11 Not Enough In Loss To Last Place Indians
This was a brutal game to watch. Who can remember when the Yanks had 9-3 and 10-4 leads and the game looked like a laugher? CC quickly squandered that those leads in his second straight poor outing, followed by an absolute implosion of the bullpen. D-Rob, Mitre, Marte and Joba combined to record just three outs... yet allowed seven runs between those outs: HBP, fly-out, single, walk, fly-out, single, walk, double, double, single, K. That seventh inning was the difference in the game that would have guaranteed at least a split in this four-game series.
Cleveland went a ridiculous 8-14 with RISP while the 'Bombers' went a respectable 5-13.
Robertson left after four batters with a strained back. He's day-to-day.
David Huff was hit on the head by a line drive from the bat of A-Rod. He hit the ground and didn't get up for minutes until he was finally carried off on a stretcher. A CAT Scan came back negative and he was released from the hospital. A-Rod tried to pay him a visit there but learned en route that he'd returned to the Stadium.
This is a game to just try to forget about and look ahead to tomorrow's match.
Play of the Game: Jason Donald's two out, two-run double off Joba in the seventh (-32%) that put Cleveland ahead.
Comment of the Game: Lord Duggan, for his jab at Joe West. I despise West, so any comments about him find a soft spot in my heart.

Agreed.
Our bullpen is just about the laughing stock of the league.
Its a shame, our offense is starting to heat up and our bullpen messes everything up.

2nd worst game of the year
The 5-1 loss to Boston was worse because it was versus Boston.

Joba sucks..yeah i'm pissed
i’ve been patient with Javy, NJ, etc but wow words can;t describe how much i’m fed up with Joba. one out with a 4 run lead. Not that hard. Hell a grounder. pop out, fly out, strike out anything. Nope 6 straight hits. he was bad with the twins, horrible vs the sox but wow this is a new low. It wasn’t like we wanted him to get any hard outs, he faced guys hitting under .200. just cuz they aren’t the greatest hitter doesn’t mean you should throw it down the middle.
time to send joba back to triple a to get his confidence back.maybe he will begin to pitch like we all know he can.
Great idea!
Nothing spells out C-O-N-F-I-D-E-N-C-E like sending someone who has shown he has something to offer in the majors back down to AAA!

His contribution
has been nothing but big steaming piles of poo since he last did something useful in 2007.
I would think winning and getting better form in AAA would get him much more confidence than failing constantly for 2+ years.
We don’t need a pitcher who can’t get a couple of outs, much less start a game like so many of you were keen on having him do this year (god knows why…). If he can be fixed, then send him down to AAA so we can have his 98mph Fastball back and actually have a reliever that isn’t named Rivera who doesn’t give up a run for each out he gets. If he can’t be fixed, DFA Joba. I just wish they’d do something with him soon. I don’t want him put in anymore games if he can’t get a single out.

For real tho...
Joba will be fine. Why? Well, Robertson’s quick exit but a cluster F**k into the whole pen. Mitre can in and did nothing. Marte did his job of course.
But Joba is a starter by and large (yup). He takes a long time to warm up, and most likely was getting ready for the 8th at the earliest..if he was even into the game at all (last part isn’t much of an excuse…).
When you don’t warm up properly, you don’t do well. He need work on that if he’s really gonna be a reliever.
As for those taking the easy way out and blaming Girardi…if Branyan tanks a 3R HR off Mitre…he gets blamed for that too, even tho Mitre vs. Branyan is clearly not a good idea.
I hope tomorrow’s game goes AJ 7IP, then Joba can come in for the 8th and mo em down, then MO for the 9th.
Sa da tey? OH, cole me down on the panny sty!
Those rose-colored glasses of yours have blinded you
You’ve drunk way too much of the party line Koolaid. They blow a 6 run lead because one reliever stiffens up and nobody else can warm properly. Oh well. That’s life. La de da. Tomorrow the sun will come up. AJ will pitch a perfect game. Girardi is a genius.
no I will not join your cult and drink that poison fruit punch
Sa da tey? OH, cole me down on the panny sty!
by FreeBradshaw on May 29, 2010 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions
I an not getting into the warming up...
There are those who said today Girardi should not have made 4 moves:
A)Robertson hurt
B)Marte, accept it or not, situational lefty, two batter max.
C)Oh Sergio, 4 straight balls will get you pulled, and of course
D) Joba, time to get his head out of his fat ass, but he ain’t going down
What moves were incorrect? Simply easier for a fanbase to blame a manager, period.
Stay thirsty my friends.
by Great Gatsby on May 29, 2010 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes and no
a manager gets way too much credit and blame, they really play a pretty minor role in the outcome of individual games, but here’s the beef:
Robertson got hurt, so of course he has to come out. Mitre then comes in and issues a walk, not finding the strike zone. Now we HAVE to pull him because the next batter is a lefty. Then we HAVE to pull Marte because the next batter is a righty.
Too much mixing and matching based on sides of the plate. Mitre has been solid, let him face more than one batter. Marte got an out, let him face more than one batter.
Using 3 pitchers for 3 batters in a then 4 run game is pretty nuts and will lead to implosions by tonight. But still 99.9% of the blame goes to Joba for flat out sucking.
I'm Lord Duggan and I approve this message.
agree that Marte should probably get the chance to face a RH
I really don’t know why he’s so adament about keeping him a LOOGY…I’ve NEVER thought of Marte as a LOOGY, this guy was a set-up man, a closer. He’s got great stuff if he gets his shots…but I dunno how the hell he could ever get any sort of rhythm pitching to one batter.
Mitre had to come out. There’s no way he pitches to Branyan. None.
But Joba does his job, no one cares.
Actually..CC does his job, no one cares. He’s gonna have his stinkers long the way. He’s a big man, so they’re usually big stinks

