Martin...another sign that Greinke is coming and Jesus is gone...
Expect Greinke to be a Yankee before Sunday. It will add pressure to Lee and will put the Yankees in a position where maybe they run up the cost on another team getting Lee since the Yankees will already have Greinke in their stable. I mean is there any other reason to get Martin except to include Jesus in a trade for Greinke?
So, we will probably go into work with a rotation of CC, Lee, Greinke, Hughes and AJ and all will be right with the world as Yanks vs Red Soxs.

Martin hasn't signed
Has he? This article gives the feel he has.
Also, why are Yankees fans so optimistic to see Jesus go? This move will hurt much more than trading A-Jax. I’m a guy who enjoys seeing home grown guys come up and do good, with all my favorite teams, and when a guy has this much potential at a key position, you don’t move him. I think Jesus will do better than Martin, not only in the future, but this season too.

agreed
besides losing a potential monster in the middle of the lineup for the next 10-15 years, there’s an emotional part of me that enjoys watching home-grown players turn into stars more than buying the hottest free agents in or past their primes.
exactly
homegrown guys usually always pan out to be worth their contract, free agents and trades don’t always, and tend to get bad deals and overpaid to outbid other teams. Grienke will surely command an extension that will be worth tons of money and not worth our prospects.

Stupid stupid stupid.
The best reason to get Martin is that he’s better than Francisco Cervelli. Martin had the worst year of his carer last year while coming off a hip surgery and Cervelli only out OPS’ed him by .015 not to mention Martin is very good behind the dish He threw out 39% of attempted base stealers with a bad hip while Cervelli managed a mere 14%.
THAT is why we’re going after Russell Martin.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
*Excuse me, he had a labral tear this season, he didn’t have the surgery until the offseason.

well
Martin didn’t have to catch AJ Burnett- one of the WORST pitchers at holding on baserunners in baseball.
However, Martin (should they get him) would definitely improve the defense.
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot."- Kobe Bryant
let me mention one thing
Cervelli had a poor year defensively (offensively too, but I’m going to talk about his D). he caught Burnett for 129 ip, compared to 38 for Posada and 19 for Moeller. That’s 70% of his innings. While Cervelli allowed 35 wild pitches in total (which aren’t supposed to be the catcher’s fault), he allowed only two passed balls. I found that very surprising.
Posada and Moeller combined for 10 in about the same number of ip.
Martin will just be backing up Montero, I would be really disappointed if they trade Montero and have Martin be the starting catcher.
Montero will be our savior in 2011.
The next time you’re tempted to copy and paste one of your comments into a meaningless, un-researched , minimalist, fanpost about nothing, you should probably reconsider.

Yeah
The PSA fanposts are pretty shitty nowadays. Make us look like n00bs.

An original thoughts
Since you are unhappy with the fanposts then maybe you should be creative a post some yourself. Three in over two years? Seems like you let other people throw out ideas for you to consider. Let’s see some of your own.
Do yourself a favor
Take a look at the concerns on Montero’s defense. It is as clear as day that he will have no where to go on the Yankees. DH is locked up. 1B is locked up. There are better defensive catchers in the minors if the Yankees want a young, home grown player. Classic pump and dump. So, Lord next time please use a little deductive reasoning before posting a"meaningless, un-researched , minimalist, fanpost about nothing" because let’s face it your comment did exactly that and plus you know absolutely nothing more than any other fan enjoying themselves by posting an entry to see if Yankee fans agree or disagree.
Martin is more of a back up plan it seems
you usually don’t want to go into a season with a 40 year old catcher and a 20 year old rookie….too cases of extremes don’t work well
Martin is a risk move; Montero is a risk
Montero is expected to hit at the big league level. However it is only hoped his D will be good enough. Martin is young but is coming off a drop in production and a SERIOUS hip injury. However he’s a high ceiling risk. In th NL he won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger.
Add to that the fact that the Red Sox are in real trouble at catcher and I’d like to see us sign him and ley the youngsters battle it out in Spring Training and the early season to earn playing time.

If they do not get Lee, there may be trade alternatives to Zack G.
He’s a big risk in NYC too.

I don't think signing Martin means Montero is gone...
I think it means they’re not confident in Montero’s catching ability and they want the flexibility of having him start the season at AAA if he doesn’t have a good spring. IF all goes well with Montero, Martin would become a super-sub of sorts, catching some games, coming in for defense late in games and spelling A-Rod at 3rd and Posada at 1st. I don’t think it’s a bad idea.

+0.95
Agreed with everything until “Posada at 1st.”
I’m guessing that’s a typo, because I don’t see a circumstance that we’d ever have Posada at 1B. The guy misses balls that are thrown directly at him from a stationary pitcher 90 ft away. (i.e. lots of passed balls)
Yeah, I meant to write...
Spelling A-Rod at 3rd and Teixeira at 1st. I guess I had Posada on the brain with all the talk about catchers.

Not sure about this...
Martin is a vet catcher now, so maybe it provides better insurance, but Montero is Montero.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
i think this might be what the yanks are thinking too
plus insurance in case posada goes down so we move jeus to DH and martin to start…i mean we do realize posada is 40 and very unlikely to stay healthy right?
