I was recently looking at Yahoo's Free Agent tracker, then I looked at the Yankees' roster of Relivers. I just thought of something, Mo is going to retire eiter next season or after his new contract is up. Also Joba isn't ready to be a closer nor do i think he is able to. And Mitre is good but not closer worthy. We also just lost Kerry Wood and it looks like we won't resign him. We need to look into signing a future closer, we will regret it down the road if we do not sign or work on making Joba into a closer. Names that come to mind are Rafael Soriano, Kerry Woods, Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes. Out of the names i like Woods the most, he is calm under pressure and has played in the Bronx already. Soriano I also like but, odds are he will want close to 5-10 million a year to play. The cheapest one out of the bunch are Balfour who reminds me of Kyle Farnsworth, the down side is he only throws fastballs most of the time. Now Fuentes I believe would sign in a heartbeat if offered but, I don't believe he could handle pitching in the small Yankees Stadium. Yanks could also look into forming Joba into a closer by giving him atleast 10 save opportunities this season and have Mo and the new pitching coach work all season with him. Onto the next topic, Yankees need a Catcher. Now Jorge I love him to death but, we need to realize his knees are close to done. His bat on the other hand is still good. To me it is also to early to call up Jesus Montero,he needs to work on his catching and defensive skills. Yankees don't need a Mark Prior on their hands. It has been recently talked about the Yankees pursuing Russel Martin, lets think about this. Great defensice catcher, threw out 39% of runners last season even though he was recovering from hip surgery all that season. Can hit 10-15 homeruns and bat 260-280. Now think about this, the new Yankees Stadium is extremely small. Martin could hit 15-20 homeruns and bat 270-300. He is a good option for the Yankees. What are your opinions.
