Dead Team Walking

The Lee move is exactly what a desperate team does.  Grasp for anything!  As a lifelong Yankee fan I am miserable with this move.  Yes, it makes them better.  Yes, it allows them to compete in 2011.  Yes, that this all Yankee fans care about - except those that remember the 80s!  Remember those long years?  If not, they will be here soon.

Boston has had a great off season and we cannot compete against that this year.  Why are we even trying?  This is truly mortgaging the future!  I know we are not giving up youth.  I know it is not my money.  But this is WRONG!  Lee is a BAD, BAD, BAD move.  I sign that we are moving back to the 80s.

With that off my chest, now the next move is that the Yankees will trade for Greinke  Say good-bye to Joba, Jesus and two other good prospects.

So, now that I talked through this, I have to admit a rotation of CC, Lee, Greinke, Hughes, AJ makes me feel a little better :)

Here's some bad news for you

KC doesn’t want Joba. He’s been in the bigs too long. It’s tooo late to trade him as a prospect. He’s now on the list of can’t miss prospects who didn’t live up to the hopes.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

If you rememebr the 80’s you must rememebr Ed Whitson. Trading for Greinke would be a great idea.. not.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

I really love this analogy

well done

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

Agreed except

I’ve been saying for months to bid up Lee and go for Greinke with Joba and Gardner as the primary offer. I wouldn’t give up Montero, though. Romine should do the trick. I don’t like the risk Lee represents with 7 years tied to him. But I’m not Greinke’s shrink.

Can we go ahead and forfeit next season?

Are you sure you don’t want 300 million over 10 years? I mean we’re not going to compete anyway so why not?

No, we can't forfeit next season

However, we can forfeit 2013-2017!

March 31st can't come soon enough.

The 80s downturn happened because Steinbrenner kept trading away our good prospects, not because of free agent signings. Signing free agents keys you keep your prospects as opposed to making trades.

Montero will be our savior in 2011.

I know that some of big Stein's moves in the 80's were meh but..

…. other than the Buhner trade, I cant think of too many prospect trades that killed us. Sure Tewksbury had a decent career and Drabek won a Cy Young but I really doubt either of those cost the Yanks a playoff trip. McGee stands out a bit too, but and maybe I’m wrong but was there any cant miss(think Montero) type prospect that he dumped at the time that became a massive star?

Fred McGriff...

The Yankees felt he was expendable because they had Mattingly, but there is such a thing as the DH.

But was McGriff considered a top flite prospect?

Martin...another sign that Greinke is coming...

Expect Greinke to be a Yankee before Sunday. It will add pressure to Lee and will put the Yankees in a position where maybe they run up the cost on another team getting Lee since the Yankees will already have Greinke in their stable. I mean is there any other reason to get Martin except to include Jesus in a trade for Greinke?

Yes, there is. Martin formerly was one of the better young catchers in the game. He took a dump for 3 years and wasn’t even retained by his team. But he’s still got some upside.

He also shouldn't take much to sign

His last two offensive seasons have been sub-par. Worst comes to worst… Yankees drive up his price so Boston has to pay more.

March 31st can't come soon enough.
