Yankee's Christmas Wish List

Well here we are, sitting at home during the World Series. Who do we root for? We Yankee fans tend to be polarized about our team. So we move on to the winter, looking at possible Free Agents or  Hot Stove Trades. So here goes my Yankee Christmas Wish List:

1. Who else but Cliff Lee tops the list, Yankees were willing to part with their number one prospect to get him via mid season trade.

2. Carl Crawford has long been a desired commodity of this team. Got more valuable with his ability to hit third in the line up.

3. Zack Greinke one year remove from a Cy Young season. Has the stuff to make any Yankee forget our starters at the end of the year. Seems to want to play for a winner and the Yankees are always winners.

4. Jayson Werth proven hitter with power, who has flashed a solid glove.

5. Bronson Arroyo solid starter for several years. Proved this year that with a solid team behind him, he is a great front end of the rotation pitcher.

6. Scott Downs another solid year from maybe the best left handed reliever in baseball.

7. Kerry Wood proved he still has a lot left in his tank. Best eight inning reliever since Joba Chamberlien's fall from grace a few years ago.

8. Brandon Webb solid front line starter coming off an injury prone season. A know commodity with awards to prove it.

9.Rafael Soriano would destroy the Tampa Bay Ray's bull pen.  Maybe came into his own as the best closer in baseball.  At age of 27 could be future closer when Mariano River calls it quits.

10. Lance Berkman a switch hitter who proved that he can hit and is an above average defender. Can they retain him at deal that makes sense for a few years?

The post season is always full of dreams and hope spring eternally. As I  am sure you are aware all of these candidates will not be in Pinstripes next year. They all are dependent upon signings or trades that take place.

But we can dream.........................

Yanks can only afford one free agent

Unless Mo or Jeter either take significant paycuts or one of them leaves. Or unless they’re willing to go 250+ Million per year that is.

World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.

I'd like to get Kerry Wood and Cliff Lee and that's about it.

Brandon Webb?

I doubt it, his velocity is pretty much gone. Maybe a couple million for one year would be a decent deal to try (low risk, high reward), but 99% of people think he’ll never come back to the form he was in when he won the Cy Young

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

Yeah, just read some reports on his IL start, sinker was topping out at 85 mph, which is about 3 mph slower than previously. It’s a really sad story, I hope he can get it back.

Lee,Soriano,Wood and maybe berkman.

give berkman a chance. give him 1 year to dh until montero is ready to catch everyday. he can also spell tex at 1b sometimes. btw, how old is montero? i guess he’ll be called up midseason

We don’t need a DH. Period. The beginning of the year it will be cycled with the older players, and when Jesus comes up in late May, Posada will see a lot of time there.

Wish List

I personally would like to see if we could trade granderson to a chicago team. Sign crawford, move posada to dh, sign lee and webb.

by ae2cdk on Nov 1, 2010 1:43 AM EDT reply actions

Ok, so you want to trade Granderson, who’s making about 5 mil, and give about 16 mil to Crawford? Crawford is better than Granderson, but not 11 mil better, in my opinion. Plus if we sign him, we’re not getting Lee.

Please, no Arroyo

He is ok in the NL Central. Not in the AL East.

I wish

we would have a new batch of young talents that came up from our system. just like the core 4.

by paeng on Nov 1, 2010 7:10 AM EDT reply actions

We may already have them

It’s the mere presence of the core four which may be prohibiting us from finding out about them. We all have heard about Montero. I think Posada should not catch another game for NY unless in an emergency and let Montero get the majority of the catching duties. Posada full-time DH. Nunez may develop into a fine SS, but Jeter ain’t going anywhere. And we have plenty of pitching talent. We just need management (and fans!) to let the kids have a chance.

If not Soriano, how about KRod + dumping AJ's contract

Maybe the Mets would take on Burnett’s contract for KRod, who probably won’t want to pitch for a team that took $3.1 million from him. He and Mo would be the best 8-9th inning pitching combo ever. His 2012 option for $17.5 million couldn’t vest since he can’t finish games with Rivera closing.

Plus KRod’s only 28, so if we extend him, he could be the closer of the future, too.

Realistically, if I were the Mets, I wouldn’t take on Burnett. But if they are dreading the media storm around KRod next year, and really want to get rid of him, maybe they would eat it.

by dhupads on Nov 1, 2010 12:48 PM EDT reply actions

lol We Wish but mets aren't under Minaya anymore

so no way they make that deal…plus AJ can rebound

drop werth and Crawford to the bottom of the list as they are not prioities

Cliff Lee’s a lock

by i says on Nov 1, 2010 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

A lock to be a Yankee? or a lock to be at the top of this "wish list"?

If he’s a lock to be a Bomber… please explain.

His Rangers are about to lose in the world series

He can get all the money and winning he wants in NY. Is it a lock, my no means, but second after second it is becoming increasingly likely he is a Yankee. Now, when i say lock, i mean its more likely hes a Yankee than he is a part of any other team. It was stupid of me to write lock
