Another pitching matchup where the Yankees seem to have an advantage. Chad Gaudin has been rather good as a member of the Bombers (3.68 ERA in 29.1 innings), while Ervin Santana is having a surprisingly poor season (5.43 ERA in 122.2 ip) after a great 2008.
The Yanks have lost six of their last 10, and three of their last four. It's not comforting to count on a journeyman spot-starter to get the Yanks out of their funk, especially against their toughest opponent. Gaudin has never started against Anaheim, but has faced them in relief numerous times. Santana's last start against the Yanks was about one year ago, when he surrendered six runs in 6.1 innings.
We could see a lot of Alfredo Aceves tonight, but he is fortunately well-rested.
