Very well then
this is what I came up with four weeks ago:
(Team, Wins, Losses, GB)
AL East:
Yankees 100 – 62 —
Rays 96 – 66 4
Red Sox 95 – 67 5
Orioles 76 – 86 24
Blue Jays 68 – 94 32
AL Central:
Twins 88 – 74 —
Tigers 80 – 82 8
White Sox 78 – 84 10
Indians 67 – 95 21
Royals 61 – 101 27
AL West:
Angels 89 – 73 —
Rangers 86 – 76 3
Mariners 84 – 78 5
A’s 78 – 84 11
NL East:
Phillies 93 – 69 —
Braves 91 – 71 2
Marlins 86 – 76 7
Mets 77 – 85 16
Nationals 71 – 91 22
NL Central:
Cardinals 90 – 72 —
Brewers 86 – 76 4
Cubs 82 – 80 8
Reds 75 – 87 15
Astros 62 – 100 28
Pirates 59 – 103 31
NL West:
Rockies 94 – 68 —
Dodgers 88 – 74 6
D’backs 83 – 79 11
Giants 81 – 81 13
Padres 66 – 96 28
Playoffs:
ALDS: Twins vs. Yankees 3-1 NYY
Rays vs. Angels 3-0 TB
NLDS: Braves vs. Rockies 3-1 COL
Cardinals vs. Phillies 3-2 PHI
ALCS: Rays vs. Yankees 4-3 NYY
NLCS: Phillies vs. Rockies 4-2 PHI
World Series: Phillies vs. Yankees 4-2 NYY
And yes, this was an objective conclusion. Last year, I didn’t even pick the Yankees to make the playoffs.
As far as the awards go…
AL MVP: Evan Longoria
AL Cy Young: Felix
AL ROTY: Wade Davis
AL Manager of the Year: Joe Maddon
Yankee good surprise: Nick Johnson
Yankee bad surprise: Curtis Granderson
NL MVP: Albert Pujols (shocking)
NL Cy Young: Doc
NL ROTY: Jason Heyward (perhaps even more shocking than my MVP pick)
NL Manager of the Year: Bobby Cox
I'm back baby
And all is right in the world when ALL of the writers pick the Yankees to win the east.

Oh thank god
can that vendetta finally be put to rest?
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.
Yes
Yes it can. It is a brand new year and the boys have seen the righteous path. Though I still miss Matsui.

You'll get over it the first time he's out in left field for the Angels
and there’s a sharply hit ball and he ends up on the 60 day DL.
I love Matsui but I think he’s a ticking time bomb at this point. And I think you will warm to Nick Johnson once A-Rod and Tex see men on base for so many of their at bats.

Well
No. Since Matsui doesn’t play the field for the Yankees he stayed quite healthy. Nick “Too fat to be 2 hole” Johnson is much more injury prone even as a DH.

Predictions:
AL East
Yankees
Red Sox (wild card)
Rays
Orioles
Jays
The three best teams in baseball are again in this division. If they didn’t all have to play each other so much they’d all win more than 95 games. The Orioles should be better and the Jays won’t be as awful as some think but they’ll both be 25 games out of first place.
AL Central
Twins
White Sox
Indians
Tigers
Royals
The Twins lineup is actually scary. Adding Thome, Hudson, and Hardy is a significant upgrade and will more than make up for the loss of Nathan. The White Sox have the best pitching in the division but a questionable lineup and pen will limit them to about .500. The other teams are dreaming.
AL West
Mariners
Rangers
Angels
A’s
A very tough call and it could come down to the last week. Lee’s health has me nervous about the Mariners but they have made significant upgrades since last year. So have the Rangers but I just don’t think they have enough pitching unless Ryan comes out of the front office to the mound. The Angels are overdue for a bad year and the losses of Lackey and Figgins will be hard to overcome.
NL East
Phillies
Braves
Mets
Marlins
Nationals
I have missed the Phillies bandwagon the past three years and I won’t get caught off it this time. Halladay could be scary good in the lesser league. The Braves are solid and there has to be a limit to the # of injuries the Mets have but neither should be too close to the Phils
NL Central
Cardinals
Brewers
Reds
Cubs
Pirates
Astros
In looking at dozens of predictions, I don’t think I have seen anyone pick anyone but the Cardinals here. That said, if one of the big 4 (Pujols, Holliday, Carpenter, Wainwright) gets hurt, then this division is wide open between a host of mediocre teams. If the Reds can get rid of Dusty Baker then they may be the best of the rest but if he stays, the Brewers are the most likely challenger to the Cardinals.
NL West
Rockies
Diamondbacks (wild card)
Dodgers
Giants
Padres
Well everyone has to have one surprise team and the D-Backs are mine. I think the Rockies will be the best team in the league but the D-Backs will bounce back from an off year last year. The Dodgers will disappoint distracted by the McCourt divorce and the lack of a 4th or 5th starter.
A Refreshing Outlook
Here’s Mine for AL East:
1. Red Sox
2. Orioles
3. Rays
4. Blue Jays
5. Yankees
Injuries will fall upon CC and A-Rod. Jorge, Jete, Mo, and Pettite will finally all show their ages at the same time. AJ will melt down. NJ will get hurt the first game of the season. Robbie will hit .130 with runners in scoring position. Grandy will hit .089 against lefties. Swish will go out drinking with Joba and no longer be able to handle the new found fame. Girardi will be fired and replaced by Ron Washington in July. Tex will be traded for Milton Bradley.
Global domination, bizarre experiments on youth, our best player squatting in buildings drinking Bacardi, what you call the Evil Empire, I CALL HOME!!!!
PLUS...
I have a strange curse (for real) that whatever I predict… the opposite happens. So don’t take it personally, lol.
