Who's getting the call to the Bronx tomorrow?
Scranton's beat-writer Chad Jennings gives his take on who's getting promoted:
This new plan with Joba Chamberlain's short starts has changed things considerably. I was expecting only one or two pitchers to go up on September 1 -- New York is already carrying an extra reliever -- but these new Joba Rules* make me think three or four pitchers might go to the Bronx. I still expect only two or three position players.
* I actually kind of like this plan. Every time I think the Yankees are too cautious with their pitchers, I remember that it wasn't so long ago that Fausto Carmona and Francisco Liriano were two of the best pitchers in the American League.
I find it easier to think about September call-ups in terms of positions and roles rather than names and numbers. There are at least a dozen Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees who have earned a call-up, but not all of them will actually get one.
He names the usual suspects: Cervelli, Pena and Melancon, but says we'll a lot more (Edwar, Miranda, Shelley, Ajax, Alby, Claggett, etc.) after the Triple-A playoffs.

It would be nic to see some promise
Since we’re somewhat familiar and happy with the contributions of Pena and Cervelli and even Duncan in the past, it would be nice to get the same feelings and confidence in say…. Melancon and Jackson IMO.

So… they did not brought back Ramiro Peña in time so he could make the roster for the playoffs? what gives? he has had more contributions to this team than Marte who is surely going to be on the roster, along with Gaudin and Mitre…

What would Pena do in the post-season? Tex, Cano, Jeter, and Arod are going to play everyday. Either Melky or Gardner will be available to pinch run, as will Jerry Hairston Jr.

I think they should call up Ramiro Pena. Defensively it would be the right move. Having Pena would mean they could give Texiera and A-Rod and maybe even Jeter those much needed days off. Then they might be a little better. One more move that I think Girardi should consider is Cervelli. With Posada’s finger I think we need Cervelli. Posada needs more days off and you can’t work Molina to much so having Cervelli would give them both some much needed time off and some fresh and new offense for the opposing teams to deal with.

hmmm..
Need someone that can play GREAT when jeter’s off for day or two, not just ne one, jeter is the best shortstop in the league and we cant put just ne one in his place. Classic pettitte, the bomb as usual, hope he can keep up the good work when post season gets here. We should rotate the big guys toward the end of the regular season so they get proper rest and needed time off.
Yanks rock!!!
