No Mo? Closer has groin injury

Mariano Rivera and the New York Yankees are trying to downplay it as no big deal. But, Rivera apparently has a groin injury, and if it is something that might linger for a while that is awful news for the Yankees playoff hopes.

Peter Abraham has the details. Here is what Rivera said about the injury.

"I feel good. I feel good. There is soreness in the groin. We’re just taking precautions but I’m OK.

"I felt it a little bit yesterday therefore I wasn’t able to pitch today. But I wasn’t going to pitch today anyway. But like I said, everything is going to be fine. Nothing to worry about."

I don't think its anything to be worried about

Mo will be Mo.

If not, then maybe Bruney could close for a while.

I hate BB, If the O's and the rest of the bottom feeder team score off this guy

What do you think playoff teams will do to him???
Have him close out games,Lord I hope not,I think it’s a good time to let Joba close and give Mo a rest.
Everytime BB comes in it’s automatic that the bases are gonna be loaded.
Girardi I know you want this guy to get his confident back but I think it’s at the point of no return.

Why would they close with Bruney, who sucks, ahead of Hughes?

Thank you

for saying that b/c “Boo-ney” has been horrible. So here is how I see it…we have Gaudin pitching tonight with No Mo and No Hughes. You know how Girardi doesn’t pitch him 2 days in a row. Romero is having a great year so tonight lets hope TB can win 2 in a row against the Sux b/c tonight we have A LOT going against us.

DL him...

NOW – retroactive to the last time he pitched (which was Tues. I believe). Hughes closes for a couple weeks, and Mo’s back in time for some tune-ups before the post season. Being up seven in the loss column gives you some flexibility like that.

by NumberSeven on Sep 3, 2009 9:33 AM EDT reply actions

Why would you DL Mo

with the rosters expanded, when you don’t need to worry about wasting roster space? I don’t trust anything Girardi says about injuries, but I do trust Mo. If he says he doesn’t think it’s serious, it probably isn’t. Just give him the time he needs, be it two days, five days, whatever.

very true...

…there’s a reason I’m a fan, not a GM or manager. But yes, give Mo all the time he needs is my point.

by NumberSeven on Sep 3, 2009 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions

DL him to remove the temptation.

Let Hughes close for a couple of weeks, and then Mo can tune up.

And hey, I know where we can find another lights out 8th inning guy.

If it was October, he'd be pitching.

The man’s word is good enough for me. He’s earned my trust, and hopefully everyone’s.

Any way you slice it

Hearing Mo and injury in the same sentence makes you a li’ uneasy. Goodness what’s up with Bruney? He has been terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible.

How is that trouble for the Yanks playoff hopes??

They are 7.5 up with about 30 to play ..unless they pull a Mets they should be a lock for the playoffs.. Rest him up .. 30 days for a groin injury should be ok to get him ready for October..

Mo

I’m saying if he isn’t 100% IN the playoffs that’s trouble. Hopefully, this is minor and not something that lingers.

by Ed Valentine on Sep 3, 2009 12:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think MO has been 100% for a little while now.

he had a shoulder problem for a litte while and Im sure this groin thing didn’t pop up out of nowhere.

MO will be MO when we need him. Set that in stone.

Come on guys

Mo has been in the game long enough to know if he needs to be set down or if he just needs a break. We all know that Mo would rather watch his team win a ring without him then sit on the bench or playing and costing them wins. He needs to sit out awhile and freshen up cause we are going to have a long post season ahead of us!

by shawn p on Sep 3, 2009 11:19 AM EDT reply actions

Maybe it's just a fatigued groin??

It’s not like we haven’t seen a Yankee pitcher with that before.

Agree

Better to call someone a sorry ass pig fornicator than a Sux fan.

Oh No Mo ...

Quick, all hands on deck!
Move Joba to the closer role right now!!

Shut Mo down for a few days

The team will need him in the playoffs. I’m perfectly OK with Hughes closing out a few ballgames. Now who pitches the 8th? Marte? Bruney? Ramirez? With the Yankees comfortably atop the AL East, I don’t think this will effect the team’s playoff status if Mo’s injury is minor.

by BigSlim on Sep 3, 2009 2:03 PM EDT reply actions

Im more concerned with the Angels and Sux

than Mo’s health…there is plenty of time to rest up.. in the meantime I would try to get Bruney right and see if there are any minor league callups like our boy Action Jackson that can make a splash in Sept..
