Only one down note today
Amidst the euphoria of a home opener, the World Series ring ceremony, Bernie Williams tossing out the first pitch and World Series MVP Hideki Matsui making a return to the Bronx the ruins of the old Stadium are the only downer.
Sliding Into Home has a terrific photo gallery showing what little is left of the old place. All I can say is I wish they had taken the Stadium down faster so that no one would have to look at the Cathedral like this when they visit the new house.
Back a little later with today's Game Thread.

My hope..
is that Matsui comes out with the rest of the Yankees to get hs ring, rather than before or after the game. I expect he will be well received as well, he deserves it!
Seeing Matsui in that Angels red hurts
more than I thought it would.
I expect a hero’s welcome from the fans today (which would be awesome), and given Godzilla’s flair for the dramatic maybe a home run off Hughes (which would be much less awesome).

Made sure
to set my DVR for this one. This is a great day!!!!
I can't wait to see Hughes start
Obviously, if he stinks it up, people here will be calling for his head and wanting Joba to take his place. But this is one of the first times that he’s not being rushed into anything, and has a full 4-pitch arsenal with an impressive change-up.
But if we beat the Angels here, it’ll send a strong message to all other teams. Just imagine, the Yankees have problems, some people aren’t hitting the way they should, and yet we’d have won 3 series in a row against strong playoff teams.

Sad to see the old Stadium go.
I had some good memories in that place, but the Yankees needed a modern new park. I would get jealous going to Camden Yards or Nationals Park. It isn’t like they are tearing down the 1923 Stadium, that place was lost in 1974.

A little trivia...
This a two part question: 1)What was the distance in the left center alley when the Yankees
came back to play in the Stadium in 1976? ( was not the 399 ft it is now)…I remember going to Shea the year before for a scheduled doubleheader against the Orioles…Yanks won both.
2) Who was the first baseman the Yanks brought in (years later), which was an underlying reason the left center alley is what it is now, of course, 399 ft.?

433 feet. I don't recall it being brought in for anybody specifically.
How many years is years later? Mattingly (1982) and Tino (1996) were both lefties.

Correct
on the 433 ft., then a few years later, brought in to 417 ft. (Winfield?) then Jack Clark and 399 ft. If people recall, Mattingly missed a season cuz of his back issues, so around 1990-91, fence was brought in to it’s current 399 ft.

By the way...
Clark was only here for two or three years, I believe Mattingly missed the ’91 season,
so when he was healthy, Clark was the DH, Winfield was gone by then.

Does anyone know if/where
I can watch the ceremony later? I have an exam this morning and won’t be able to catch any of it here on the West Coast.

I would try atdhe.net. That site may have a stream.

Seems like it has soccer, basketball, and tennis, even poker for god’s sake, but no baseball….anybody aware of any other sites like it that might carry baseball?

Try downloading Stream torrent
and then watching it on a p2p site, they’ll have it archived somewhere.
