Fantasy league
Fantasy Baseball time is coming up, and I'd like to get a league going for PA posters. I'm thinking using the ESPN one, but if someone has a reason why another one is better, please tell me. I'll edit this post with the details of the league once it's all set up. So, who would be interested in joining the league? This sentence is to fill the minimum word requirement. Wee.

I'm definitely in
I’d rather do MLB, but I’m fine with any of the leagues. What about stats though, which ones do we use?
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

Count me in too!
I’m used to using either ESPN or Yahoo, both are pretty simple to navigate. The 5 X 5 stats used on ESPN at least are RBI, HR, SB, Avg., and Runs Scored for hitters while pitchers use Saves, Wins, ERA, Ks, and WHIP.
How do those work anyway?
I mean how do you count AVG in weekly head to heads? Is it the average, era and WHIP in that single week?

It depends...
If we are doing head to head scoring, then it’s simply whichever team you are matched up against that week, if you have better numbers than their team. In that case, it is only using that week’s stats. Teams fluctuate a lot more because of hot and cold streaks lead to very unpredictable results.
In rotisserie scoring though, it takes the aggregates of each player’s stats over the full season. Each week the teams are ranked on a descending scale in each category. That is, if it were a 12 team league, the team with the most RBI would be awarded 12 points, 2nd place would be 11 etc. This is done for all categories individually.

Yea I mean
if somebody on your team get’s injured and then goes into one game and gets 3 hits, his BA is going to be bloated. I’d rather have stats like hits, rbi’s-statsthat don’t fluctuate and that can get hurt if somebody gets injured.

I could be wrong, but
I think that things like that are avoided in that your team’s cumulative hits are divided by it’s cumulative ABs. Thus, someone who goes 1/1 doesn’t have the same value as someone who goes 4/4.
Same thing goes for pitchers’ ERA. A closer who puts up an ERA of 1.00 is not weighted nearly as heavily as a starter who puts up an ERA of 4.00. Same thing goes, it’s total IP and total earner runs given up.
The system is fluky in that someone might have Ichiro for a week and his BA could be .200, but then if they trade him he might hit .400 for an entire month. In Roto leagues, this is pretty much canceled out because the aggregate stats are taken rather than just one week’s worth.

How about we do one MLB and one ESPN?
That way we can get all people interested in? One league has a whole team’s pitching staff ( so instead of drafting Lincecum or Greinke, you’d take the Yankees or Red Sox), while ESPN is the “classic” fantasy game. We’d divide it and then start the leagues, and have 2 champions. I’ll start the MLB league if you guys want.

I’m down with Yahoo (which seemed to hold a plurality if not a majority).
I really don’t like the sound of MLB’s “draft a staff” approach.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
Yeah I feel the same way. There was a preference of ESPN/Yahoo over MLB.

Damn it
It looks like I’m the only one. Fine, I’ll go read pitcher scouting reports lol

I'm in
should be fun. Hope I draft high lol
I prefer Yahoo. I think it’s a lot easier, personally. But ESPN is fine with me if you want it. There’s a lot of people who want to do it so it might be better to set up 2 different leagues.
