So Good, So Good
With all right in the world, what is there left to talk about?

Joe!
You get me so frustrated! Why did you allow Coke to continue pitching in the 8th last night? You are lucky the bats saved you!
Still I am left wondering what were you thinking? Sure Hughes pitched in 2 straight games, but he only pitched a combined 2/3 of an inning and threw 9 pitches! Further, today is an off day!
What does it say about you when the Yanks are up 1-0 in the top of the 8th, in an important game against the team that is chasing you, and you elect to go with (and stay with) Phil Coke and you leave Phil Hughes on the bench!
Again, you are lucky that we wake up with a 6.5 game lead on the Red Sox and not 4.5
Ever heard of Scott Proctor?
yeah, we don’t want another one. Phil is still mad young. Having him get up, get warm and come into the game and max out for an innings is still very stressful on a young arm. no need to blow him out.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

That picture caption
is hilarious….
does it every seem like sometimes the yankees just stop pushing so hard after they got the three run lead? Like last night they were probably like damn… we screwed mo out of a save on sat, better let him have the one tonight.
ah well… its good to not only have the best record in baseball, but the biggest division lead in baseball….
Life’s Good
Feels so good, but a little reality check.
Most satisfying for me: 31 shutout innings in a row and 8 runs total given up – that’s just absurd, that our pitching could just dominate them so much. Their offense is just awful – what were they, .178 for the four games? It’s stunning to see that their hitting has gotten this bad. Not that I really have a problem with that.
I’ll grant one thing – their starting pitching is pretty good. Both Lester and Burkett left without having given up any runs, and Buckholtz also delivered a quality start. If Lester and Burkett hadn’t been so good, can you imagine what a nightmare series this could have been for the Sox? Those two will win a lot more games for them.
It’s not going to be like this the last 6 games of the season against them. They’re slumping, but slumps don’t last a half season for a team. They’ll get back Wakefield (an all-star, if you recall) and Dice-K. Their hitters will get back in the groove.
So let’s enjoy this for now, but remember, there’s still a lot of games left in the season, and then we’ve got to win another three series to earn #27.
Starts tonight with Toronto. And not to rain on the parade, but we’re putting freaking Sergio Mitre out there. Mr. “If I give up five runs, I’ve done my job”. No letdown from the offense, please.
seeing a-rod after years of chocking in big games and not playing well vs boston hitting a walk-off was the highlight of his yankee career (til the playoffs(hopefully))
Schumer said: "Now the Giants aren’t just New York’s team, they’re America’s team."
"You forget about it whether it was 15-2 or 3-2. It's still a loss. It doesn't matter what the score was if we win tomorrow."... Derek Jeter.

Did I misremember 2007 or something?
A-Rod has had plenty of big hits in his Yankee career before this season.
A-Rod has had plenty of clutch hits against Boston
this season I remember a double to put them ahead in Boston, then MO blew the save.
Last season a GW HR of PapelCrap. GW hits are not something that should happen all the time.
Actually A-Rod is in the league lead for GW hits this season, and he more than a month + time getting healthy.

I thought Joe was dumb too for leaving in Coke
but as usual, hindsight is 20/20.
Pedroia has actually been not as good against LH pitchers this season, while V-Mart is roughly the same.
I know the idea is that Hughes didn’t pitch to many people over this series, but I guess they shut him down.
There’s still was really no reason to think anyone was gonna do anything for the Pissants. They haven’t done anything the whole series. They were due and what happened could have very well happened off Hughes too.
I agree.
Just because Hughes wasn’t on the mound doesn’t mean that wouldn’t have happened anyway.
And on the other side, Coke is no slouch. I only question leaving him in there for the righties. He’s a lefty specialist that holds his own against righties, but Mo is still the better option. I suppose you factor in the big picture. The series was won and Monday is not an off day so asking 5 outs from Mo was unnecessary.
My favorite part of the series was the matching or outpitching of Suckett, Buttholz and Fester. That is exactly why this staff was purchased.
can it still be called hindsight...
…if as soon as Coke came out, a lot of us we’re already thinking, where’s Hughes??
Bottom line, the bats saved Joe G’s tail- so no damage done. But I just wonder what Joe’s reasoning was for not bringing out Hughes for the 8th. Or for that matter, not leaving him in to pitch the ninth in Saturday’s game?
What exactly would qualify as an important enough game to leave him in for more than batter?
Just wondering.

You're right
I said the same thing of course.
But again, looking at the whole series, Coke was very good.
I don’t have a clue what the reason for not bringing in Hughes, I read now that he was shut down for this game so why that is I have no clue.
They showed Hughes with his head in his hands, so maybe he had the shits or maybe he just was pissed at this whole coddling pitchers thing. I don’t know.
Still, Coke has been very good this series. Keebler hasn’t done crap, either has V-Mart.
The Red Sox were due for some runs of course.
Another thing to get out if it is the fact the Yanks tore up the supposedly unhittable Daniel Bard.
Soon as they went ahead 2-1 and that a-hole came in, you’da thought the game was over with the way the Pissant fans talk about Bard.
No lead is safe against the Yankees so that kinda made the win more satisfying. I don’t have anything against Bard like I do PapelCrap, but that was sweet seeing Damon turn around a 98 mph fastball.

The reasoning is that phil gets a day off after back to back appearances.
No matter how short they are. it’s just like the Joba rules.

makes sense I guess
shame that it backfired of course.
But what are these Hughes rules now? He aint starting this season so its not like he’s gonna amass 150 IP!?

How sweep it is!!!!!!
Stellar pitching, clutch hits,a rockin’ Yankee stadium……these are the Bombers we expect!!!
An M-V-P chant should start (a la Kobe and Lebron) for Tex.
ARod is awesome even hitting .256
Who knew Johnny Damon was Bobby Murcer (R.I.P) reincarnated.?
CC and AJ became full-blown Yankees this weekend
Good to see Andy have his fun too as a veteran and go toe to toe with Lester

Tex
definitely earned his Pinstripes last night.
And I know people won’t get off A-Rod’s case til he does it in the post season, but his exploits this weekend have to win over at least some of the critics.

i actually thought a while ago Jeets was our MVP this season
but his BA has regressed and Tex is just hammering the ball

That's why
it’s best to wait for the season to end before handing out any awards.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
