he looked fine!

it should have been 1-2-3

Scutaro got out 5-3
McDonald walked, but he should have been out. 2 pitches just off the corner according to the umpk although the YES strike zone showed that it was a strike
Thames dropped a routine fly ball that would have ended the inning

Rivera was fine. The Yankees setup man, right fielder, and the home plate umpire are to blame for this ugly loss.

no, probably not. Can’t believe they lost this game. If that stupid ump could give Rivera a pitch on the corner or if Thames could do what he’s paid to do as a professional outfielder and CATCH THE FLY BALL, this would have been a sweep.

Agreed. Winn and Thames suck my ass. The Yankees are in serious trouble with these two boobs in the outfield. Given their injuries I think they may need to consider making a move for an outfielder who can hit and, ya know, catch a f-ing fly ball.

Yeah, we've got 13 frickin pitchers on the roster

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."

by jscape2000 on May 19, 2010 12:21 AM EDT reply actions

Thames and A-Rod errors aside (they won it for us last night, helped blow it for us tonight), what concerns me over the long haul of the season is the bullpen. The Joba-Mo combo failed big-time twice in a row…hopefully that’s an anomaly. But overall the bullpen just seems really, really shakey, so when Joba & Mo blow out this badly, it’s a bit unnerving.

by Yankee Frankee on May 19, 2010 12:22 AM EDT reply actions

the reason Joba and Mo failed this time

was errors. Particularly Rivera. A-Rod’s was a tough play that may have been a bad call by the ump, and Joba got pounded afterwards. There were no close calls with him. Rivera got beat because Thames dropped a completely ROUTINE fly ball, and the ump wouldn’t give him the corners (which Rivera, throwing only one pitch, needs to get). Joba I’m worried about a little. But don’t be worried about Mo. He’ll be fine.

by nyyrocks29 on May 19, 2010 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

no that made sense

a runner on 3rd with two chances to get him in. The problem was the bottom third of the lineup are guys who shouldn’t be in the lineup at all.

by nyyrocks29 on May 19, 2010 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

i don;t know why we can pinch hit with swisher

yeah he;s batting from his right side buti it doesn’t make him a worse hitter than winn batting from the left

by lololol on May 19, 2010 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

maybe Swish could've bat right handed against Papelbon

it would probably have given the Yanks a better shot than with Winn

The bunt play was the right move

Cervelli has been good but Paps is an elite closer who throws gas

by YankeesJets on May 19, 2010 12:25 AM EDT reply actions

Any other manager wouldve done the same thing

I hate Girardi, it was the right move, a sac fly ties the game, and it takes away the splitter

by YankeesJets on May 19, 2010 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions

A sac fly with...

Marcus Thames or Juan Miranda? eh…

by Andrew GM on May 19, 2010 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions

For what end? To use your depleted bullpen in the 10th?

Any play that reduces your probability of winning is NOT a good play. Somebody should send Girardi a link to Fangraphs.

by HilltopPark on May 19, 2010 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions

I know hindsight is 20/20...

And woulda shoulda couldas don’t count.

But if we let Cervelli swing, the worst that happens is he gets out, which he did anyway. With his RISP numbers, maybe he gets Robbie home. Tie game. I’d rather play extras than lose it like that.

"It ain't like he brought it from home." -Derek Jeter

by WhatwouldJeterdo on May 19, 2010 12:26 AM EDT reply actions

actually, the worst that could have happened was an infield pop

this way Robbie was on third and we had two chances to get him home. anything that didn’t stay in the infield from thames would have gotten him home. While Cervelli is incredible with RISP, joe made a good choice with Miranda being the only one in the bottom half of the lineup with a hit. Cervelli might not have actually gotten Robbie home; he could have struck out or popped out. Thames didn’t have any hits, but he can sent the ball far, which would have gotten Robbie in. Miranda was 2-5 tonight, so the odds were slightly better for him to get a hit than Thames or Cervelli.

by pastor2b on May 19, 2010 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

You need to do better...

…but then again, this is the same buy who brought us Pavano, Brown, Javy part 1, Winn, Thames…the list goes on…

by Bronx_Booyah on May 19, 2010 12:27 AM EDT reply actions

plz don;t be stupid he didn;t amke bad moves

winn is a back up..we never expect grandy to go down.
Thames is only there for his bat which is he has shown he can do it
and Javy seems to have turned a corner

by lololol on May 19, 2010 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Thames is a good hitter

he’s been solid with the bat. Girardi just uses him on defense as if he’s Curtis Granderson

by nyyrocks29 on May 19, 2010 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions

I still think that the Winn and Thames solutions, even if they were only to be bench players wasn't thought out...

…I see Cashman’s positioning choices this year are influenced by the hopes of getting Crawford next year…can we play this year before we go hunting next offseason?

by Bronx_Booyah on May 19, 2010 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions

Disappointing loss

Can we all agree that Thanes needs to make the DH spot his new home? Even before tonight, he sucked as an outfielder.

by lololol on May 19, 2010 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

The reason I disagree with the bunt is that our bottom 3rd is a blackhole where rallys go to die

Cervelli looked like our last real chance for a hit, unless the bottom 3 were to all walk with a papelbum implosion

Last season the bottom 3rd was dangerous as hell, right now it looks like 3 pitchers

thames isn;t bad with the bat

but getting that one out allowed them to simply pitch around thames to get to miranda and winn

Actually that is a good point

cervelli bunt

we all know it would be better to have an extra shot at driving him in, girardi made the move because of what was following cervelli. he was hopefull of any decent contact by what is a terrible situation. We had some lineup with JEET, DAMON .TEX, AROD,MATSUI CANO, POSADA, SWISH, GARDNER CERVELLI mixed in with Posada, Do you think Detroit and the Angels are idiots. And the capper is getting rid of Abraue. Send Granderson Winn and Thames , Johnson back to where they came. I will even take Melky back and that would be an improvment. Mabey we need some oldtime respect for what these guys did for us and were still capable of doing it again. as of now they better get a big bat in the outfield or you can kiss this year goodbye
