Demolition of old Stadium continues

The sad, slow destruction of the old Yankee Stadium is continuing. WCBS newsradio 880 has been posting photos of the demolition, and here is the latest gallery.

I wish they would just hurry up, knock the whole thing down and be done with it. This piece-by-piece demolition is killing me.

-- 'Kudos' to Rver Avenue Blues for the find.

Hmm

I thought they were only going to take down the upper deck and and keep the rest entact, so they could have special events, like high school playoffs etc… or concerts? I would consider Yankee Stadium a historical landmark and should be registered as such!

Old stadium

This is what it’s supposed to look like when they finish taking the old stadium down: http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_your_park/nyy_stadium/html/nyy_redevelopment.html

As far as I can tell the only piece of the old stadium that will be left up is the big bat, and there’s supposed to be some kind of plaque where home plate was.

Thank you

I had never seen that rendering. Nice, but it still makes me sad to see the Stadium go, especially so slowly and painfully.

it's just fucking wrong and seems like we are getting further and further

away from the memory of one of the truly great things in american history. As much as I hate Fenway there are alot of good as well as bad memories there and I hope it and Wrigley stand forever.I feel truly blessed to have been lucky enough to catch great teams in a historic arena that housed so many great athletes and some courageous great americans.I can’t imagine what Lou Gehrig must have went through.I lost my best friend and Grandfather a few short months before they won the series and just wish with all my heart he was here to see it,but im glad he did not have to see the old stadium like this.

Frank Sinatra gets the last word....

And there used to be a ballpark where the field was warm and green
And the people played their crazy game with a joy I’d never seen
And the air was such a wonder from the hot dogs and the beer
Yes, there used a ballpark right here

And there used to be rock candy and a great big Fourth of July
With the fireworks exploding all across the summer sky
And the people watched in wonder, how they’d laugh and how they’d cheer
And there used to be a ballpark right here

This is Wrong!!!!!

Weren’t they suppose to save parts of the stadium including all the perimeter walls so they could host events there. When did someone decide to take it all down? Yankee stadium is as much a part of history as say “The Alamo”. This is wrong.
