Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Hall of Fame Inductees to be Announced Wednesday

The Hall of Fame announces its class of 2010 tomorrow and while there are no Yankees (one former Yankee prospect) among the likely inductees, there are plenty of players we all watched.  I think there are roughly 10 viable candidates.

Mark McGwire 583 home runs 162 OPS+ steroids

Roberto Alomar 2724 hits, 474 steals, excellent fielding second baseman

Tim Raines .385 OBP, 808 steals

Barry Larkin 2340 hits 11 time all star shortstop

Fred McGriff 493 home runs .509 SLG

Edgar Martinez .418 OBP 147 OPS+ DH

Andre Dawson 438 home runs 314 steals

Alan Trammell 2365 hits, 6 time all star at SS

Bert Blyleven 3701 K 114 ERA+

Jack Morris 254 wins Game 7

Dale Murphy 398 home runs 2 time MVP

I'm a stathead and so I tend to rely on the #s a lot.  My ballot would include Raines, Alomar, Blyleven, McGwire, and Martinez.  I would agonize about Larkin and McGriff but would want more years to think about them and see them as a notch below the other 5.

i say Alomar is the only safe bet out of all of these

but i think Martinez, Raines, and Blyleven might get in as well

I’d vote for Alomar, Martinez, Raines and Blyleven. I need more time to think about the shortstops- since we can’t take players out of the Hall, I opt for a wider net.

Hypocritical of me, no? I’d use them for the millions but I can’t bring myself to vote for McGwire.
While I suppose I’d eventually vote for McGwire, but I’m not ready to yet. Maybe I’ll never be ready, and I’ll have to trust the Veteran’s Committee to put him in. Either way, what he says and does in St Louis this year could go a long way toward forgiveness or damnation for Mac.

I appreciate your self-awareness

I think it is a tough call. My gut is that at the end of the day, it will be impossible to distinguish the users from non-users (we’ll know those who got caught but not those who got away with it). As such, I would have to vote for Mac. The appearance before Congress does stick in the craw however.

Gaylord Perry, Don Drysdale, and Don Sutton doctored baseballs.

How many times did George Brett use too much pine tar?

John McGraw used to hide baseballs in the outfield and run across the infield from first to third when the umpire wasn’t looking.

Cheating is cheating. If McGwire shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame because he cheated, then every single player who ever cheated in any way should be removed. And if McGwire shouldn’t be in because he set a bad example for kids, we should remove all the racists, bigots, tax cheats, etc.

Hahah geez

how many times can u possibly get away with literally running from 1st to 3rd. That’s some ballsy and funny shit.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

I agree with jscape except for Raines and instead put in Mcgriff,

however i wouldn’t make any of them on my first ballot because the first ballot is deserved for the elite. And while all these were great they are not elite like Ripken and Tong G,

They should all spit in Alomars face when inducted

McQuire will never have a chance

unless he goes out and talks instead of hiding, which is what he’s been doing for the last 5 years.
