Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

All Quiet on the Eastern Front!

Sure is weird not to hear about any rumored players coming to the Yankees. Even during the season we hear of a possible trade or a suggested trade. This too quiet.

No more rumors of the Big Z (Carlos Zambrano) coming to the Bronx Zoo? Nothing about Johan Santana coming in June or July? No Carlos Beltran in the future for the Yankees?

Nope nothing but possible reunion with Johnny Damon. Manny Ramirez coming to make the Red Sox's cringe. Those rumors have been quickly dispelled.

Wonder why no Yankee rumors out there. Is this a sign that the Yankees finally realize that loose lips sink ships. Could it possible be that the Brian Cashman has decided to audition his stud prospects in the minors? Has patience finally became a virtue of the Yankees?

Ok guys time for us to speculate: Who do you think the Yankees will sign or trade for as a starting pitcher? Who should they get to complete their bench?

Andy will eventually sign, and I think they’ll use Nova for the #5

I think they'll get Johnny

And he’ll help the bench and give them extra versatility. Other than that I can’t see the Yankees doing anything else this offseason. I don’t think he’ll make any trades.

If Andy comes back, Nova is the #5. If he doesn’t come back, then Nova is the #4 and they’ll have a battle in spring training for the #5. Either way, I really hope that Sergio Mitre is not in the rotation. I’d rather have one of the Killer Bs, Brackman or Phelps or someone like that in the rotation than Sergio Mitre.

I don’t think Damon gives them any versatility. He can only play LF and DH.

C- Montero, Martin, Posada
1B- Tex, Swisher
2B- Cano
SS- Jeter
3B- Arod, Martin
LF- Gardner, Swisher, I suppose even Granderson
CF- Granderson, Gardner
RF- Swisher

To my thinking, a backup who can hit a little for the middle infield is much more important than a backup for LF.
Will this market be tough enough that a guy with some rebound potential and offensive upside (Bobby Crosby or Christian Guzman etc) would take a bench role with the Yankees in hopes of earning playing time with a strong showing?

I think Damon just gives them more options

Putting him at DH can give Posada a day off, or Martin/Montero a day off if Jorge can catch a day. Putting him in LF can either give GGBG or Granderson a day off (GGBG would shift to center) and maybe even Swisher as well.

It’s not just the options that he gives, but the bat off the bench. Damon can still hit, and he still has decent speed. He’s also a clutch player who is NY proven and he’s a winner. Thats the main reason I want him back. Not as a starter, but if they can get him as a part time player for a low price, why not?

That doesn’t mean by the way that I wouldn’t go after another middle infielder who can hit a little bit. They have the ability to do both, and if they can I definitely would.

Nunez

Was looking at the team stats and saw that Nunez hit .280 with only 2 K’s last year. I remember watching him and the .280 average must be deceptive because he didn’t look that good. But you aren’t going to get much better than .280 with a “backup” infielder. I know Thames is off the books, but if we could find another right-handed slugger that wasn’t a complete klutz in the outfield, that’s what I think we need.

the ones that are depressing me at the moment?

Definitely not them. I’m pretty sure that Brown was 1-11 last night.

He’s not going to hit that home runs if he’s going through pregnancy pains.

good point

And we haven’t even considered that hair in a Yankee uniform. I imagine baseball uniforms could be very rough on developing breasts.

I didn't know hair was a big issue.

Because that’s Scott Boras’ #1 deal breakers is hair.

To finish my thought, he is the Randy Moss of the MLB. If the Yankees got him they have no where to put him and it would be a complete and utter waste of money.

Manny

I hate to say this but he makes a hell of a lot more sense than Damon does. He has always hit for average and has pop in that bat. (not as much as when he was doing the women steroids LOL). Should be on his best behavior since would be for one year, in hopes it might continue his career. Just have this re-occurring thought that Manny drives in the winning run to send Boston home. Would be so sweet if he did it in Pinstripes.

I could see Damon as a Thames replacement- pinch hitter, 4th outfielder.

If ManRam is signed, then the inmates have taken over the asylum. The only reason anyone ever took a chance on him was because he could mash the ball. Once he can no longer do that at a HOF rate, there is no eartly reason to take on his circus- wagon of problems, whining, brain farts, and other idiocy. Randy Moss is a Jeter- like paragon of virtue compared to ManRam.

At this point, any change to the rotation will probably come from an old- fashioned big trade. We should hope that this is the meaning of the radio blackout from Team Cash.
