Game 31: What to expect from Sergio

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers, May 10, 2010 7:05 PM EDT

A peeved Andy Pettitte will watch his turn in the rotation go to long-man/spot starter/groundball specialist Sergio Mitre in the first of a four-game series in Detroit.

Star-divide

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2010 - Sergio Mitre 0-0 5 0 0 0 0 0 9.2 5 3 3 1 4 3 2.79 .93

Vs.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2010 - Brad Thomas 1-0 7 1 0 0 0 0 16.2 22 10 10 0 9 6 5.40 1.86

Mitre's pitch limit will be around 75. He's never started against Detroit and only two current Tigers have ever faced him...

This is Willis' second career start against the Bombers. His first came in 2006...

Spot-starter Brad Thomas will go instead of Willis, who is feeling 'under the weather'... The Aussie has faced just one current Yankee, Randy Winn...

That’ll be the play of the game according to fangraphs, swings the odds 89% in favor of the Yankees

Interesting matchups this week...

Jazy v. Porcello is intriguing, neither of them has pitched up to his ability this year. CC v. Verlander is going to be sick

by jeeptheheap on May 10, 2010 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

I kind of feel the same way

I also feel like, for all the crap he gets, he isn’t THIS bad, and he’s got to pitch better eventually.

A lot of fans went into the season hating the guy because of 04

Which I find ridiculous because without his first half in 04, who knows if Yanks even get that far.

by YankeesJets on May 10, 2010 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah...

I could understand that attitude, MAYBE if it had been all Sox since 2004, like if we had picked him up after the ’08 season. But after last year that series should be far in our rear-view mirrors

by jeeptheheap on May 10, 2010 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I was pretty disappointed they got rid of him then, actually.

I don’t know how long you wait until he turns it around, though.

I was skeptical because of his 2004

And because of his lack of success in the AL. And his start this year hasn’t helped. But even at his worst, he’s not a 9 ERA guy, so he will definitely get better.
