Would you believe 105+ wins?

The Yanks slightly slow start is forgotten. At 72-43 they have the major's best record.  That extends to a .626 winning percentage.  .626 for the season will get you 101.5 wins.  Love those 1/2 wins.  But the squad seems to be just hitting it's stride.  They might even go a few games better than 102.  (I will bet they do.  Takers?)

No wonder the brass is willing to take the foot off the gas enough to protect Joba's arm a little.  I really hope that pays off for us in future years.  He's seems to be the kind of guy who will blow hot and cold.  His motion is still really violent.  He is a huge powerful man.

But, I digress. How good do you guys think this squad is?  Anyone think the wheels are likely to come off and they end up with less than 100 wins.

For perspective, the Yanks have won 100 9 times in the last 50 years.  But they have exceeded 105 only twice in that period.  109 in 1961 and and the famous 114 in 1998.

This is a very good team and I'm loving it.

I’m just hoping they are doing the right thing tweaking the rotation for these “Joba Rules”. Mitre is a risk. And Gaudin until he proves it,is a risk as well IMO.

Maybe...

I think 105+ is certainly ideal, but it also depends on the other teams in our league. If we’ve locked up the division and/or best record in the AL with one or two weeks left in the season, then I see Girardi resting some of our starters; potentially hurting our overall record. I would much rather have 100 wins and a healthy lineup, than 105 wins and tired players.

That and I’ll be damned if we win 100+ games and lose in the first round (again). Strong, rested rotation in the playoffs……GO.

There is going to be a ton of pressure on this team

come postseason time. This is an unbelievable team, and anything but a WS is a bust with the team we have this year. I don’t care how many wins we end up with, as long as we are the ones with the Trophy.

Apparently Joba's starting Sunday

maybe the whole long rest aint working? What about the AS break? But he’s been first half Joba lately….but….????

If they abandon their plan and go balls-to-the-wall with Joba

despite all of Girardi’s assurances that they will not, then it will be time for me to utter a favorite of yours….

FIRE GIRARDI!

Facial LaFleur, total facial.

I don't think they are

I think they finally realize that Gaudin + Mitre is more FIRE GIRARDI than moving Joba back to Wednesday.

Plus, there’s those Pesky Pissants at the end of next week, so Id say they are gonna start Joba on back to back Sundays.

it doesn't matter

I don’t care what they finish with, as long as it includes 11 wins after regular season ends.

Win numbers isn't important

I look forward to locking up the division title ASAP. Girardi will then have the luxury to rest for the playoffs the older players such as Jeter, ARod, Posada, Damon, Matsui, and Mo.

Who cares?

Best record in the AL is all that matters for the regular season.

After that, it’s World Series or bust.

This season is quickly evolving into “WS or STFU” for the Yankees

by waw on Aug 17, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

as it should

After all…we are the yankees….i think there gonna hit 100…i dont see our bullpen winning THAT many games for us….there reliable enough for 100 which personally i feel is a GREAT season for a rotation but bottom line is….october is put up or shut up…al east only sound good when it trails ’and world series champions….the NYY"…and i think we have a great chance to do it
