Yanks at Astros: Aceves gets a shot

Freddy gets another shot to build his case to be the fifth starter after Mitre and Gaudin pitched well and poorly, respectively, last night.

Brett Myers goes for the 'Stros.

1:05 first pitch - no TV.

Well, Aceves had his shot to stay in the running for the fifth starter's spot, but he endured his worst game of the spring (4.1 ip, 5 er, 5 h, 1 bb, 2 k), raising his ERA to 3.77.

Mark Melancon allowed a run over 2/3 of an inning.

On the offensive side -

Gardner: 2-3, 3B (picked off 1B)

NJ: 0-1, 2 BB

Tex: 1-2, BB, K

Arod: 2-3, 2 2B, GIDP

Cano: 1-3, HR, 2 K

Not so good Acey

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

It sure helps when the reliever allows all 3 inherited runners to score

So much for Melancon and his ability to actually help the team.

Yeah letting inherited runners score is frowned upon

but I think that writing off Melancon would be a tad premature, no?

I'm not writing him off, but

I’m not sure there’s a role for him this year – at least until the relievers the Yanks have fade and get replaced in the second half of the season, something that seems to happen a lot lately.

with the signing of Ho

his place on the team vanished. it’ll take an injury or ineffectiveness for him to get called up (which is/are bound to happen).

I like Melancon

I was hoping he’d break camp with the team, but it’s looking like that won’t happen. I still have high hopes for him as a reliever with us, so when we bring him up, like most of you have said when there’s an injury or ineffectiveness, I’ll be glad to see him back and hopefully he can stick this time. But the competition for the 5th starters spot is getting intriguing, I just wish it was because they were pitching well. Still think Hughes will win it, and he should but we’ll see what happens.

*sigh*

i was kind of afraid of this happening as soon as Aceves faced a team better than the pirates he didnt seem as great as he had before. Maybe this is just a fluke but this outing would seem to say that he is a great set up guy but not a great starting pitcher; at least not right now.

Well

Did anybody actually think he’d keep it up? This game was a reality check, and I’m really happy it came today and not a month or two later.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

MUHHHHHHAAAAA

Oh boy I can't wait, there is going to be a Ho Park in the bullpen.I wonder if we can use the bullpen phone to order condoms with our pizza that will sit next to the keg?I already bought my spurs and chaps.Nevermind my wife found out about the bullpen, who's the Judas?

Ace in the Hole

Melancon will still be a useful addition later on after someone gets injured. Sending him down to work out his sometime control problems will be a help, not a hinderance. I like how everyone is calling the guy ‘Ho’ instead of Park. There is no guarentee with this guy, either. He could be injured, bring disease (jking), or get lit up and that would bring in Melancon. Ace might not lead the league in relief wins again, but he will be just as good. Looked like he was just going through spring kinks. Funny note- SB Nations 2010 MLB Previews: Texas Rangers. ‘Dripping’ With Promise after Ron Washingtons latest.

It's only Spring Training!!!

What have we learned? Aceves can face big league batters…and vice versa.

Joba ain’t worth sh— a day or even a week after he’s had the flu, but he seems to be able to face big league batters after that.

I didn't figure law enforcement

But you are in a perfect position to manage a Ho Park. Legalize prostitution!

I feel like Cashman Bashman's Ho Park could be a weekly feature for this site

and every week, the Yankee who has performed the best (as voted by the community), could join CB in the Ho Park.
