Spring Training: Split-squad Saturday

'Java' (new nickname for Vazquez?) takes the hill at 1:05. Jeremy Guthrie goes for Baltimore (as always, weather permitting).

TV is My9 in New York, MASN if elsewhere.

Another squad of Yankees will take on the Tigers in Lakeland. It'll be Chad Gaudin vs. Jeremy Bonderman. Frankie will be sporting his 'Gazoo helmet.'

  • Postgame(s) notes -

That's more like it. The Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin we all know showed up today. They combined to give up six runs in seven innings in the Yanks 6-2 loss.

Jeter and Tex had two hits apiece, as did The Savior in his first game back from a concussion.

In the home game, the Yanks topped the O's 5-3 behind Javy Vazquez, Al Aceves, Royce Ring and Dave Robertson.

Posada: 3-4, R, 2 RBI, K

Nick Johnson: 2-3, 2B, BB, R, 2 RBI, SB

GGBG: 1-3, BB, 2 R, K

Cano: 2-4, RBI

This is closer than a Yankee Stadium subway race!

“Hell, no” is gaining some steam!

I was visitng Halos Heaven last weekend

and they had a poll asking whether the Rangers or Mariners were the biggest threat to the Angels for the 2010 season.

At the time of the visit, the Rangers had 141 votes. The Mariners had 140.

Should be a wider margin

in the Mariners favor

Color me a bit skeptical of Seattle

in the regular season.

If they can make it October, though, they’ll be scary with Felix and Lee going four times in a five game series.

I say the Angels come in third

That’s right, 3rd

you may be right

they have no true ace anymore. However, I hope they have a good year because I want Matsui to do well. Plus, the pitching they have wouldn’t be too scary in a playoff series to be honest.

I’m thinking Mariners come in first, Angels in second, Rangers in third. I’m rooting for the Halos though in that division, because, like FloridaownsFSU said, the M’s would be scary in the playoffs.

I'm rooting for the Rangers

because I think Michael Young deserves a shot in the playoffs, and their rotation is nothing to be afraid of….I think 1. Mariners 2. Rangers 3. Angels 4. A’s

Game on the radio?

I’m trying to listen to the game on WCBS—schedule there says they’re broadcasting it—but I’m just getting NYC news and weather updates. Where do I go to find the link to listen to the game?

Posada and Johnson looked great today.

Johnson actually got a Stolen Base.

And if...

Great Gritty Brett Gardner, has this line each game he plays, Yanks would take it in a hearbeat:

GGBG: 1-3, BB, 2 R, K

Java would be great

to flow with “Hava Nagila” on the stadium organ. Java Nagila, Java…

I see Damon homered against the Yanks

man, I miss him already. The Yankees have 4 guys competing for LF (GGBG, Thames, Hoffman, Winn), and NONE of them have hit a lick this Spring Training. I mean, I know it’s spring, but you’d expect someone to be hitting above the Mendoza Line (not sure of the exact averages of any of them but I know that none of them have hit). Thats all I’m saying.

On the bright side, Johnson is impressing early. If he can end up having a career year, it could be a huge bonus. I still don’t think it’s gonna happen. He’ll be on the DL sooner or later. PROVE ME WRONG NICK!!
