Yankees 8, White Sox 5: The Cyclical Season
The Yanks avoided the sweep with the kind of win that could get them rolling in the right direction again.
Sabathia wasn't great, but he was good enough for a win.
Sabathia was backed by a cycle from the Melk Man, who scored 3 times and drove in 3 other Yankee runs. Although Melky's triple probably should have been fielded more cleanly, if not caught, he deserves the championship belt. He joins some elite company: the previous Yankee cycles belonged to Tony Fernandez, Bobby Murcer, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, and Joe Gordon.
Sabathia is as much the hero for me, because after an awful 3rd inning, he dug deep and shut down the ChiSox for the next 4 innings.
Hughes came in and struck out a pair before giving way to the Great One. Hughes didn't look great, but he looked pretty good, and he got the job done. Mo pitched his 8th multi-inning save of the season.
It was a must win because even though the Red Sox didn't look pretty today, they beat the Orioles.
On a lighter note, how about that Cody Ransom? Wasn't he a great pinch runner? He's probably the best 25th man in baseball, don't you think?

FHEW!!!
I could have swore I saw a giant asteroid in the sky. Impending DOOM was upon us. Thank Melky and crew for saving us by blowing it up and the shards just barely missed Yankee Stadium.
Cody Ransom was left on the asteroid however, and didn’t make it back. Cody is now one of our heroes. Thanks for everything Cody…..
Nice of them to win a game.
The next week will tell us everything we need to know about the 2009 Yankees.

It is a pretty telling start for him...
…but probably not a deal-breaker either way.
My next column is going to be something like, “Cody Ransom must have pictures of Girardi fucking a goat.”

seriously
Is Ransom the worst player in the major leagues? I’m sure every team has a 25th guy, and I’d guess that the 25th guys for the Nationals, Pirates and Royals are worse than Ransom. Is the the worst player on any 1st place team? On any contending team?

I think that
there is a few players on Pirates, Nationals, Royals Better than Ransom…
But is anybody worse?
I’m seriously asking if Cody Ransom is literally the worst player in the major leagues. All of those teams have someone better; do any of them have someone worse?

That’s just it though. The Yankees are a team with resources, with a vibrant farm system, and so they are a team with options. There are any number of players who are better fits for this team than Cody Ransom.
Ramiro Pena, Francisco Cervelli, and Shelley Duncan all leap to mind.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
melk man delivers.
and cody ransome sucks i hate him.
Schumer said: "Now the Giants aren’t just New York’s team, they’re America’s team."
"You forget about it whether it was 15-2 or 3-2. It's still a loss. It doesn't matter what the score was if we win tomorrow."... Derek Jeter.
Not to be negative....
because the Yankees won but did you see Brian Bannister pitched 7 shutout innings against Tampa Bay today?? Hmmm wouldve looked good at the back end of the rotation…… or even the front end!!
But....
it doesn’t matter because we got Sergio Mitre!!!! And if he fails…. Kei Igawa!!!!!!
another one who would trade AJAX for Bannister?
I read that the asking price was similar to that of Washburn, so that meant Joba or Hughes or AJAX.
I say thank the lord that the Royals were insulted at the Yanks asking them to pay for the remaining $650,000 on Bannister’s contract.
Id think you’d have to be some kind of moron to trade a player with AJAX’s upside for Brian Bannister.
I think he’d be nice, but given the asking price fuck no.
If I ever see the words "Cody Ranson"
followed by “the best” it better be followed by
“DFA decision made by the Yankee brass this week.”
cc needs to get his shit together!
right fricking now!
Relax
He wasn’t terrible today. He was great in his first two starts back from the break. He’s had 2 great starts, one bad start, and one so so start since the All Star break. It would be nice for him to go on a roll, but we’ve won 3 of the 4 games he’s pitched since the break. Lighten up. He’s an ace. He’ll be fine.
Congratulations to Melky Cabrera!
It’s a terrific accomplishment. The equivilent of a no-hitter for a pitcher. And the first for a Yankee in quite a long time (‘95 I think). It’s good to see that Melky has done so well this year after an awful season last year. GO MELKY!!!!!!!!!!
And Kudos
to me for picking Melk-man as our best OVERALL OF.
