has to go to mrljdavid:
When asked if he was headed to Cooperstown after his career was over, Moyer responded, "Why? I’ve already been there, when my pal Abner Doubleday created the game."* That’s how old he is.

By the way... your second sentence should read "Jaime Moyer shutdown the YANKEES" .. not Phillies.. just letting you know
In Jeter, We trust.
Boon logan and Gaudin no hit the Phillies for 5.2 innings
iunno if that speaks to how bad the phillies offense is or how even worse AJ was tonight.
We were going to lose sometime
I had a bad feeling once I saw all the “Moyer is old, its in the bag crap”

I expected us to win every game for the remainder of the season now that we’ve caught up to the Rays. I’m so devastated I’m not sure I can continue being a Yankees fan.

Thank Cervelli the Rays also lost, if we were 1 game back in June, how long before we’re mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, or combined with the Mets, or just contracted altogether?

Although people don’t realize, that Milan (Hickory) actually lost the championship game before they won. So for the reference to be right, Butler would have to win next year.

He's no Hansbrough, that's for sure.
Harrison Barnes is supposed to be awesome. Larry Drew is really coming into his own as a PG, and John Henson went on a tear toward the end of the season. I have high hopes…

They started recruiting Cody Zeller as well, the youngest brother.
He’s supposed to be the best of the three. Right now the leaders are IU and Butler (supposedly, no one really knows with the Zeller’s), but I’ve heard if UNC offers it’s over.
After last season I kind of wished our fans were more like UNCs. I mean IU is supposed to have one of the best fanbases in the county, but after last season some people are wanting Crean’s head on a silver platter just because he hasn’t turned around an impossible situation in two years. Some think we should have hired Brad Stevens. No and no.

I heard that they wanted his little brother.
Tyler is RIDICULOUSLY TALL. I’ve walked past him before and it’s just nuts.
I think it would take a lot for us to turn our back on Roy. He loves the program and we know that he does his best with it. When you lose people like Ty Lawson and Danny Green, it’s hard to immediately bounce back. Now, if he pulls a Matt Doherty all bets are off, I’m sure. I don’t think he will though.
Brad Stevens seems like a good coach. He’s gorgeous, so that could have something to do with my opinion. Seems like a good guy though.
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions
Easy girl, Stevens is married.
He’s a good young coach, but I don’t want him over Crean right now. Stevens had one great run, but coaches a mid-major. Crean competed in the Big East with a program built for mid-majors.
People outside of our fanbase don’t realize exactly what the situation was. Many people think it was NCAA violations, it wasn’t. Many people think there were NCAA sanctions, there wasn’t. However, the situation was so hopeless no one not named Bob Knight could’ve turned it around yet without some serious violations.
UNC has good fans, I’ll give them that. It’s to the point now though, that I’m sick of some of ours.

I knew they had the pockets to put forth some serious change if they wanted to, but I don’t know if they actually went after him or not. I personally think they were stupid to even fire Gaudio to begin with. The guy now? His old school couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. Shouldn’t that set off about 439293 alarms?
I get the whole mid-major thing being different though. And people get lucky from time to time (ex: George Mason) so it’s not always indicative of how they will do every year. So for that, I think you guys were smart to stay away.

I'm a member of Hoosier Nation, the scout.com
forum. There’s one person convinced we could’ve had any number of great coaches. Throwing names like Mark Few (Gonzaga). He refuses to believes Crean was the best option we had.
Wake hired a guy from Colorado I believe. I heard rumors that they might hire McClain, but they didn’t. Instead, we got McClain. Colorado isn’t a big program though.
People are so entranced with Stevens after that run. He’s a mid-major coach, will be there for a long time. Things had to fall exactly right for them to make that run.

