Orioles 5, Yankees 4: Nope, that is not a mis-print

How did that happen?

How did the Orioles (4-16) find a way to defeat the defending World Champion Yankees (12-7) Tuesday night?

Pretty much I think you pin this one on David Robertson, who was brutal in relief of Phil Hughes and Boone Logan, turning a 2-1 lead into a 4- deficit. Robertson now has a 10.80 ERA, and might be pitching his way back to AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre instead of into a more prominent spot in the bullpen.

Eighth-inning errors by Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada, which gift-wrapped a Baltimore insurance run, did not help either.

Comment of the Game: Not a single remark, but rather a whole thread. The 'Johnny Damon's throwing' thread that started with 'lolol' and ended with 'jramey.' Hilarious stuff.

Play of the Game: I don't really know for sure. Maybe Posada getting thrown out at third base to end the sixth inning. You guys tell me what you think.

The yankees with the exception of hughes tried to lose the game everyway possible

lets see:
Lack of offense: Check
Horrible defensive plays: Check
horrible base running: Check
Stupid managerial decisions: Check
lack of pitching from the pen: Check
unable to score with the bases loaded: Check
Hitting the ball hard but right at people: Check
Questionable zone from the umpire: Check

Somehow the yanks still made it close tho! I except CC to shut down the O’s tomorrow.

Even Tex had a pretty clutch hit in the 9th.

It sucks to be so close and still fall to THE FREAKIN’ O’S.

i know its a long season, just hoping that pathetic excuse for a game doesn’t come back to bite us in the keester later…. to lose to one of the worst teams in baseball,
I think its also safe to say, we need a new bench, randy wynn & thames SUCK SOMETHING AWFUL…. please just release them, should have kept HINSKE…..

Funny thing is i remember some heads from here...

Clowning the sux for losing to the O’s…

But as a poster said before me….All I want are series wins…So we lost one to the O’s….that’s means we have to spank that ass the next two games…

Cause I’ll be damned if we get beat 2 out of 3 by the Orioles….

I was one of those people.

Why bag on people who lose to the O’s? Because losing to the O’s is kind of embarrassing. I kind of hope the people who screwed up tonight ARE a little embarrassed, so they bring their A-Game tomorrow.

I'm aware...

but it doesn’t make losing to them suck any less.

Tough Loss

Tough loss tonight. I’m suprised we couldn’t get going against the O’s of all people but it is what it is. CC Will be lights out tommorow, Almost no question.

by Ghost Face Killer on Apr 28, 2010 1:34 AM EDT reply actions

this game was about who wanted to

lose more. the Yanks succeeded in that area. they screwed themselves on the bases, committed stupid errors, and let Baltimore win the game with a 2-out, none on rally.

Baltimore tried their damndest too, but it wasn’t enough. better luck tomorrow!

by Travis G on Apr 28, 2010 1:49 AM EDT reply actions

Well

Robertson needs to get his act together, I recall only one good apperance this season.
As Ed mentioned he is pitching his way back to Columbus, I mean uh, Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
Just asking, why is there a hypen in the name of a town/city? Gotta love Posada’s baserunning as well. Well CC, one of the reasons they paid you the big bucks, to stop mini losing streaks.

by Great Gatsby on Apr 28, 2010 7:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Our bullpen is scaring me

They better get their acts together soon or I think Cash will be looking to move somebody.

Just to add

to the improbability factor of last night’s loss, last night the O’s got fout hits with two outs and runners in scoring position. Coming into the game they were hitting .108 with two outs and RISP. Logan had overpowered Scott on two fastballs but he throws him a slider on 3-2 in the sixth and he walks. Inexplicable. The moves in the sixth were about Hughes pitch count. Yeah, you figure that he could get one more out, but some of the the last outs he’d been getting were hard hit balls; plus if you’re gonna bring in a new pitcher ideally you bring him in with no one on base. Girardi did OK there. As far as why he did not let Logan face Wiggington, it’s cause Wiggington hits lefties VERY well and is an excellent fastball hitter. I hate to lose to teams that are awful but the Yanks played badly, so they deserved to lose.

we always have problems with baltimore......

No matter what their record is…. even tho this game was pretty much self defeating.

by Gangsta Yanksta on Apr 28, 2010 6:35 AM EDT reply actions

I'd like to see Hughes pitch to contact more

2 H is nice and dandy. But those 4 walks bit him right in the brown eye. So many walks…like usual, he’s trying to strike everyone out and get them to swing and miss.

He ain’t Halladay..but that’s why dude’s like that are so good. They don’t take it personal when someone hits the ball. Doesn’t mean he’s getting a hit either.

His stuff is more power stuff as opposed to ground ball stuff. But if Hughes is gonna consistently pitch deep into games, I’d like to see him give less of a crap about K’s…and pitch to contact.

Could result in a bad game or 2…maybe a few bandwagoners jump….but the end result is all in the best interest of the team and Phillip J Fry Hughes

Free

Believe it or not, he did make a progression last night, he didn’t have good command, and didn’t look like he would make it out of the second inning. He had to battle, that was a good learning experience for him, showed he could survive without his best stuff. He probably would have been allowed to finish the 6th, if he didn’t have to labor so much, think he had one easy inning.

by Great Gatsby on Apr 28, 2010 8:15 AM EDT up reply actions

sort of my point

He doesn’t have his best stuff, but he still barely let up any hits. Nibbling too much. Just throw the damn ball near the plate.

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 28, 2010 8:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Robertson

imploded in the sixth, two outs nobody on Logan walks a guy, and then Robertson put a little gasoline on the fire, that’s what happened…Would also help if a few guys not named Cano
and Posada start hitting. They have not exactly been an offensive juggernaut on this road trip, well win the next two, at least have a winning road trip.

EVREEBUDDY TO TEH PENZ

Except CC. He’s done well and we can fit 2 or 3 more guys out there if he stays in the dugout.

We don't play for the wild card around here kid

by Jaybat on Apr 28, 2010 8:25 AM EDT reply actions

Well at least you guys don't have to listen to the Orioles announcers

Gary Thorne and Jim Palmer are horrible. They’re in there with the White Sox announcers who sit there and say stuff like, “Oh boy, we could really use a hit here!”

Also, Thorne might want to have sex with Cano. It’s kind of disturbing.

I’ll be at the game tonight, shotgunning beers in the parking lot if anybody is making the trek to Stadium South.

It is nice to see Robby’s rising star getting noticed by other teams

Ah, cut 'em some slack, they have it tough

Haha, you an O’s fan? I can only imagine these terrible years under the reign of Angelos would breed this sort of malaise in announcers. I mean, how many good things have they had to talk about over a decade?

Along that same line, I could also imagine having a pseudo-sexual attraction to a great upcoming player…but I think I would have to promptly punch myself in the nuts repeatedly after remembering that he’s a) not on my team and b) my team is never going to see a good player like him…at least not anytime soon.
