Yankees 3, Red Sox 0: So Good, So Good

There's a little party going on at la casa de jscape, so let's bring this virtual.  Grill a burger, grab a beer, and celebrate having the best lefty in the major leagues in pinstripes.

Celebrate an offense that won't be held down by anyone.

Celebrate a season on the brink of success.  The magic number is one.

awesome game

CC was amazing, our offense looked better than the score suggested, and Wagner looks like a left handed Gagne

Great Game! I feel a little bad though.........

I fell asleep while watching the game and missed Cano’s home run. But I did see everything else. Magic No. is 1 I’ve got a good feeling about this year. ;)

Hmmm

Weren’t they gonna fire Girardi and make Cervelli the full time catcher today? I guess Cashman doesn’t listen to the fans…

We were watching the game

with the mute on so the rest of my inlaws—all Mets fans—could have conversation. My father-in-law who’s a big time Met fan, is almost 85 yo, and is the person Jeff Dunham modeled his crumudegonly puppet Wlater after; says in the 8th when Wagner is pitching, " What happened to that kid closer the Red Sox had Pimplebon?" His grandson and I nearly busted a gut laughing. I had to say, “Pop, his name is Papsmear.” Which got the women in the room laughing. On a serious note, I would just love for the Yanks to win tomorrow so they can celebrate on the field with the Red Sox as the opposing team!

That is funny!

Winning tomorrow would also even the season series and, although I’m not certain, prevent Boston from celebrating in NY.
A dash of motivation in an otherwise meaningless game.

me too

especially since I’ll be at the game

Great game

One of my favorite moments was Brett Gardiner not getting caught in the rundown. I can’t remember the last time I saw the runner be safe in a run down.

It will be great if we get the division tomorrow. I haven’t felt as good about the team headed into the playoffs in years.

it feels great!

and Boston was lucky it was so close.

by Travis G on Sep 26, 2009 9:58 PM EDT reply actions

The Yanks really relied on CC

I don’t remember a game with so many runners on 3rd w/less than 2 outs that didn’t score.

Great game today!

CC was lights out! I’m upset that I couldn’t go the last couple of games. I’ve been sick and it’s sucked.

I don’t care how sick I am tomorrow though. I’m going to the game. I want to see them clinch. Anyone else going tomorrow?

Not only can we clich the East

We can win our 100th game AND tie the season series againt the Sox at 9-9. Whodathunk after going 0-8 against them that by the last week of the season we would could be in a position to tie the season series AND be up 7.5 games?

It’s too bad CC’s gonna lose the cy young to Greinke cuz he’s been a beast this season.

by Nine Inch Nails on Sep 27, 2009 12:07 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

grienke era is just too impressive....

Cc is a great pitcher and I loved the guy since cleveland….but that consistant arm of grienke would have had him easily over 25 wins on our staff. Still…rather have a second half pitcher like cc that gets stronger going into oct. I would love too see how many rings his arm would help produce.

by NYYWinsRings26 on Sep 27, 2009 3:25 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

I think CC has more than an outside shot of winning the Cy Young

Not taking ANYTHING away from Greinke he is awesome. But posting 20 wins and a slightly above 3.0 ERA while pitching in the AL East is quite an impressive feat. Especially since this writers love to call Yankees Stadium a bandbox.

by HappyLuckyGoldenDragonNumber1! on Sep 27, 2009 3:45 AM EDT reply actions

You forget

Yankee stadium is a bandbox according to writers, but that only takes away the accomplishments of our hitters, it does NOTHING to add to the accomplishments of our pitchers.

Fair, isn’t it?

by Lord Duggan on Sep 27, 2009 4:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Now wait a minute...

Am I to believe that Fenway Park, with that big green wall at maybe 50 feet from home plate, is not a bandbox? …and if it IS a bandbox, why doesn’t that take away from the accomplishments of the Red Sox hitters?

by pinstriper on Sep 27, 2009 8:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Sorry but watching sports shows and reading articles there

seems to be a consensus that Grienke wins the CY. I see a lot of people saying “you could argue that CC. blah blah blah,” but I don’t see anyone actually making the argument. Unless there is a secret cabal of sportswriters poised to vote for CC en masse after declaring that Grienke is the best pitcher in baseball this year, then Grienke gets the Ciy.

by garp on Sep 27, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions

A case could absolutely be made

If Greinke loses his next two (both against a Twins team trying to knock off the Tigers) and CC wins his next one it will be VERY tough for a sports writer to vote for Greinke with a 15-9 or 15-10 record as opposed to a 20-7 record. Zacks WHiP is 1.059 CC’s is 1.104. CC is does not have the ERA… well since when was that the only major determining factor? If it was I would say our boy Mo should get it.

by HappyLuckyGoldenDragonNumber1! on Sep 27, 2009 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not saying that a case can't be made, just that I hear

no one in the media making it. Obviously if Greinke tanks his last two starts and CC continues lights out that changes things but what are the odds of that? Everyone knows that Greinke is on a piss poor team so if he loses 1-0 or gets a no decision after pitching 8 scoreless innings, they will not hold it against him.

Got to watch a lot of the game!

Had some friends in from Miami who wanted to see the Gators and Jesus Tebow beat up on another high school team.

You never want to say anything good about the Red Sux, but you have to hand it to Victor Martinez on that play at home with the bases loaded, Oh Captain My Captain on 3rd, and ARod wiffs that pitch 10 feet down the line. Martinez’ grabbing the ball and tagging the plate just prior to Jete was truly a great play by a catcher.