Yeah, their dude is from Colorado.
There was an article published in the newspaper that was written by either a fan or someone from that school and it basically said “He’s leaving on a plane to NC, let’s just hope he doesn’t come back”. Brutal. I think his daughter goes to Wake or something.
There’s a lot to be said for Cinderella. It’s a nice feel-good story. But it just doesn’t last for the most part. Plus, Heyward went pro, didn’t he? Big piece of that puzzle to fill for next year. At the end of the day, mid-majors are still mid-majors.

I don't post as much on Hoosier Nation as I used to.
I’m getting sick of the negativity about everything. I’ve got concerns but I’m going to support the coach and team. One person on there actually questioned my fandom, big mistake from a newbie.
Stevens is a good, young coach. He may have continued success at Butler, for a mid-major. However, Hayward is entering the draft as you said. He’s got a decent recruit coming in but not a highly regarded player. Of course, those recruiting rankings are crapshoots for the most part.

I would have killed for a .500 record at one point. It sucks.
I grew up on college basketball, as I’m sure you know. I’m learning to like college football slowly, but it’s nothing compared to how I feel about basketball and Yankee baseball. It HURTS when those two lose, but football is still kind of meh for me right now.

I grew up on IU.
That was pretty much it. My dad was a fan, and I watched the games with him. Just like UNC, we’re a traditional power, we (IU, UNC) compete for conference titles and Finals Fours/Championships. It’s what we’re used to.
I became a Yankees fan because I saw one WS on TV and that’s who I aligned with for whatever reason.
I can watch football. I like football, and used to play as I’m sure you know. Football can be very entertaining, but there’s a lot involved with it though.

Whenever they come, I take my brother and sisters as their birthday gifts every year for awhile now.
Closer than you, yes.
But not very close in general.
I don’t think I saw the Cardinal stadium when I was in St. Louis, but maybe I did. We went to the Arch and Six Flags, so everything that day was kind of a blur. I’ve also seen Wrigley, but didn’t actually go to a game there.

I've never been TO the arch, but I've been by there.
A lot of people in my area are Cardinals fans. Cardinals are my second favorite team. Actually, people here are split with Cards/Cubs/Reds pretty much. There’s the occassional Red Sox fan. One girl I know started liking the Sox because her fiancee does, I could’ve sworn she was smarter than that.

I hate heights, especially if something is ‘swingy’. The one time we went TO STL, we couldn’t enjoy it since it was for a funeral. Other than that I’ve been through there a few times.
Once with the girl that made me so damn bitter and jaded.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"
by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 17, 2010 3:44 AM EDT up reply actions
I mostly just hate dumb stereotypes.
Sometimes when I smile, my eyes look kind of squinty, so I’ve been asked if I’m part Chinese. Cause I look SO Chinese, you know?
Or in the summer “You’re tan, I bet you’re part Mexican” Um, no actually, but way to generalize EVERYTHING.
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 3:47 AM EDT up reply actions
To be honest, stereotypes can be
histarically accurate at times. It doesn’t make them appropriate by any means though.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 3:49 AM EDT up reply actions
Oh, I agree that's kind of silly.
I was just saying that sometimes stereotypes are hilariously accurate. Not necessarily about physical traits.

I'll have to leave a note or something.

Haha
I’ll be sure to lead the investigation.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:33 AM EDT up reply actions
No, but I think I've learned a thing or two.
I could do it sherlock holmes style.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:41 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, that does.
I have too many interests, not enough time. Not enough time to figure out what I want to do for real.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:56 AM EDT up reply actions
Oh, boys.
Get motivated!
I don’t know why I have the motivation. I just have wayyy too many things I’m interested in.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:59 AM EDT up reply actions
Law, writing, teaching...
I’ve never taken a class that I didn’t find interesting.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 5:02 AM EDT up reply actions
Thanks, this is working great to build your profile, lol
In all seriousness, thats really cool. Teaching? What?
I helped out in a headstart class last quarter
and really liked it. It would probably be young kids. But I question my patience.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 5:06 AM EDT up reply actions
Wow.
I would want to teach kindergarten/1st grade age probably.

