Let the Roy Halladay sweepstakes begin.

"We have to see what's out there," Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi says. "I'm not saying we're going to shop him. But if something makes sense, we at least have to listen. We're (leaning) more toward listening than we've ever been."

I doubt he'd ever be traded within the division, but it's fun to think about. What would you give up for 1.5 years of Roy Halladay?

I know I'll sound like a hypocrite

but Id start with Joba, Melky and Cano.

Joba obviously has potential, but who knows if his next 10 years will look like Halladay’s next 10 years (cuz I DO think the Yanks will sign him to an extension as part of any deal).

Melky is one of the most clutch guys on the team, but with guys like Gardner and of course AJax in the system, there’s other options.

And Cano would probably be the sweetener to the deal. I don’t know where he would fit with the Jays. Given his age and production Id think this is enough for Halladay no?

Cano would be missed, but with guys like Pena in the wings in order to merely shore up the defensive side (and possibly opening up 2B as a future position for Jeets…)

Joba, Melky, Cano, for Halladay. That’s 2 very young guys who you can still look at as prospects, and a 26 y/o 2B who would swithc positions, I don’t know if he’s a SS or Aaron Hill can play there.

I don’t know if the Jays would do this deal, nor do I know if I’D actually go through it.

but at least this is the sort of haul, at least to start (Yanks would probably have to include someone like McAllistert too) that it would take for probably the best pitcher in the game.

OR

Hughes, Melkman, and some prospect (C Jesus Montero mentioned in the Fox sports article). Somehow I feel letting go of Hughes at this point is more realistic than Joba, but agreed that Melky can go

WHOA!

HELL NO!

Hughes vs. Joba is debatable. I’ve always liked Hughes better, so Id rather keep the Phrancise.

But the HELL NO is for Jesus Montero. You take a gander at this kid’s AA stats? I mean we are talking about a Pujolsian talent at the plate here.

Montero is about as untouchable as it gets. Of course, if your getting back Albert Pujols, then OK.

He’s probably the only one in the ORG Id consider off limits with Halladay.

Montero

I mention Montero only because in order to get something good you better be willing to part with something good. Pardon me, but I’ve always been a believer in the old George Allen adage that “the future is now.” We can’t possibly know what Montero can be in a year or two (or longer), but we know that adding Halladay can make us just that much more a World Series contender THIS YEAR. Plus, as mentioned in the Fox sports article, Riccardi is a Beane/Moneyball disciple and wouldn’t rule out intra-division deals. No guarantee that if we don’t move, Epstein won’t…

They aren't trading Halladay this year

let alone to the Sux or the Yanks.

They see themselves as contenders next year because they have a three young pitchers coming back, and add those 3 to Romero and Halladay and that’s a damn good rotation.

Id think Riccardi is just testing the waters to see what kind of offers he gets because next season if the Jays are like they are now, then they trade him.

I'm confused...

…Halladay is one of your frequent examples of guys who started slowly in the majors before turning into an inning-eating stud.

If you believe Joba has that kind of potential, how can you advocate trading him for a 32-year-old who is probably at his peak or just beyond at this point?

And I’m not a general manager, but I think it’s customary to listen to a request before offering 3 guys off your current major league roster right off the bat.

that's why I said Hypocrite....

cuz I kinda thought you’d snipe in on that.

Would I trade Joba in a deal for Halladay? In the end probably not. That’s why I said Id probably not go through with it.

Is Halladay at his peak? As the best pitcher in baseball its really hard to tell, cuz you don’t get better than that.

Its probably mute anyway. Why the hell would the Jays trade him to the Yankees?

my left nut.

probably might right also.

LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!!!!

Would you make this deal within your own division?

Getting a 3 time cy young winner for an everyday starter and lefty reliever and a young unproven prospect? That’s what the Yanks did to get Roger Clemens from the Blue Jays.
The blue jays also had David Cone and the Yanks ended up with him (how I don’t remember).
It could happen, but one would expect that the deal would cost something substantial, I think a big time everyday player, a decent starter and a prospect, or if the jays add Aaron Hill then I could see Robinson Cano leaving as part of the package. What ever happens, if the Yanks are serious, it’s going to hurt a little (or a lot)

I would

if I could get Jeter, Posada, CC, AJ, Tex, Joba & the two Phils in return.

Here's the problem

Not bringing into the equation the same division thing, I dont think the Yanks could ever put together a deal that would work. The Jays would def want Hughes or Joba. The other parts of the deal mentioned above are A Jax, Melky, and Cano. But the Jays have Rios, Wells, and Lind in toe OF, so they have no use for Melky or A Jax. And as for Cano, Aaron Hill has been lights out this year.

I know the trade could never happen in the Al East, but even if it could happen, I dont knoe if the Yankees have all the pieces Toronto would want for Roy.
