Adam Dunn- 4 years and $56,000,000!

I can be baffled by the free agent market.

First a long extension to Tulo when he's signed for 3 plus an option.

Then 4 years at $19MM per year for Dunn.  He has a low BA and no D.  Showing a WAR in the neighborhood of 1.  He is in his early 30's but does not look like a guy in shape to be healthy for a long career.  When you look at all the big stick no D guys out there I see Dunn as a pretty standard, and replaceable commodity.

There is no great fan interest in the man.  I'd happily give Jeter this contract, but do not know why Dunn got it.  I'd rather have Vlad G., even at this late date in his career, and I do not think he'll get 19MM per year, even if it's only 1 or 2 yrs.

Dunn will be fien as long as he doesn't play the field

He’s a1 WAR player b/c his defense is so horrible i pretty much negates all his offensive value. if he sticks at DH he’s a 3+ war player.

also he’s really good at drawing walks and hitting for power which bodes pretty well for a DH.

He wasn’t as bad at first base, if I remember right.

Montero will be our savior in 2011.

i don’t think there is a enough sample size to say for sure. He did okay but it’s only 1 year worth of data. If a team wants to play it safe, they should left him DH.

The couple Nats games I saw,

He looked Giambi-esque. And not young Giambi, either. I’m talking, Jason sweet lord I can’t believe I quit steroids Giambi.

Consider how bad you have to be in the field to erase 3 wins of offensive value.
“Not as bad” is damned by faint praise.

This is an example of when WAR doesn't tell you the story

Dunn is an excellent hitter that will really break up all those RH hitters in Chicago. If that team has better injury luck this season, their pitching and power bats will make them the Central champs no problem.

Of course that team rarely stays healthy

Ozzie physically beats his players that aren’t carrying their own weight. Those whip wounds take time to heal.

I don’t think you are giving him enough credit.

In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.

Dunn will be a great DH

but I don’t see a DH being worth 14 million bucks when he can’t fill in part time as a fielder without making Thames look like Gardner.

The Sox site thinks it is the second coming of Christ.

I didn’t know the lord struck out so much and was inept in the field. Good hitter but Jesus Christ he is not. Sh8t that kinda sounds like Yoda.

I love a disaster you ravenous bastard. Bring back Pavanno so Girardi has someone to hold his book.

Silly do you sound. Ended the sentence with an adverb you have.

This

Right here is one of the many reason this site is amazing….

…..and has had it for many, many years. Plus he’ll only be 34 at the end of this deal.

So to OP… Guys like Dunn with remarkable consistency hitting for power and still in their mid-prime don’t grow on trees.
