The Magic Number (s) *update*
The Magic Number to clinch the American League East over the Red Sox is 9, the Yankees haven't been able make much headway there over the weekend. The Magic Number to clinch the best record in the AL is 8 over the Angels and 9 over the Red Sox. The Yankees play both teams this week, so hopefully they can make some headway there. For those who only care about to postseason, the Magic Number to simply clinch a playoff bearth is now only 1 over Texas. The next time the Yanks win or the Rangers lose, the Yankees are officially in the playoffs, but wouldn't it be so much nicer to have homefield advantage all the way through?

i really hate when
the yankees celebrate for making the playoffs, the only time champaign should be sprayed is after winning the ALCS and the WS

Why?
I agree that the biggest goal is the championship, but making the playoffs is a HUGE step in that direction, as is every series win. Either celebrate after every one of the steps, or celebrate after winning it all. I like the way they do it.

I totally agree. I don’t think they should celebrate the wild card this year because they have such a big lead for the division. But I’ll celebrate the division and every round of the playoffs.

I agree
but it’s going to be tough for them not to celebrate knowing that they’ve clinched the postseason. It’s going to feel like it’s a delayed celebration. Still, I would want to see it personally in the Bronx. So I wouldn’t mind if they did it after winning the East. Wouldn’t it be great if they clinched the East against the Red Sox?

I would love to see that
But…If my math is right, the Yanks would need to sweep the Angels, the Sox would have to drop at least one to the Royals, and the Yankees would then have to sweep the Red Sox for that to happen.

I'm wrong
They just need to sweep the Angels and Red Sox.
