Yanks come back, take game (3-1) and series

It was nice to get a couple wins out of the way early this year rather than waiting until August.

Pettitte was actually... great, holding Boston to one run in six innings, and kept the Yankees right there until the offense could finally come through against Boston's bullpen.

John Lackey was slightly better, blanking the Yanks for six frames.

This game came down to a battle of the bullpens, and the good guys came out on top (again). Chan Ho threw three scoreless (heart-stopping) relief innings (he has two decisions in three games), followed by Mo for the save.

On the other side, Schoeneweis, Bard, Paps and Atchison let up three runs in four frames. (How nice is it to tage Paps with the loss?)

The big blow was Grandy's second homer of the series, launching a Papelbon fastball deep into the rightfield seats to lead off the 11th. That was the Play of the Game (shocking!), increasing the Yanks chances of winning a whopping 32%.

Comment(s) of the Game: some damn good ones, so I'm going with three tonight -

5 innings

3 ER, 0 BB, 8 K’s…What’s wrong with that? Like CC’s first start better?

i think we should add something like player of the day (around whole MLB)

i will nominate one tonight, see if it will catch on just as a fun stat.
Edgar Renteria SS, Giants – 5-5 with 2 RBI’s, run and a BB. He is hitting an amazing .727 through 3 games (8 for 11).

Feels good to come home from work and see that....

The Grand Wizard is making himself comfortable…

Feels good to know that our bullpen just had to get back in the swing of the regular season…

And it feels great to know all this was done against the peasants they call boston…

This truly makes my day…….That and this fat ass j I’m puffin….

If...

somebody would have told me Nick at Nite, Tex, and A-Rod would go 2-40 combined(Ok, they did have a few walks, and Nick got plunked in the ribs) and they would win
2 out of 3 in Boston BEFORE this series, I would have thought their head needed to be examined. I thought Beltre’s shot was gone when it left the bat…Whew!

Plunked in the ribs and didn’t go on DL?

Good Question?

As I mentioned the other day, tough scheduke this month. Only 7 home games, believe
15 on the road. BlowSox have a 10 game homestand after their road trip. Since live in Mass., here their schedule even when I don’t try to….

I feel your pain man

I lived near Providence (Bristol) for about a year, it was terrible lol.
But we have a pretty important series with the Ray’s coming up too. I mean if we win that one, it’s still only 6 games into the season but it does set the pace and let’s us play with more calm than if we were chasing the Red Sox after a sweep.

Park pitched well

3 innings of effective relief, only 36 pitches and only 1 hit. nice job

He is not great...

but he does know HOW to pitch, throws harder than I thought he would at 37?

C Ho P looked good.

Especially dominant in the 3 pitch strikeout of Ortiz.

Yankees all day.

Love the pic

Grandy rounding first while PapSmear looks at where it landed. Overall great series. Take 2 of 3 from Boston at Fenway and Big Papi gets into it with the Boston media. I love the smell of angst from Boston in the morning, it’s the smell of Victory!

+1

Can we get some more pictures of Pap with his head down? “He’s so motivated this year…he watched Game 3 100 times…” Nice to see him loose

where do get the information about which hit increases the Yankees chance of winning?
i am just really curious because you said Granderson’s HR increased the Yanks chances of winning by 32%

Where's the love

for Pettitte? All of you doubters out there afraid to give him some props? I’ve seen all these comments on this post and others and no mention of how great Pettitte pitched to keep us in the game. Yeah, Grandy’s homer was huge but Pettitte’s performance was the key to the game.
