Fourth of July: Jays at Yankees
Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees, Jul 4, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Today is a celebration of everything that truly matters.
It is a reminder of who we are, where we come from, and where we are headed.
Today is a rousing annunciation of how the things we have in common are greater than our differences; these are the things that create our common identity and the sense of unity that have preserved us in hours of darkness, and these are the things that will continue to guide us as we move forward into the 21st century.
Today is George Steinbrenner's birthday. It is his vision of dominance that has fueled the Yankees for 36 years, and this vision has become pinstriped creed.
The Yankees have won 8 of 9, and they sit 2 games behind Boston for the division.
Eyes on the prize.

What is it with Yankee pitchers when they get ahead 0-2?
They can’t finish anyone off. Looks like it’ll be another short outing for Wang today, unfortunately.
Sigh
DirectTV Extra Innings doesnt seem to have the game on.

Fox has rights to airing Saturday day games
Blame MLB for selling those rights to Fox. For me that means I don’t watch much Baseball on Saturdays. Kind of defeats the idea of a captive market for Fox when a member of their target market, like myself, doesn’t watch.
Sweet Zombie Jesus
Wang’s ERA is in single digits?

Do you think that Eiland or Girardi needs to slap Wang on
the head and tell him to keep the ball down? Or is that too much to ask of him?
You mean the guy that
has 44 pitches through 4 and given up the same amount of runs as Doc Holliday? You mean smack that guy?

Yes, I mean the guy who has given up 4 runs in 5 1/3 innings
because he won’t/can’t keep the ball down. That’s the guy.

They offense needs to tag Halladay
Nothing would give Wang more confidence than a win against the leagues best pitcher.

Posada HR...
batting 6th. Matsui, battign 7th. Cano ends rally batting 5th.
Is there something wrong here?
and you have 2 guys who have had multiple 100 RBI seasons batting behind him.
I can see if Cano was getting on, but A-Rod and Tex are on ALL THE TIME!
Matsui NEEDs to go back the the 5 hole.
IF Mats is in the 5 hole I have no doubts he has at leat 15 more RBI and possibly the Yanks a few more wins. Its THAT big a deal right now with Cano.
Cano hits HR, he get on. But NOT with RISP.
Robertson can't throw strikes either
Man, isn’t there anyone on the team who can get the ball over the plate (other than Swisher)?
Hammering Halladay
The Yanks can hammer guys like Halladay and Santana, but couldnt hit the Nats starters. What gives?
We need Cano?
For what DP’s, defense without much range, lackadasial play? Who needs a guy that doesnt give it his all every time? And what do the Jets have to do with anything?
Why can't Hughes go 2?
Mo stinks when he comes in a tie game. Girardi is a moron. Mo has already gotten the go-ahead run on. There goes the game
Nothing like...
Losing to a team from Canada on our Independence Day. Thanks Joe, I hope they cancel you and your stupid show.
Hughes
I hope he’s okay after his strenuous outing. It is ridiculous how roles dictate what happens over intelligence. 8 pitches.
I don't understand the Hughes limits either
but Id trust MO for one inning over Hughes for 2 still.
But I do think Joe needs to trot out Hughes for a 2nd inning, especially after an 8 pitch one.
Well, I think Hughes is in a much better position to go 2 or 3
innings than Mo is. Using Mo in a tie game in the 9th is both wasting Hughes and putting Mo in a situation where he hasn’t done well. Doesn’t make sense, whether Joe gets away with it today or not.

Maybe they are saving Hughes
We dont if Wang’s shoulder is a big problem, so they dont want to “overwork” Hughes. I think Mitre would be brought up, Hughes is too valuable in the pen right now.
Mo has the experience over Hughes but..
But the hitters know Mo better, and 8 pitches? Give a break with the Hughes Rules.
EVen game all around
5 R, 10 hits, 0 errors.
Except for one, Jays 16 LOB, Yankees 14 LOB……and there are 2 runners on, with Cano up…….
Lets get this done
cuz if this goes another inning Girardi’s gonna have to trot out the bullpen security guard
huh....
Coke throws 8 and goes 2, but Hughes nyet?
I think at least this time Girardi has an excuse with Wang potentially missing his next start.
Demaso Marte Who?
Coke has been the lefty we thought we were getting in Marte. And to think the Pirates didnt want him in that deal. The Pirates did win that deal though.
Damon
Has already come through for us today so you cant be upset with that but i’m disappointed in jeter for that K
Just got back from doing whatever the hell I was doing
Nail biter I see. Any news on Wang?

If the was Cano's call
He gets benched and moved down to the 8 spot. If Girardi called that then he officially is the dumbest manager I have ever seen. If Cano missed the sign, that just means he is stupid AND incompetent.

Posada needs to
Save his manager 2 hours of being grilled by the media

1 game back feels good
Cano leaving 10 men on base = a benching

Nice game
Well actually seemed pretty bad, but a win is a win. Is Wang injured or just hurt? Is Cano ever gonna be dropped in the order? Is Girardi gonna start making really stupid calls that could cost games? Tune in tomorrow to find out!

I'm glad we won
But that bunt was inexcusable. I want to know who thought that was a good idea. Somebody better ask him about that. He’ll probably deflect or give a non answer tho
Stay tuned to the Joe Girardi Show
Cano wont understand the Question, and Joe will say so what, we won. How many more of these bone headed moves will he make. With everyday he manages he devalues the NL Manager Of The Year Award.
