Academy Awards Open Thread & Predictions

Might be nice to open up a thread for a non-baseball event once in a while.

I want to see your predictions for best picture, director, actor and actress.

Star-divide

Best Picture: The Hurt Locker (but I'm pulling for District 9, awesome movie).

Director: Tarantino for Basterds (a fine piece of entertainment).

Actor: The only nominated film I saw was The Hurt Locker. I'll go with Jeremy Renner.

Actress: Again, only saw Julie & Julia (thanks, honey), but there's no way Meryl Streep's winning this year. Sandra Bullock looks like the winner.

I don't get it

I’m a Tarantino nut from back to Resevor Dogs but the Bastards was almost his worst film.Death Proof takes that distinction.Bastards was slow, the usual great dialoge was weaker, there was not nearly enough of Mike Myers character, and the dude who’s name escapes me that was in the initial meeting with the theater girl, you know eating the eclair or whatever it was did not impress me 1 bit moreless be considered for awards. My guess is you guys really liked Pitt and his crew fing up the Nazis.Don’t get me wrong I did like the film but it was no Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill.It just wasn’t his usual genius.

I wish I were an Oscar Myer wiener.I farted in the bathtub and the bubbles messaged my pee pee.Somebody stole my Billy goat and now I have no one to drink with..

Avatar was good and it will win

But from what I gather, Hurt Locker should win. Didnt see the others but, it looks like everything is a lock, Bullock, Bridges and the others.

Dunno...

Cablevision is forcing ABC to sleep on the couch, I can’t see it (and refuse to watch on my computer)

Mass Effect 2?

Although I guess it doesn’t matter, they’re two of the best video games I’ve ever played.

Inglorious Basterds should mop the floor with these crappy movies

Avatar had the most predictable, sappy, and overdone storyline that was just saved by spending $500MM to make it visually appealing.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

your review is right on the money

Haven’t seen IB, but anything better win over Avatar.

by long time listener on Mar 7, 2010 9:26 PM EST up reply actions

Inglorious Basterds was one of the best movies i've seen in a while

with the only one that was close to its level being Shutter Island. That was nuts.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

haven't seen SI yet

I went to see Cop Out last weekend instead. I should have burned $12.

maybe it was cuz I saw Avatar the day it came out..before the hype preceded it…but I thought that movie was great.

I also had a few and saw it in the IMAX theater, which gave me a rubbery one throughout the film (dunno why that needs to be known…but I’m sure someone will figure it out)

I like inglorious Bastards too…but I just thought that seeing Avatar that time was incredible.

Free We Can Agree On This

I saw it in IMAX too, movie was stunning but I think it wont be the same at home. Actually kind of genius to make a movie that has to be seen in the theater.

by YankeesJets on Mar 7, 2010 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

I also saw it in IMAX

and it was great to look at. It was a visual masterpiece and an experience.

But the lines were drivel, the acting was bad, and the storyline was horrible.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

by Lord Duggan on Mar 7, 2010 10:56 PM EST up reply actions

maybe if I see it again, the lines would be that? I dunno..

But after watching it..real life was just so boring.

Tho the lines really were jibberish…they were speaking some alien slop.

plus I got a kick out of Sean Avery being the main charater.

I was waiting for him to pull Sigourney Weaver’s lab coat over her head and put her in a headlock

hurt locker, really?

a good movie no doubt, but the best of the year? idk.

by Travis G on Mar 8, 2010 12:28 AM EST up reply actions

I was so looking forward to seeing the movie but

When I went to see it, I actually felt insulted that the producers depicted military servicemen as being so retarded with their actions (i.e. not following actual real-life protocol, the lead actor running around unarmed through a town at night, insubordination, etc.). All of that ruined the film for me because it was shot so well.

by Scooby Snacks on Mar 8, 2010 12:43 AM EST up reply actions

I wasn't a fan of Hurt Locker either...

I was just pleased to see something besides almighty Avatar win. Personally I was hoping for Inglorious Basterds, but I knew it wouldn’t happen.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Mar 8, 2010 1:57 AM EST up reply actions

Im cool with hurt locker

Its the first military movie about these wars that didnt put a political spin on it and made it about the men over there. Plus the end where he goes back, much like The Wrestler, you really have to stop and think which makes it so much more than just an action/war film.

by ryanwk628 on Mar 8, 2010 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

Still haven't seen Hurt Locker.

But plan on it. Of those that I have seen, Inglourious Basterds should have won best picture, though I wouldn’t think it would.
