Poll: Derek Jeter vs. Mariano Rivera

I was just watching SportsCenter and they showed the results of their poll which asked who has been more valuable to the Yankees in the past 15 years - Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera? The results were 65% to 35% in favor of Derek Jeter. This got me wondering what the results would be from a purely Yankee fan perspective (assuming the vast majority or all of those reading this are Yankee fans). So without further ado, let's see what you think!

Poll
Who has been the most valuable Yankees player over the last 15 years?
Derek Jeter
115 votes
Mariano Rivera
135 votes

I voted for Jeter

because of his consistency and numerous clutch hits that have helped the Yankees to gain the lead which eventually led to Mo coming in anyways.

Mo for me

Who closes for all these teams if there is no Mo? DJ is a great Yankee.
But simply stated, they are separated by one word——-DOMINANCE

I don’t believe DJ dominates his craft as Mariano is the G.O.A.T at what he does.

So by that logic

there would be a TON of pitchers who could pitch that one inning effectively, and just about no one who could consistently play well at shortstop.

In the real world, Mariano Rivera is the best closer EVER, and Derek Jeter is not the best shortstop ever.

Facial LaFleur, total facial.

Is the best bubble gum bubble blower ever more valuable than Derek Jeter, too?

Sarcasm aside, not all positions are created equal. Doesn’t mean Jeter automatically comes out on top, but you have to account for how much each position can impact the game and how much each player contributed from their respective position.

Wow

After I just cast my vote for Mo it was 50/50 and that pretty much sums up this argument. I guess it’s kind of a cop out but I think Mo’s more valuable in the postseason, Jeter in the regular season and since it’s all about the playoffs in Yankeeland, that tips the scales in Mo’s favor. As great as Jeter is lots of teams have had a great, clutch hitter in their lineup. The Yankees are pretty much the only team over the last 25 years that have had a reliever who can give you 2 or even 3 scoreless innings in a huge spot pretty much every time you ask him to.

Jeter is amazing

But Mo is as automatic a closer as ever existed in the game of baseball.

But my vote went to Jeter. He plays EVERYDAY.
