Thank you – by the way – thought you would be interested in knowing that your quote from Lou Gehrig’s “luckiest man” speech – my dad happened to be on the field that day – between games of a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium – July 4th, 1939 – the Senators were lined up on the 1st base side of the field during the ceremonies- as my dad said on many occasions – many the players on both teams were crying – major league ballplayers loved and respected Lou Gehrig and had been unable to understand his sudden decline – also I was informed that my father caught the last ball ever hit by Gehrig in the major leagues – a fly ball to centerfield in Washington – the next game in Detroit – Lou took himself out of the Yankee line-up after 2,130 consecutive games.
The “Around The League 1939-46” DVD includes the Yankees taking batting practice in Washington and footage of Babe Dahlgren, who my dad mentions, took Lou Gehrig’s place in the Yankees line-up

George W. Case III - Around The League DVD
Thank you – I’m certain you will enjoy – this is a “real” piece of Yankees history – my dad took the footage when he was a player with the Senators and many of the Yankees players were personal friends of his – so this is really a “behind the scenes look” – not only the Yankees but many of the other American League teams and players as well – plus the “old” ballparks, Opening Day in Washington, spring training etc – a far different time than today!
