Yankees 2, Twins 8

I know there's a strike zone over there; if only I could find it.

The Yankees won the series against the Twins- but they lost tonight.

Here's something I believe:

There's no such thing as a hitter's park; there's no such thing as a pitcher's park.

New Yankee Stadium is bandbox, a hitter's paradise.  But New Yankee Stadium is one of the hardest parks to hit a double or triple in.  And Target Field is a really hard place to hit a homer (unless you're Jason Kubel), but a hitter can get his double and triples in bunches.

Javy died the death of a thousand cuts tonight: a couple runs on sac flies, a run on a ground out, a solo homer.  Too many men on base (11) in just under 6 innings of work, he was lucky to get away with only 5 ER.

But I'll tip my cap: the Twins have a lineup designed to consume right handed pitchers, and that's what they did.

If anybody sees the Yankees' offense lying in a gutter somewhere, do us all a favor and FedEx it to the Bronx.  Hopefully it arrives before the Indians.

I'm not sure if agree with your assertion that
There’s no such thing as a hitter’s park; there’s no such thing as a pitcher’s park.

The home run is the most potent offensive play in the game (obviously) and trumps the occasional extra bases that you can get with some extra green space. Most “Target Field doubles/triples” are at the very least singles in NYS. But plenty of NYS home runs are outs. That’s a huge difference.

Also, with a huge outfield, the pitcher is a lot more confident throwing in the middle of the plate to a weaker hitter. 3-0 on Nick Punto? Put it down the middle and he still probably isn’t going to hurt you with much more than a single.

I agree

in fact, it is not always about the particular dimensions, all the California ballparks are considered “pitchers” parks, based on how the balls carry in places like Oakland (at night),
and the foul territory (ridiculous), Anaheim, Dodger Stadium and most definitely Petco.
I am not convinced yet on Target Field, the place just opened two months ago.

Stay thirsty my friends.

NOW you tell me!

If you want to win series but can’t win every game just go to a 3-man rotation.

CC
Petitte
Javy

You could even play with the rotation depending on which game you want to lose.

I know Javy got hit hard...

but 2 sac flys and a ground out? Damn..

Javy was bad, but how come CC or AJ are allowed an outing like this and its OK? Oh that’s right, he was public enemy #1 before he even got here.

Twins deserve credit too..cuz well, yea there’ a good hitting team. Seem to remember some arguing they had a better lineup then the Yankees (healthy). Maybe not true, but close. That’s a good hitting team.

I’ll take 2 starts like Javy had previously, then one stinker, the rest of the way out. The problem is the bats didn’t do anything.

The answer is obvious

CC gets away with it because we piled on his back last year and he gave us a parade.
Javy doesn’t get away with it because the FIRST time he was here he gave the Red Sox a parade.

He got an (undeserved) second chance to win our hearts and he’s still pitching in the Red Sox interest. He gets no slack from us for what he’s done so far — until he’s back in the NL where he belongs losing games to us in the WS.

The worst part of it is...

I’m not a mean person. I’d feel bad if i knew he actually came here and read this stuff.

Can’t we just trade him back to the NL so he can start pitching well again?

by rosebud on May 28, 2010 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions

well we gave CC a chance...

why not give Javy a chance?

IF memory serves, many jumped on CC’s arse declaring him a bust, a waste of money…we paid $161 million for an above average pitcher who dominates the Orioles and does nothing against the good squads?

I can’t wait till after the all-star break..cuz then the whole “its early” thing will really be a thing of the past.

He’s got 8 starts. Roughly as the 4th man in the rotation, he’ll get around 25 starts. Meaning he’s not even halfway through it.

The CC love is hindsight, cuz of what he did. He’s a great pitcher and was expected to rebound.

Vazquez is not great, but he’s not so bad that he deserves to be shipped out for any old pile of crap.

This guy is an asset in the 4th/5th spot.

At least

if you are in the army, I can understand going AWOL…With that said however, the same
does not apply to the plight of our current offensive and by the way, rather odorous O!

Stay thirsty my friends.
