He signed a one-day, minor league deal so he could retire from his original team.

Nomar was definitely as likeable as a Red Sox player could get. Too bad he got screwed by the front office and fans.

He'll join ESPN.

There are plenty of Sox fans in Bristol. Nomah will fit nicely with Kruk & Co. among the nothing to say about baseball commentators.

Better to trade a guy a season too early than too late.

Nomar had exactly one good season after being traded. It was a smart move by the Sox FO.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

perhaps

but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t treated poorly.

I didn't think

he was ever all that likeable. I’ve heard he was a tremendous jerk to the media, which Sox fans somehow found endearing. Also, I really don’t like the flip-flopping that most Sox fans did regarding Nomar. Remember when he left in 04? They hated him. He was dogging it. Then, last year, they cheer him like it’s 2000?

Once...

They won a couple rings, they cheer everybody including Buckner, who by the way, had to move to Montana or someplace like that.

Nomah ...

Actually, I hate to see him go. I’m kinda’ sorry that he had so much trouble staying healthy. Good luck, Nomah …

Sox fans loved Nomar, then turned on him.

Early in his career they made a point of telling anyone who would listen how much better he was than Jeter. As time went on, he acquired a reputation as a surly bastard. (I don’t know if it was deserved, but Boston had a reputation as a 25 player- 25 separate taxicab team). By the time Jeter made the face-plant dive into the 3rd base box seats even Boston fans realized that whatever numbers Nomar put up, he wasn’t Jeter.

As per their custom, when he left, they danced on his grave. He must have been either truly miserable as an Athletic, the stories about his bastardliness untrue, or else Nomar is a very forgiving individual.

Wow remember when he was supposed to be better than Jeter.

10 years after the Great Shortstop Battle of the 1990s, Jeter is the only one still playing the position at an elite level. Of the three Jeter is the only lock Hall of Famer (A-Rod still might be punished for roids.).

maybe

but I have a feeling that if any steroid user is getting in, it’s A-Rod. Cuz he’s still putting up HOF caliber numbers even now, without them. And he’s gonna blow Bonds record apart and put it out of reach. Can’t say that steroids did all that. You need the tremendous talent he has.

Whether he gets in or not, Alex is a HOF in my book. But, by 2022 when he’s eligible and things will probably have changed, he’s probably get in. Talentwise and numberswise, he’s a first ballet HOFamer.

Same with Jeter. Sox fans told everyone Nomar was so much better than him in every way. And yet, who is more loved in their city? Jeter. Who is going to the HOF out of the two? Thats right. Jeter.

I never liked Nomar. Always was a jerk to the media, and never was a really good teammate. I remember the game where Jeter dived into the stands. Every player in that game was used except Nomar and the Sox backup catcher. And I remember the YES camera constantly showing Nomar, sitting on the dugout bench while the rest of his team was up on the rails cheering the team on. When I played in High School and college, the coach would kill us if we ever sat down in the middle of a game. Can’t imagine why it would be any different in the majors, especially in that big a game and in that big a situation.
