Game 156: On the Brink of Success
Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees, Sep 27, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Should I belabor the point?
A win today clinches the division for the first time since 2006. Sweeps the Red Sox.
Andy Pettitte could restore John Kruk's confidence in him by pitching a perfect game and hitting 3 grand slams. Nothing less will satisfy Mr. Kruk, but I'll be happy with a solid outing.
Paul Byrd has an ERA of 6 and a Whip of 1.9.
I'm going to buy a poncho to ensure that it will not rain.
See you at the Stadium.

i really think andy is going to get stronger and have a good game.
Just want our offense to tap in enough to help him…historically this season we have not been giving him the run support that could have added 4 5 more wins to andys record.

Someone should tell Morgan that the Yanks
have the most road home runs too, so it isn’t just the park.
Does Joe Morgan hate the Yankees?
I’ve never heard him so biased against them before.
what the hell, why do we have one run.
"Hey, you F*?ked up! You trusted us!"
by GTWYankee on Sep 27, 2009 3:25 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
because we only scored once
since Byrd is a late-blossoming contender for the Cy Young.
But really, I think our guys are trying to hit it out on every pitch.
i rather watch the pats game since it's close cuz giants game is a joke
Tampa is a horrible team getting destroyed…boring lol
I still have bad recollections
of Byrd pitching for the Indians in 2007(?) in the playoffs and beating the Yankees. Around that same time it came to light he was buying HGH… a LOT of the stuff… from some sleazy pharmacy in Florida, if memory serves. He never really seemed adequately punished for that transgression, seemed a druggie pitcher caught DURING the playoffs, at the very least, ought not to be allowed to pitch in those playoffs. Anyway, those things combine to give me a significant dislike of the guy. Maybe it’s not completely rational, but I really can’t stand the idea of a willful cheater almost flaunting the cheating and going on to beat my favorite team.
i knew andy would get stronger...
This offense needs to wake up while that arm is still live…..

Nice K
The ump looks like he’s kung fu fighting with every strikeout
nail biting time
Hmm. Bruney pitching in a 1 run ballgame does not inspire much confidence, does it? Maybe he’ll show how good he really is because it doesn’t look like Girardi is not going to use him in the playoffs.
Looks like it might be working
Good to see a 1-2-3 inning from Bruney for a change. Especially against the Sox. That’s the only thing that slightly worried me, if almost anyone in the Sox lineup got a hold of a pitch, it could tie the game.
But I thought he was old and overrated and washed up
Vikings are a scary team with him.
No, just following on Gamecast
But Favre looks like a different player. A game manager instead of a gun slinger. He may never fully retire.
the Lions finally won..
The Redskins are not looking good this year

by GTWYankee on Sep 27, 2009 4:24 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
If the Lions beat anybody, I'm pumped it was the Skins.
THEY SUCK.
And the Giants didn’t even give up 100 yards total offense while tossing a 24-0 shutout.
I hate Joe Morgan.
Am I a bit late in saying that?
Only if it's after 1985.
Which is when he started being a broadcaster.
It's ok
It’s never too late to share that sentiment.
I hate him and Jon Miller so much, I can’t play MLB 2k7 with the sound on, or I wind up wanting to puncture my own eardrums.
i never thought of it that way

ESPN and Fox
I watch with no sound. Local stations are usually ok, except some broadcasters (Angels and Red Sox) can be a bit too smarmy.
I can’t even listen or watch any ESPN any more except Mike and Mike in the morning.
love mike and mike in the morn
Too many damn commercials though…and not enough talk f the yankees either…
by NYYWinsRings26 on Sep 27, 2009 4:37 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
They're gonna wait
and let Bruney put one or two on base before bringing in Hughes. It adds to the suspense and makes it feel like a playoff game. Or something. I dunno what Girardi is thinking.
Gardner
I know they’re resting Damon, but I think we’re seeing why Gardner will be better coming off the bench in the playoffs rather than starting. I know he has a nice BA, but Damon inspires confidence when he’s batting.
I think multiple innings of Bruney is just tempting fate
but I think this is the final round of tryouts for the playoffs, so maybe the new uniform number is the turning point for him.
wtf....how many pitches did hughes go yesterday....
Why is bruney out there

How horrible has Joe Morgan been so far/how did Pettitte do?
"When you go to other parks, they hang banners for the wild-card or Eastern Division or Western Division champions. Around here, they don't hang anything unless its for being world champions."
-Chili Davis
Morgan has been heinous. Pettite, pretty good.
The highlight was Swisher getting called out for leaving too soon on a tag-up, and Morgan insisting the ump made the right call, and even after many multiple replays showed Swish’s foot was still on the bag, that it was “inconclusive”.
Pettitte gave up two runs early, but had a nice long streak of 10 or so batters retired in a row. One run came in after a bases loaded no out jam was dealt with via a DP and a K.

For some teams winning the division is like being on top of the world. For us it’s a step on the way. There a much bigger things to accomplish here.
the kids will celebrate
the classy vets will take a sip and refocus.
