Boxing at Yankee Stadium?
We already know there will be college football games at the new Yankee Stadium. Could there be boxing, too?
"We have a history of bringing big fights to the Yankee Stadium," said promoter Bob Arum, who put on Muhammad Ali’s bout against Ken Norton on Sept. 28, 1976, a fight remembered more for the chaos caused by a police strike than anything else.
"It’s something we’d like to do again."
Arum had approached the Yankees several times over the past 30 years about staging another event at the stadium, but George Steinbrenner and club brass were tepid about erecting a ring and seating on the immaculate infield grass.
With the new leadership of Hal and Hank Steinbrenner, and better means of protecting the field, Arum is hopeful that a fight will come off at the ballpark next year.
"I think one of the reasons we had the press conference here is a precursor for a big, big event," Arum told The Associated Press. "Certainly a big fight is going to happen next year, and it’s going to happen at Yankee Stadium."
What do you guys think of all of these other non-baseball 'events' possibly being held at the Stadium? The nostalgia might be nice, but I'm not sure I really want all these other things going on there.

As long as the events that take place there are classic. Legendary events then I’m happy with it. Yankee stadium needs to what msg once was…the breeding ground for championshups and legends…the holding grounds for legends…if your gonna have a boxing match in there it has to be mayweather vs. Pacquiao or nothing at all, lol…every event except for kids and special events needs to be strictly thought about because I believe yankee stadium should only be for icons…I just don’t want everybody wanting to have a sporting even there just because….that’s part of the reason why msg lost its luster….no chamionships from st johns nor the knicks…and they let everybody and there momma perform there now…I just would like it to a privlage and not thought of as a right to perform or play in yankee stadium….and the first truly historic moment would be jeter breaking lous record in the house baby!!!

I am OK with fights, concerts, Papal Visits etc
Things where they can do a reasonable job of protecting the place, especially the field. In the old days football messed up the field, cause brown areas or bad bounces and if that was happening I’d be against having the things. I wold be against holding events which make them want to move the walls.
If I's known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself. Casey
Walls
That’s why I think the whole football thing will be really interesting. From the diagrams I have seen a football field does not fit without some stadium modifications. I would hate to see that happen.
All About the Benjamins
So long as the money from these events goes back into the team/ Stadium, then cool.
First modification: swap the obstructed view seats with the bullpens.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
Hell yes.
Though I’d rather not have the Devils or Islanders, nor do I think the league would make it a strictly local affair.
They’d probably make it an Original Six matchup with the Rangers and another team.

Now with the state of boxing in general I can only imagine
one fight even being worthy enough——-using that very loosely, Mayweather v Pacquiao?
The heavyweight division is dead pretty much, so what other direction could you go?
Anyone?…………. Anyone?………….. Bueller?….. Bueller?…….. Fry?

the boxing game is surviving purely on featherweight and welterwight bouts
The only match worthy by next yr could be mayweather and pac…and that’s talking generously since mayweather is actin a little shook of pac right now….that might not even happen so….who else is there?…..nobody

the old yankee stadium was something of such magnitude and legend because of all of the history and memories. we’ve always been lucky enough to have the best home field advantage in all of sports simply by the intimidation of walking into the stadium. If we want to keep that pride for the stadium, we have to start building some new memories here. For example, as a Queens resident, when I think of Shea Stadium, I think 50% about the Mets and 50% about the Beatles. I saw bring on the new stories and new championships
