Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Johnson has already started

Well, we have played 2 preseason games and Johnson has already missed one of them due to gas/ bloating. He is really going to be helpful this year in keeping the medical staff on their toes. What an absolute waste of 5 million or for that matter even a spot on the roster. Who cares what he is capable of doing? He needs to man up and earn his keep for once in his life. Cut him loose now, chalk it it up as another Kei Igawa and move on. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Some people just can't learn.

Doomsdayers?

Johnson was an irrational signing due to the risk involved. Now this. I’m glad, in a way. Now maybe Montero and or Thames will get more playing time. Keep getting hurt Nick, it’ll be a blessing.

um I think Nick J and his .400 obp will be better than Thames.

If we want Montero for the future he needs to spend the whole year in AAA. Give him a chance to break cam this year. He was 1-1 today

He missed a Spring training game because of gas/bloating…according to the thread.

Gas and bloating.

Meaning he probably friggin farted in the 4th inning and could’ve played.

C’mon man…this is doomsdaying at its finest.

I read stiffness in his back.

by david d on Mar 4, 2010 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

didn't read the yahoo article..just the thread

and this

"Caught a spike," Johnson said. "I felt a little something. I could have played. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow."

makes the reaction to this a doomsday reaction.

I don't think you know what irrational means.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

by CasanovaWong on Mar 5, 2010 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

.400 OBP does no good when he can’t play, that was my whole point.

by david d on Mar 4, 2010 6:21 PM EST reply actions

May be true

but we already had Matsui, before he got injured. Johnson was signed after already having knowledge of his injury problems. He’s out again today, by the way.

by david d on Mar 5, 2010 11:42 AM EST up reply actions

matsui played over 140 productive games last year

and could have played more cept jumpin joe wanted to use dh to give other starters breaks

by utahcoyote on Mar 5, 2010 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

stats check

Matsui got in more games (because he PHed more I suppose) but came to the plate (which you know, is what DHing is about) 50 less times than Nick,

Wait a second

now, I never liked the signing either. I thought it was pretty stupid. But they signed him, and they can’t quit on the guy after 2 spring training games. It’s not a good sign for the future that he hurt himself so early. But you can’t waste 5 million so quickly.

This post is literally too stupid to insult.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

This guy may have missed the game with 'gas and bloating' but

Johnson had light stiffness in his back. He said he probably could have played if it was regular season and it was probably just caused from the winter layoff (this is not uncommon…)

let's just take this for what it is

a guy missing one ST game when he says he would’ve played if it was the regular season.

by Travis G on Mar 4, 2010 6:59 PM EST reply actions

exactly.

I guess no one cares to read that it was GAS and BLOATING.

..yea, the training staff really is gonna help him.

If he was DHing he could’ve taken a walk and then while he’s in the dugout, all he’s gotta do is fart in Gardner’s face.

Relax? I'm excited!

Hope it continues so we don’t have to go thru this the whole season…

I don't recall

seeing posts like this when Posada missed some ST time last year because of a sore shoulder.

http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/2009/02/sore_shoulder_forces_yankees_p.html

I guess some people like bitching and complaining for the sake of bitching and complaining.

^this

people would’ve been happy to see Matsui’s knee’s snap or Damon throw lolli-pops to 2nd base.

It must have been a sore back.

When did farting in the infield become a reason not to play? That’s the best single reason to be out there.

But seriously, where was the whining when Joba Chamberlain missed a turn in Meaningless Exhibition Game #1?

And

he’s out again today…

he’ll be ready for our playoff game on Saturday.

Hey Bradshaw,

do you think Johnson would be healthier if we sent him to “teh pen” as well?

:)

by Leviticus6688 on Mar 5, 2010 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yes

He could do bong hits with Hughes too

Oh dear god

That would be the greatest argument of all time.

by Lord Duggan on Mar 5, 2010 1:52 PM EST up reply actions

No bong hits

That philthy Hughes took that from me and I took it back. The double bubble perculator is back where it belongs.Besides we do not need dope there is going to be a Ho Park out there this yr.Joba and Hughes are competing for the pen not the 5th spot.Get ready for a whole lot of suck. They all want demoted to the pen, starters, bench players, position players, they all claim they can pitch all the sudden and the race is on.

I wish I were an Oscar Myer wiener.I farted in the bathtub and the bubbles messaged my pee pee.Somebody stole my Billy goat and now I have no one to drink with..

You guys think

We could petition Selig to get a keg installed.Cervelli plays all 9 positions while the rest of us eat (at the y)drink, and be merry.Don’t worry they will still take the div. and home field throughout.

NO, not a doomsday comment and YES, I read the article on what he said happened. Just some dry sarcasm on how something so minor can keep him out of the line-up and being a help when we need him! It doesn’t take much for his low threshold of pain to send him running to the bench.

by Southern Yankee boy on Mar 7, 2010 11:36 AM EST reply actions

tweaked backs can become strains which can become sprains.

Its spring training.

Johnson missing a game here and there doesn’t even deserve mention unless its going to make him miss actual playing time in the regular season.

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 7, 2010 11:38 AM EST up reply actions

"when we need him!"

And the Yankees don’t need him on March 5-6. He said himself he would play through it if it happened during the regular season. I’ll trust that he was telling the truth there.

by FloridaownsFSU on Mar 7, 2010 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

He’ll miss plenty of time during the season. You can’t honestly believe this isn’t a precursor of what’s to come. “It’s spring training”, yeah? So?

by david d on Mar 7, 2010 12:44 PM EST reply actions

Plenty of players do exactly what Johnson did.

Kinda like actual Spring Training games…you can’t honestly think it IS a precursor to the season?

this guy just can't stay healthy

I am a Mets fan, yeah the team who seems unable to find $$$ in th esame market as the Yankees, thank you Madoff.

but that said, we had a lot of guys calling for us to sign Nick Johnson over at Amazin Avenue and I for one am glad we did not. Now for the Yankees, you have a 1B and guys who can DH if Nick ends up on the DL a couple of time…we could not afford to have our hopes on him at 1B

2 HR's today

Doomsdayer’s we’ll let you back on-board with the promise to stay the course with us optimists. A fun season awaits us.

I wish we could continue to just show up and play for no reason. No umpires, no scorers. Just show up and have fun.
