Game 34: Put Up or Shut Up

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers, May 13, 2010 1:05 PM EDT

The Yankees are trying to avoid losing only their second series of the year, and they have their ace on the mound.

There's a lot of talk about how much the injury bug has sapped the strength from the Yankee roster: Park, Aceves, Johnson, Posada, now Swisher is down, too.

But these are the adversities that good teams overcome.  The '09 Yankees went a month without their best slugger, lost and eventually released a two time 19 game winner, and watched their fifth starter struggle and fail.

2010 - Justin Verlander 3-2 7 7 0 0 0 0 42.0 35 22 21 3 16 42 4.50 1.21

Verlander's been as good as ever, striking out a batter per inning, and holding down baserunners.

A win today earns a series split.  That's what the Yanks have to get.

would they just release someone who is beloved by their fans? I do think he’ll be riding the pine a bit more than before and perhaps be sent down at some point if his offense doesn’t improve…

Cervelli needs to catch every game

Posada to DH. I blame the start of this on Posada he is a great hitter Cervelli is a better game caller and he is hitting like .700 with runners in scoring position. that would solve all these problems.

I think Long needs to get on the butts of Tex, A-Rod, Jeter etc. It’s as if he’s spending all his time on Gardner, Grandy, et al. These vets need some work too. As far as Jeter, he just looks bad right now.

CC’s start today notwithstanding, their pitching has been outstanding, and if they keep getting 7 innings and 2 runs or less out of everybody, they’ll be ok (obviously). But Jeter, Tex and A-Rod need to start hitting too.