That last line
sums it up. In football, the QB and the head coach joined at the hip. In baseball, the way the game is played now, you could say the manager and his bullpen are joined at the hip.

Bandwagon guy here...
Okay I think it is officially time to start believing that Tex isn’t having a bad “start”. He’s just flat out bad. What no one wants to even consider is that a guy can lose his “game” a la Travis Hafner who – for whatever reason – never became the guy the Indians paid him to be (Recent 9 game streak not included…). I mean folks: It CAN just go away and if you look at Tex’s spray chart at MLB.com that is one PATHETIC collection of ABs…
Robertson must have hurt his back from whipping his neck around to watch hits whizzing by. He sucks and won’t be missed – in point of fact, I’m not gonna miss any of these guys. This bullpen is – as I have been saying here for a while – the ABSOLUTE WORST I have seen in recent memory. Ask Girardi what he thinks of these guys….
Joba – Oh boy. Where to start? This guy is not what we thought he was. The magic is gone. I think his game has regressed. He doesn’t have the heat he once did and he doesn’t have the smarts to adjust. Scary thought: This guy might actually be best suited to long relief or #5 starter role cuz he sure as heck ain’t a bridge to Mo… THAT guys is pure fantasy and while I don’t think sending him down is viable (Nor do I think he has the mental ability to “build on” such a demotion) I CERTAINLY think he no longer has any rightful claim to a 8th inning “premium” bullpen guy role. He needs to work out his issues while pitching in the 6/7 inning(s). Having one inning to try and capture back what this turd is losing for us just isn’t enough time.
I won't comment on your Joba paragraph, people have the right to be pissed...however.
Robertson has been very good as of late. Even today he didn’t look awful.
We scored 11 runs, and blew a 6 run lead…and you want to blame Mark Teixeira?
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
I just wonder why you come here, u dont ever say anything positive..ever
They arent going to go 162-0, Tex isnt going to bat 1.000 either, Joba and the pen had bad games, big shocker, it happens. Im sure every time Lincy has a bad start in SF, Giants fans want him traded, Im sure Mets fans all wanted Wright gone last year after his low HR output. Just sick of the awful posts, everything you write goes back to Tex. You dont like him, WE GET IT!
For a guy who isn't all that perturbed by another crappy game by this crew...
you sure seem easily annoyed.
What? We're not going 162-0? Tex isn't going to bat 1.000?!?!
FIRE GIRARDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
And please spare me the whole
I’m so cool cus I “understand” Tex isn’t goiing to hit 1.000 routine. That isn’t adding anything ot the discourse here either. Hey I know he ain’t gonna hit 1.000 – I’ll settle for .250 and something closely approximating the power that would justify keeping him in lineup where he is. I think right now he belongs in 7th or lower slot….heck if we’re talking about sending Joba down how about sending Tex DOWN in lineup?
Not one single person agrees with anything you write, and I can bet there isnt one person here that likes you at all.
If know one likes you and know one agrees with you at all
why do you bother posting comments, you are wasting your time