He is quite the handful
He loves the Yankees, and even starts a Lets go Yankees chant at the Trop when we go
Also, reading.
I wish I could get paid to read.

Ohh, it's being made into a movie
with Julia Roberts. I actually really like it. This woman gets divorced, drops everything and decides to travel to Italy, India and Indonesia to try and find herself.

Yeah, I mean when I was younger If I had to go, I had to go
Thankfully thats not the case anymore, lol
My poor family :(
Never gave me the pep talk about strangers on the internet!
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:35 AM EDT up reply actions
Really?
My mom thinks that having a facebook is awful and means the whole world can see everything about me.
by CAyankeesfan on Jun 17, 2010 4:36 AM EDT up reply actions
Gotta be careful where you post your eyeball out there.
Very dangerous.
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:42 AM EDT up reply actions
To be honest, if somebody is going to comb through all these threads to piece together personal information of me, use that one picture of me that I posted to try and track me down….bring em on.
Thats what I said, WWJD and Raise know my name and see my pic
Big deal, they coming to kill me….if not I’ll invite them in to watch the Yankees
That's kind of how I feel.
If someone has that much time and they are that desperate, then whatever. I doubt it’s going to be any of you guys. And if it is, you better tell me who you are so I don’t call the police or something.
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:45 AM EDT up reply actions
Haha I could just picture that. HEY WWJD! I used scarce bits of data on the internet to stalk you, but don’t worry, I mean no harm.
LoL, you know my name, where I live, what I look like
how I sound, and my comedy! I’m pretty well ahead of everyone!

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"
by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 17, 2010 4:51 AM EDT up reply actions
Oh I bet. If you’re good at working with the hecklers off the cuff, it gives you all sorts of material. Some times comics crumble though, but you seem confident and quick enough to just go with it.
Oh yeah, hecklers can be funny sometimes.
But no reactions at all are awful!

And I think a lot depends on the mood going in of the crowd. Because the more people around you are getting into it, the more enjoyable it is.
Absolutely.
I loved when the place was packed. That way I could tell what was working and what wasn’t.

Well, true...
I think it would be hilarious to run into one of you that I know what you look like at the Stadium or something. “HEYYYY, it’s me! WWJD! You know, from PSA? No? Really?”

For real.
Random Question: Are you going to be a sophomore or a junior? Or does that violate the personal info threshold?
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:34 AM EDT up reply actions
An interesting question, I can’t really give you that straight of an answer though.
I skipped a grade in high school and started going to communiy college early, and then completed a 2 year degree there. Last year was my first year at a 4 year school, but based on some transferring issues, I need 3 more semesters to get my bachelors.
So I’m a junior I guess, but this coming year will be my 4th year of college.
Not a big deal, I was just wondering if my math was messed up.
Skipping a grade? Yeah, not surprised.
Sorry if it was a creepy question though.
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 17, 2010 4:39 AM EDT up reply actions
Pretty much the same. Commiserating with the night crew, doing our normal talk about movies, music, and anything else that comes up.
Do I remember correctly from another thread that you’re a Zeppelin fan?
definitely. I like all kinds of rock; hard, soft, classic, metal. From U2 to Petty to Zeppelin to the Beatles to Metallica….If it’s good, I can appreciate it.
Atta boy. I like every band you listed. You should talk to ImGivingYouARaise though, he is the music expert in these parts.
Heh, I do my best.
I’m about to pop on some Intergalactic before I head to bed!

FreeBradshaw always gets me wanting to listen to Petty. His constant references to taking a suicidal leap always bring “Free Fallin’” to mind.
Runnin Down A Dream is such an awesome song.

Well, it's not 5 in the morning out there like it is on this coast.
You still have a little buffer.

Afternoon games suck on the West Coast though.
I wake up in the afternoon on a Saturday, and it’s already the 7th inning……
Ha, I love when it's a 1 o'clock game!
I’m not very excited for the 7 my time game we have coming up.
