Bench
Currently, reported Yankees are interested in bringing back Jerry Hairston, Jr. and / or Xavier Nady.
Personally, I would love to see both players in pinstripes. Would increase or ability to be more flexible offensively and defenselessly. We have the defensive ability on our bench now. Yet offense is a concern from our role players.
Brett Gardner will be a good option in left field, specially when he is allow to sit against tough lefties. Brett still seems to be more of a platoon option at this point in his career. His defense and speed will be a huge asset, as a starter and off the bench.
All reports seem to indicate that Xavier Nady is best option for Yankees. He provides about average offense and average defense. He is considered to be a great teammate. Still concerns over his recovery from a second Tommy John surgery still linger. Brian Cashman stated in December: " That it was Nady's price and not his health, keeping him from returning to Yankees." That price should be dropping since no one seems to have made an offer to him. Well at least in the price range of his agent Scott Boras desires. {Apparently a secret, even though several teams have been linked to Xavier Nady.} Most experts believe he will sign for $2 to $4 million with incentives (consider to be a low risk, but a high reward contract).
Nady fills most question asked about bench and left field. He could be used as a platoon and or rest option for all outfield positions, first base, DH and pinch hitting duties. His batting average and home run power speak for themselves. If Xavier is used wisely by Joe Girade, during first few weeks of the season, Girade could also take a good look at Jamie Hoffman as a platoon or bench option. Nady could even become an everyday starter for the Yankees this summer. His value is ever present in case of an injury to any of our starters. What an option if one of our outfielders, first basemen or DH, should be shelved with an injury (god forbid)?

Agree 100% ... Nady & Hairston would be excellent
$5MM total probably gets it done for both players.
$3MM over budget is peanuts on a $200MM base.
Cash & Hal make it happen before someone else does

Rocco Baldelli
if they can get him for 2-3Million, than it’s a steal. I don’t know how they sort out the roster space, but they definitely need to give him a look and have him platoon with Gardner and Hoffman.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

Rocco Baldelli?
Please take a look at his career numbers compared to Xavier Nady and Jerry Hairston, Jr.
Baldelli- 1886 AB, 59 HR, 257 RBI, 101 BB, 383 K, .279 AVE, .324 OBP, .444 SLG and a.767 OPS
Hairston, Jr.-3178 AB. 49 HR, 291 RBI, 272 BB, 423 K, .259 AVE, .328 OBP, .373 SLG and a .701 OPS
Nady- 2257AB, 87 HR, 325 RBI, 144 BB, 449 K, .280 AVE, .335 OBP, .458 SLG and a .792 OPS
Baldelli is a Red Sox cast off who has always been injury prone to various injury. Not to menton his current heath problem, with a muscle disorder. Clearly no contest here Nady has best potential for being injury free. Nady injuries have been related to his arm. So this means if nothing else Nady can be a solid DH or pinch hitter. Now Hairston, Jr. is considered a valuable option because of his ability to play multiple positions.
Forget Baldelli. Reed Johnson would be a better option than Baldelli.
Baldelli
It’s hard to form an opinion on him because the illness he has literally makes it impossible for him to play on a regular basis. He’s constantly changing the medications he takes to try and alter this, so maybe they’ll eventually find the right combination, but there’s really no way to know that. He has the highest ceiling of any of these guys if he could ever get himself on the field regularly.

Nady's contract demands still make him not a realistic option.
How come China can't vote David Lee for All-Star?
Really? Marte didn't help win the WS?
Cashman can’t predict injuries dude.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Olhendorf is OK...
vs. what Marte did? Not sure I saw that from Olhendorf, at least with the Yankees.
And usually a pitcher has one good year for the Pirates then splashes into crappiness.

ohlendorf wasnt the main piece.
it was jose tabata. i believe he’s now the 2nd highest rated prospect in the pirates organization

not saying much......
His wife stole a kid too. If Tabata was never traded from the Yanks…he’s probably kicked off the team.
And I didn’t say Olhendorf was the main piece. Him and probably Daniel McCutchen are actually doing something.

Not really
I remember everybody calling it a steal for the Yanks. Even though Nady didn´t stay healthy, we still got Marte, who was the best left-handed reliever in MLB at that time.

they got to bring back damon. They say Nady's injury is like career ending
especially because this is the second time he has gotten tommy john surgery.
where have you gone Joe dimaggio our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you?
Eric Byrnes/Gardner split for LF???
How about Eric Byrnes at a one year league minimum salary ???
Sounds like a steal to me.
We could still offer Nady one year $3MM incentivized deal

If it's mininum salary
then I say take it, but Byrnes, in all likely-hood, will not put up much better numbers than Hoffman would. He’s had some terrible slumping for a while.
