Missing (The 2006, 2007 and 1/2 of 2008) Chien-Ming Wang

As of today, the playoff positions continue to favor our Yankees but the division remains unclinched for now. And still it seems like there is slight panic and uneasiness in The Universe. The main topic? The starting playoff rotations. Assuming the Yankees take the number one seed,( 6 games ahead of LAA) its a Yankee Stadium II certainty the whole ride. A good thing to have (CC, A.J and Andy in Round 1)and if  you lose 1, you go back to CC.

But low and behold, the 2009 experiment known as Joba Chamberlain and the 50/50 gamble of Sergio Mitre hardly put the unrest to a standstill in a seven game series. How much do you miss a healthy Chien-Ming Wang right about now? I know I do. Yea, yea, yea he wasn't all that great in his past  playoffs starts, but he wouldn't of sucked forever. I wish he was here healthy. We'd have four legit, proven starters. And still have time to play Simon Says with Joba.

Pffft...

CMW was horrible as a playoffs starter. He got completely pwn3d by Cleveland in 2007 against CC.

True but

I’d rather spin the wheel with Wang than Sergio or Justin “the five inning guy”

1 start.

Awesome selective memory.

2006+2007 Playoff stats
13.1 ip
4 er
14 h
1 bb

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Awesome writing the wrong dates, let's try 2005+2006

exactly...

like I said, you’d have to be a _______________to not want CM Wang starting for us.

He bombs, he bombs. But a healthy CM Wang? Picture 2005, 2006, 2007 CM Wang, in this rotation right now.

Pft.

I think its kinda hard judging a guy off of four starts don't you? IDK, maybe not.

Selective memory? He won 19 games in 06 and 07. How is that selective memory? He’s only pitched what, 3 full seasons? And been here 5? You wouldn’t want him on the staff healthy right now?

Sure you would...

…but he’s not, so what’s the point?

I’d love to take Minka Kelly to bed tonight. Also, not going to happen.

We can win with what we have

How scarred is the AL East when we have CC, AJ, Wang (assuming healthy), Andy, Joba or Hughes in our starting 5 next season? I would be terrified.

by HappyLuckyGoldenDragonNumber1! on Sep 8, 2009 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

Wang won't be back until the middle of next season at the earliest

Still, to have a healthy, effective Wang in there with CC and Burnett would be a godsend that we should have had this year.

by nyyrocks29 on Sep 8, 2009 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Its kinda unreal how good this team could have been with CM Wang.

Regardless of the debate of if he was the Yanks ace when he was healthy, he was no doubt a legit MLB pitcher, capable of going deep in games each time out.

I mean CC, AJ, Pettite and CM Wang? If those 4 were healthy and we had the Joba experiment in the 5th spot….DAMN!!

Would he have mattered this season in the playoffs? Well…regardless of whether some people honestly believe one or 2 starts is a sample size….CM Wang would have been our 3rd or 4th guy this year, or we’ll settle on 4th.

Imagine a healthy Wang as the 4th starter in the playoffs vs. the Joba experiment?

You’d have to be a complete moron to not want that.

CMW is 6'7" & 1/2?????

do the GMen know this? after all, Ramses Barden hasn’t done anything yet!

As in CMW is 6 feet 7 inches.

Ramses Barden is tall.
I actually thought the same thing when I read the thread title quickly.

Hypothetically speaking, of course.

yeah but...

The other playoff teams don’t have a great 4th starter. Angels, Sox? they have the same worries. I’ll take my chances with Joba or even Gaudin at this point.

Having the old CMW this year would net us at least 5 extra wins. Imagine that! Although I’m sure Aceves wouldn’t have 10 wins with a healthy Wang. Just goes to show we pretty much won most of the games CMW would have started.

by qtopplings on Sep 8, 2009 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

yeah i miss him

if he were in CMW-like shape, he would be owning it up right now.. the yankees would be damn near unbeatable.

what a problem to have next yr?

CC,Aj,Wang,Joba,Hughes and if they resign Andy who gets left out when Wang gets back?Arguing about Joba-hughes to the pen again. What a wonderful problem considering we had hardly no pitching a yr ago at this time.Granted someone always gets hurt and they probably say bye to Petite so Phil can mature this is way better then wondering who the hell is going to fill out the rotation.Pitching = titles, in the past hitting=first round exit
