Kicking the Red Sox when they are down

As Travis mentioned earlier, the Yankees tweaked the Red Sox by claiming Chris Carter and putting a snag in the Billy Wagner trade.

Well, now comes a report that the Bronx Bombers are interested in Brad Penny, whom Boston recently released.

I love it. Beating the Red Sox on the field, and making their lives miserable off of it. Doesn't get much better than that.

could Penny

be worse than Mitre or Gaudin? maybe not. he certainly has greater potential then them, so it’s worth a shot. and perhaps he could be a good reliever. 95 as starter could mean 100 as a reliever.

I don't want....

any of them to start for the Yankees.

i think with mitre is concentration and focus

He’s also got the nasty when he’s on….but I don’t like the penny move…hopefully I’m wrong but…I just don’t think he’s got the stuff yo kno?..maybe I’m wrong and any1 who cares to argue the point please do, because I never want a guy who can’t pitch in our pen. But I just haven’t seen anything from this guy yet for me to like this.

yeah i dont know

How to feel about this one either. Look at Jose veras, every team thinks they are going to be the ones to get him right. Some people, you just can’t reach. Penny may have some upside, but a hell of a lot of dowhside. Including the fact the our nemesis has a pretty in depth scouting report on him. Maybe penny in the pen, I don’t know. Can he be worse than mitre. I guess that is the question.

shit!

Where did you hear this

by swanny4eva on Aug 28, 2009 4:22 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

im not worried

About kazmir, he has over a 5 era, and has never given us that much trouble. But I dint hear the penny deal is done

by swanny4eva on Aug 28, 2009 4:25 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

kazmir

beat us in july i’m pretty sure

Kazmir has been dominant against the Yanks in his career

14 G, 81.2 IP, 2.53 ERA, 82 K, 36 BB, .218 BAA, .629 OPS allowed

better than i thought i guess

Still hardly something to freak out about.

by swanny4eva on Aug 28, 2009 4:41 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

he also

Only has a 2-0 record. With the way we have been playing, its gonna take a hell of a lot more than kazmir to scare me.

They said

that the Penny deal won’t happen b/c the Sux had a condition with Penny that he wouldn’t sign with anyone in the AL in order for them to release him.

by Mondoas on Aug 28, 2009 4:44 PM EDT reply actions

Id be fine with Penny

Unlike the Pissants situation, he’d ACTUALLY be our 5th starter (or 4th if you consider Joba the 5th guy.).

He’s not bad, he’s always good in the beginning too.

He throws hard too and maybe we can work with him on NOT throwing his FB 100% of the time.

As for Kazmir, he’s due for an implosion against the Yanks. No one is ever that good for that long against the Yanks. I have no feeling of him going to the Angels.

Cant help but think

something fishy is going on with the waiver process this yr.I have a hard time believing that all the teams ahead of the Angels passed on Kazmir? The Cardinals and many other National league teams have been begging for pitching. And I will just come out and say it,In the little league that is known as the senior circuit he would atleast be a good #2.He is only 25 and His contract is not one that will sink a teams future either. He has to be hurt or something is going on.Correct me if im wrong but dont the angels have a better record then the Dodgers?Surely they would have claimed him?Padilla is not there answer. This comes out to bite the yanks in the playoffs and questions need to be asked.

AL teams get first dibs on AL team's waivers

Im sure the Yanks would have claimed him if he went passed the Angels and Im surprised the Red Sox didn’t claim him

I doubt the Rays would have traded him to either, but still just to block this sort of deal.

Angels could be a problem

Come play-off time ,the Yankees have had a problem beating the Angels the last few times they have met. Kasmir has been effective against New York in his career and the Angels will be tougher to beat now if New York faces them in the post-season. They need to play better when they meet in Anaheim in late Sept. then the last time New York was there or it could be a short post-season again if the Yankees have to get by them to get to the World Series

that what im sayin...the angels have been a threat

For years now…we get spanked everytime….every….time……I love my yankees but no one can say come september that the angels weren’t already a threat….now they have a SOLID pitcher from the al who’s already familiar against the yanks….whoever our 5th is…better be good….I just hope that kazmir messes up somehow and won’t be able to deliver that championship experience he has from last yr.