Not "blaming" Tex
Just simply doing a postmortem on another crap game. I just find it interesting that in time I followed commentary here, it just basically boils down to: Slow start he’ll come around….This is an every year deal with him and when it starts drifting into June(!) that is just inexcusable for a guy with is paycheck. A-Rod gets bashed in the national media for his lack of "HR production" but Tex just flies almost completely under the radar? I mean WTF?! Seriously: We are losing games here that a productive Tex could have swung back over in our direction. Correct me if I’m wrong: These games DO count…don’t they? Don’t they?!
OK, but even if Tex never gets it together for this entire season, it doesn't mean he's done
Cano hit .270 the year after hitting .342.
He’s hitting .359 now.
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
Wow totally off base
You can’t make that comparison – Cano was still growing into role as MLB player. Good gravy Tex arrived fully formed as the player he is (or we thought he was!). Come on Edg – you’re better than that!
but he can have an off-year!
that’s what I’m saying. Saying that he’s done for his career…you can’t say that yet.
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
Yes he can
great players and HOFamers have done it, he could, would not expect that.
Don’t expect his numbers to be close to last year, that ain’t happening either.

No - I can't but I'm glad you at least
will entertain notion that this is no longer a slow start and has started drifting into “off year” territory. You’ll have to excuse me but I’m an A-Rod fan and it DOES tick me off that Text gets a free pass… If A-Rod had this start he would be flat out crucified and on that point I’m sure we can agree.
Yes, it IS possible that he has just lost it this year
But I don’t think he has, I think he’ll get it together.
He hit .280ish last season, he’ll get to .265.
He hit 39 HR’s last season, he’ll get to 30.
Those aren’t Tex-like numbers, but those aren’t “he’s completely washed up” numbers either.
And I think he’ll end up exceeding those, he’s not gonna match last year, but he’ll get better.
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
Let's see
him try to adjust a bit, that’s what I am irked a al ittle bit about. When it is almost Memorial Day. Here is a novel concept, how ’bout at least one swing each game (until he hopefully warms up) trying to hit the ball the other way (specifically batting from the left side)….Baseball is a game of failure and adjustments.

hate to bring a Red Sock into this
but at the end of May last year..David Ortiz was hitting .185/.284.287. He had 1HR and 18 RBI.
He ended up with 28HR and 99RBI. Did he get his shipment? What happened? Who the hell knows, who the hell cares…
Its how you finish.
The Yanks have basically the same record as last year despite Tex’ struggles.
IF he doesn’t end up with around 30HR and 100RBI…I’ll be very surprised.

Very good point on Ortiz, you can take it even further with Mike Lowell after 2005
Lowell hit 8 HRs and hit .236, The Sox had to take on his contract to get Beckett. Lowell Only came back from that season to win the WS MVP in 07 along with having a solid career in Boston up until his hip problems. Want Yankee flavor, remember Clemens being in the “twilight” of his career in 96, or how about Boggs in 92 hitting only .259. He was finished too, right?
wait where were u for the ast few games when tex was hitting

FreeBradshaw
makes a very good point, that is about Joba not doing well when he does not warm up properly. I don’t think Girardi made a mistake bringing Joba in. At that point you go with the best reliever (excepting Rivera) who can get the strikeout. At a certain point in the game I was thinking we might not see either Joba or Mo. CC did not have a good chngeup today but he hit 96 several times. There was one at bat today where an Indians rookie fouled off pitch after pitch and then got a hit on the 10th pitch. That one AB, along with stupid 2-out walk in the 6th cost CC a chance to pitch the 7th. That may have actually cost us the game. Cleveland will never have another game like this the rest of the year. Manny Acta said that the way things had been going recently for Cleveland they needed to be almost perfect to have even a shot at winning a game. Well Cleveland had their perfect inning today, the 7th. He ought to watch it on tape and then place it in a safe so it doen’t get stolen. At various points on the way to losing who knows how many games and finishing in last place, he’ll actually have to watch it to convince himself that it really happened. I might be wrong, but I thought that last year I read where John Flaherty said that in spite of Joba’s velocity, his fastball is quite straight. Can anyone confirm this? I’m really pleased to see that Huff is fine. I just saw the replay. It was terrifying.
Joba's fastball actually wasn't straight tonight
I thought it was just all over the place. Maybe moving too much. Maybe he’s trying a new grip to get some movement? He just couldn’t command it. Any when he found the zone, they hit it.
The velocity’s there. Its not the consistent 98 with late life, but I dunno that it ever will again.
Who the hell knows what’s wrong…if anything’s wrong.

