Jeter on Steroids? Would that destroy baseball?

After watching Cano and a little of the post game I decided to look at my favorite web site: pinstripealley.com. Perhaps you've heard of it. After reading Travis G's recap I went to the baseball section of ESPN.com and read an article about what would happen to baseball if Derek Jeter tested positive to steroids.

If I ever see Jeter's name attached to the hip of performance enhancers, I'm done. I mean it -- I'll never watch another big league game again. Because if Captain Pinstripes could do the Vitamin S deed, then anybody can.

Jeter's name is where I draw the line in the PED sand. He is the absolute last guy I'd ever suspect of juicing. It seems so, well, beneath him. He is the one player who I actually think would walk away from the game if he thought he had to cheat to compete.

I could not agree more with Gene's statements. Jeter is the epitome of elegance and good behavior. Basically Jeter is baseball.

If you want to read this article the link is:  http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=4392903

Personally, I can not even think of Derek doing steroids. I idolize him and if he ever was found to be using PEDs baseball might not have a great meaning to me anymore. I love Jeter and would be crushed if he ever cheated.

Also to get this out there I DO NOT THINK JETER EVER CHEATED. This statement is directed to those people who were thinking about putting a hate speech comment saying that I am an idiot for thinking Jeter cheated.

If

Jete took steroids, or any PED (except for supps obviously), baseball would be destroyed. Jeter’s the face of the anti-steroid side of baseball (A-Rod was too, hope that doesn’t mean anything), and if he juiced, then nobody is immune to suspicion. It could mean that Ramiro Pena, Cerevelli or Bernie Williams juiced.

Something massive will happen if he tests positive.

If Jeter

was on the list of 103 players, his name would have already came out. Whoever is leaking the names would have given his name out

"Hey Derek do you actually drive the Edge?","I don't drive that piece of crap!"

I don't know if that's necessarily the case

They could still be holding back for drama’s sake. Even though I don’t even think he’s on the list.

I mean, David Ortiz’s name got leaked and that was a surprise (to some). So anything could be possible. Once again, even though I don’t think he’s on the list.

No

the names are to be kept confidential, court orders. If he’s on the list (which is isn’t) it would be illegal to leak his name

If Jeter

were caught juicing my view on life, would change.

Were you really surprised?

Were people really that surprised that Ortiz was juicing? I mean, he hadn’t hit over 20 HR’s in a season before he came to Boston. Minnesota thought him a flop. Then he has seasons where he hit 40, 50 home runs with a horrible slump to follow? Come on.

Jeter is one of those guys who you’re not sure about though. Always been a defensive liability with his lack of range, but makes up for it as a strong leader and good offensive numbers. The late 90’s and now are the steroid eras. And anybody could have done it. Ramirez, Ortiz, I’m sure Curt Schilling did, A-Rod, and possibly Jeter.

Jeter getting outed

would bring down the league. People can hate on Jete all they want, he’s still going strong and one of the best all around players in the game, STILL. That he’s still going strong is reason to suspect too…..

A-Rod I was just pissed cuz he’s on my team and I have to hear about it from non Yank fans and Yank fans as well. Pettite no one seems to care about anymore, Clemens I never cared for ever either.

But if Jete should be on that list, Id have to re-asses my whole outlook on the game. THAT would make be give a crap out PED’s in baseball.

I think Pujols may just be the next big name on there, he’s been consistent his whole career, but when he comes back from injuries that normal people it would take 2 months, he comes back in 2 1/2 weeks, that’s suspect.

I really don’t think Jete, or Damon or MO for that matter, have anything to do with this, at least I hope not. They just don’t fit the bill.

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 13, 2009 11:12 AM EDT reply actions

A-Rod

at least never used steroids in NY, and that makes it a little easier to take. Clemens? You know, at first, when he said he never used, I believed him. But now, the evidence against him is overwhelming I’m surprised he’s not in jail already.

I agree that Jeter, Damon, and Mo just don’t fit the bill. But, at the same time, Andy Pettitte was one of the last people I would ever have suspected to use PEDs. You never know right? But my opinion of baseball would really change if Jeter was ever caught cheating. That would be heartbreaking.

Baseball is bigger than that.

It would suck but baseball would be fine. Surviving the Black Sox and the strike of 1994 show that our national infatuation cannot be dissuaded. If Jeter were a user, then the repercussions would last for a while but within a few years, everything would be back to normal.

hgh perhaps

The thing most people miss is that while not everyone is “juicing” with actual steroids, I believe that a far greater number use human growth hormones. In fact, with no info or proof other than my own eyes, i suspect 90% of the NBA uses hgh. Look at Lebron when he was 18 years old. No 18 year old looks like that. Watch NBA footage from 20 years ago and it makes you laugh how thin these guys were. It’s hysterical. Same with baseball players.

Back to Jeter – even he seems somewhat bigger than the SS’s of years gone by, so it would not surprise me if you told me he experimented hgh. I almost think most pro athletes need it in order to physically compare with their peers.

Remember everyone – there is no test for detecting hgh, so if the players out there who where using steroids before and had to give them up because of the testing, many if not all of them are probably using some degree of growth hormone. To me, Albert Pujols looks like a human test tube of the stuff. Pettitte got trapped into revealing he used hgh because of his suppliers testimony regarding Clemens. Most of today’s players look “too thick” and are not lifting more weights than guys did, say 15 years ago.

I don’t suspect Derek uses hgh, but I would not be surprised if he or anyone else did. Not one bit and that’s a shame.

Time to accept PEDs were just something baseball players did

Probably still do.

Believeing in a pure core of the game is believing in Santa Clause.

These were just helpful tools.

Alas

If I's known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself. Casey

The problem is this: steroids weren’t really cheating until they were banned from baseball back in 2003. Some of the stuff guys were taking that triggered positive tests were perfectly legal things you could buy in GNC. If you don’t believe me, research Pro-Hormones.

So the question is this: If it’s legal to buy, and not banned by your sport, is it cheating? Where do you draw the line? Creatine will give you a decent performance enhancement, but I don’t think anyone would say that players that used Creatine are cheating.

On the topic of Jeter, I don’t think he would ever do something that was unethical or dangerous, so I really doubt he ever used steroids or pro hormones.

Jeter

Why ANYBODY would even waste their time thinking about Jeter and the thought of steroids is beyond my comprehension. Jeter IS baseball. It’s as simple as that. Just look at him. He doesn’t look like an ape or the missing link like Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, Barry Bonds, etc. You get the picture.
