New York Yankee notes: Questions and answers
New York Yankee Manager Joe Girardi made it official Thursday -- Curtis Granderson will play center field and Brett Gardner left field.
I am not going to analyze the move -- it is the one I have expected all Spring. I am just going to ask. Right choice or wrong choice? Vote in the poll and let us know what you think.
- Another question. Assume 12 pitchers, and assume Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, Damaso Marte, David Robertson, Alfredo Aceves and Chan Ho Park make the team. Who gets the last spot? Boone Logan? Sergio Mitre? Royce Ring?
- Both Jorge Posada and Francisco Cervelli are hurting as the regular season approaches.
- Forget the numbers. A.J. Burnett was happy with his final spring start, especially the way he was able to use his new changeup.
- This is one of those funky locker room moments between athletes. Pat Venditte Thursday had to autograph a ball -- for Curtis Granderson. And no, Grandy was not playing an April Fool's prank.
- Murray Chass, who swears his blog is not a blog, has penned his thoughts on the American League East.

Of course Granderson is the right choice in CF...
13th pitcher has to be Mitre.
We need a 4th starter. I saw Javy Vazquez yell..that’s a no no, he needs to be in the pen now. That’s where Serg fits in.
BTW…if you haven’t noticed…all this “to teh penz” stuff is taking the place of FIRE GIRARDI
Get HWSNBN...and they will come
If it lasts all season, I’ll miss the Fire Girardi…

FIRE GIRARDI!
That man has no idea what he’s doing.
Mitre is out of options. Since they already released Gaudin, it’s got to be Mitre.

I remember...
how some “experts” last year penned the Red Sox as having the better offseason by spending on cheaper parts such as Smoltz, Penny, Baldelli, and Saito. Coupled with Manny 2.0 (Bay) and a resurgent Ortiz, they were going to wrestle the division away from the Rays. LMAO!
Granted the Yanks took an obvious cheaper route this year, our offseason moves were still better than the Sox simply because of how much offense they lost. Cameron, Beltre, and Scutaro will all falter in the bright lights of the Sox-Yankees rivalry. And its relatively simple to explain the Yanks moves: NJ will get on base, Teix and Arod will get more RISP, Grandy will knock 33+ HR, and Javy will match Lackey pitch for pitch, if not better.
I’m not so ready to write off the Sox. I think Cameron and Beltre will have much better years than most people expect, and their defense is legitimately a couple wins better than Ellsbury and Lowell.

they're RH hitters.
with that big stupid walll out there..they’re production will only go up.
Then again..the Yanks added 2 LH hitters..for their glorious “Jet Stream” in RF.
Wonder who turns out better? Grandy & Johnson or Cameron & Beltre?
…either way..the Yankees have a Grand Johnson. That’s a win.
Get HWSNBN...and they will come

What do we make of this at the bottom of the poll?
Editor’s Note: Murray Chass is on vacation but his columns will resume shortly. Pinch hitting today is a 15-year-old young and perceptive fan from Brookeville, MD. The writer is best noted for his selection, at 5 years old, of the Chicago White Sox to win the 2000 American League Central title when virtually no one else gave them a chance.
The column is dated March 31. Is the column the April Fool’s joke (he references OBP and shows knowledge of Rays’ prospect Wade Davis, so I doubt Chass wrote it) or is the note an April Fool’s joke aimed at the much despised bloggers in the world?

Who is Zachary Kram?
And why do I care about his take on the AL East, other than he guessed right once ten years ago – when he was five years old?
Who is Murray Chass, and why do I care about his take on the AL East?

Zachery Kram, Murray Chass, Royce Ring
Who are these guys and which one is fifteen years old? Mitre could’ve pitched better to win the spot this spring. What more did this guy possibly need to do? The Slox better have upgraded their team from last year. They finished eight games behind us. And I do remember all the predictions last spring. Funny thing, most of them had us in third. If nothing else, this just proves predictions are BS.

Mitre....
It has to be Mitre. I know spring training stats don’t really mean a lot, but he was by far the Yankees best pitcher of the spring. He’s pitched 22 innings, and has just below a 5.00 K/BB. Don’t even know what there is to consider. Oh yeah, that and he is a quality EMERGENCY starter if needed.

Both are capable so it won’t matter much, but, for defensive consistency you gotta give that job to the dude who will play the most innings, most likely Grandy. Grandy will play everyday and be given a long leash even if he’s sub .200 vs lefties. GGBG won’t have such a long leash and as many bloggers have pointed out if he’s not cutting it at the plate he has tremendous value as a PR/defensive replacement. I’m a big GGBG fan as I firmly believe that players who do little things right (move runners, play defense, steal a bag, take a walk) will always help you win those 1 run ballgames, hope he stays in the lineup. There’s always going to be a LF stud to rent come august if the Yanks need one.
I went ballistic (for me, calm and sane by everyone else's standards) when they signed Mitre.
Based on his spring numbers, he’s the only logical choice. I still can’t believe I’m saying this. I guess last year’s performance was a “not quite recovered from surgery” product after all. If Mitre reverts to last year once the season starts, then Royce Ring would be the choice to replace him.
Centerfielder makes no difference. Either player can handle it, and neither is such an egomaniac that he would pout about playing left. I think both Gardner and Granderson are happy to be starting anywhere for the Yankees.
Incidentally, in today’s BATS blog in the NY Times, their writers all think the Red Sox have upgraded their team far more than most PA posters give them credit for.