i'm concerned and angry about joba
even the best relievers will screw up once in a while, but the reason they are great is that they don’t do it consecutively. joba has consecutive poor outings…even in minn he was not sharp. i know alot of people don’t want to do anything, but i feel like something needs to be done. we can;t just keep throwing him out there and hoping for the best.
Were you concerned when Joba was pitching great?
He’s had some bad outings, who hasnt? Who is better that can replace him in the 8th? I remember Sox fans calling for Pedroia’s head the year he came up because he was only hitting .200 and Francona just kept trotting him out there and eventually he turned into an MVP. Joba just needs to keep pitching. AAA wont help, and sitting for a long period of time wont help him either.
Not to nitpick
but Pedroia turned into an “MVP” not an MVP.
I'm Lord Duggan and I approve this message.
actually i'm pretty sure most ppl here are worried about joba
good or bad, we always put emphasis on his velocity if he has found his 2007 stuff yet. So yea even if he’s good we are hoping he can be better. i say he needs to be broken down and analyzed. i mean one day he’s throwing 90 one day he’s throwing 98 and etc. 8 mph is too much variation in my opinion. plus he’s still young so there is concern. If it was vet with a track record like mo or someone, i would not be concerned at all.
gotta put some blame on Cervelli while we're at it...why not?
He decided to throw down to 2nd on a 1-0 pitch to LaPorta. Why? Divine intervention? Who knows, but it was doing too much.
The pitch was clearly a strike on replay, but the ump called it a ball cuz he didn’t see it from back there.
Joba walked him.
He had Marsen 0-2 and couldn’t finish him off, so of course, still Joba’s fault. But Cervelli wasn’t on the same page with CC when he was in there. And whether Joba was on or not, you don’t take strike away from your pitcher by throwing down to 2nd.

the ump is responsible
for making the correct strike/ball call. the catcher can’t worry that the ump might screw up the call just bc he’s trying to throw out a runner.
This is just sad.

I want one.
I think I want it for Andy more than anyone at this point, but I’d gladly accept one from anyone on our team.

Only when Greinke is on the mound
I think the entire team hates the guy. If the offense gives him a lead, the pen makes sure he doesnt win. Sometimes the pen doesnt want to fail, so the offense tanks it….I smell a conspiracy.
Seriously
5-4 KC the previous day
12-5 KC yesterday
and they can’t give Greinke ONE FREAKING RUN
Greinke: $%^& MY LIFE
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
SIGN HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to share this with you guys. From the story about Huff/ARod on Yahoo....
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that HR and RBI totals are way down this season. Are the players getting a less effective brand of steroids? Or are we seeing AFRAUD at his unenhanced worst?
Things the Yanks need to do:
1. dump Vasquez, Mitre and Chamberlain NOW. They suck and they’re dragging the team down.
2. Trade Burnett before he loses any more value. His erratic pitching scares the Hell out of me.
3. Get a faster, younger shortstop with better range and move Jeter to LF.
4. Trade AFRAUD for anyone who will take him.
5. Get Matsui and Damon back NOW!!!
6. Dump Granderson and Johnson.
7. Release Posada.
8. Don’t resign Rivera at end of season. He’s 41!!!!
9. Put Gardner in CF and LEAVE HIM THERE.
10. Fire Girardi. He’s an IDIOT and has no clue how to run a pitching staff.
11. Put CC’s fat ass on a freakin’ diet and conditioning program. He’s a disgrace to the uniform.
What a genius. Move over, Cashman.

The guy has nothing to say about Tex?!
by CAyankeesfan on May 30, 2010 12:53 AM EDT up reply actions
its a shame..
cuz while he’d probably say “DFA Tex he’s bringing the team down”…that’s probably the only thing that actually has any value.
Tex probably will come around and post a solid season, but he has stunk this year.
If this guy got his wish….We’d have Gaudin, Mitre and Kevin Russo getting lots of PT. It would be 2008 all over again.

And what is with all his AROD RAGE???
Because he doesn’t hit a home run every time he’s at bat? Um, ok. I’d call that being “enhanced”.
Dude just can’t catch a break with some people.

Can we trade
Javy, Mitre, Joba, AJ, ARod, Granderson, NJ, Jorge, and Mo as a package deal? To anyone who will take them? Those guys suck.
Also, sometimes I lose sleep at night because I have nightmares about AJs erratic pitching. I just thought you should know…

Unfortunately I don't know how to post pics on here
but I saw some facepalm pics that would’ve been funny. One was a Godzilla facepalm.

Yeah, that's it.
Thanks for the info on posting pictures as well. Although I’m not a regular poster on here, I tend to read along on the game threads and usually end up with a few laughs.
