Sweep recap: Yankees 7, Orioles 5
Originally, I was going to start out by saying that was quick, easy, and relatively painless.
But then the 9th inning happened.
On offense, everybody but Robinson Cano contributed at least one hit and five different Yankees drove in a run. Both Nick Johnson and Mark Teixeira showed signs of taking a step in the right direction; Johnson wasn't retired in 5 plate apperances and drove in 2 runs, while Tex went 1-4 with a walk and two RBI.
Andy Pettitte pitched five strong innings but was pulled after only throwing 77 pitches. Then, for some reason, Girardi decided to use all of the crappy relievers on the team.
Sergio Mitre came in to shut the O's down in the 6th and 7th, but quickly gave up 2 runs in the 8th, and David Robertson all but punched his ticket back to Scranton by allowing two solo homers in the top of the 9th, raising his ERA to 14.21. Boone Logan came into the game, and could only manage to get one out scattered around two walks. Al Aceves finally shut the door with two outs and the tying run at the plate in the 9th.
So to recap the Yankees bullpen in the 8th-9th innings:
6 outs
5 pitchers
4 hits
3 homers
2 walks
1 ulcer (for me, at least).
Play of the Game: Tex's 4th inning double gave the Yankees all the lead they eventually needed.

I guess Ace is candidate number 4 on "Get a Save with the Yankees!"

Pettitte - forearm and back of elbow stiffness and pain
He’s going for an MRI.
Um, not good.
Pettitte is gonna have an MRI. Here’s hoping Andy is okay.

I'm actually surprised they don't have one.
Their medical facilities are really good.

What do you guys think we should do with Robertson?
The guy has been rocked and his confidence is way down. I know hes only pitched six innings or whatever but his ERA is now 14.21. Do you think we should send him to the minors? Please no one says he “sucks”
You can
wait with a team where the expectations are not high ( I could run down a list…),
but you can’t look at the team record and say okay we are whatever 18-8, and let him work out here…I mean Melky was sent down in August a couple years ago,
if you are not performing up to tthe team expectations, that’s where you work it out.
Robertson S...tinks right now
Sure its only been 6 innings, do we give him another 6 games in key spots or let him work it out in AAA? It all depends on what the book says.
Well, I don't think Joe has a lot of confidence in him now,
and he’s probably not going to let him “work it out” in meaningful situations. So that means garbage time – games that are one-sided wins or losses, and the Yanks don’t play too many of those. Better to let him get some regular work at Scranton.
Does anyone know what his contract status is?
How much flexibility do they have in moving him up and down?
Also, who would you bring up in his place? Melancon?
Usqueadbaugham! Anam muck an dhoul ! Did ye drink me doornail?
how in the world does loogan throw 98
seems so random…too bad he couldn’t get it over for a strike tho, then again girardi never uses the guy. Maybe we should be using him more in games with bigger leads so he can actually get some work in and have better control since his stuff looks nasty. Drob..ehhh move him back to scranton to make him learn to stop throwing his fastball over the plate. The stuff is all there but the control isn’t.
Also i hope andy is alright and is just something that is day to day. the good news is with the break and our weird rotation moving Andy get abit extra time off. really hope he gets better since he’s been great this season
Marchand
is saying it is forearm & triceps, he’s had enough elbow issues, one reason he wound
up in Houston (before you get excited, just saying they had concerns back then), so
don’t get bent out of shape…Hope like hell it is not his elbow.
We'll all just
have to wait for the MRI. No use speculating now.

Bud Selig on HGH would do wonders...
We gave NJ some $noise but Nick ‘The Walking Stick’ is in full bloom. How’s the view from suger heaven bitch? Mutant Pettite (Cajun for HGH) will be alright. Come on ANDY!!
If not, maybe Joba comes back to where he belongs. If Mariano breaks down and we win with Javy closing, I’ll run down the street naked for the WWE.
