Hairston is final piece towards Canyon of Heroes

You really have to admire Brian Cashman for having the guts to pull off a trade that all but guarantees the 27th championship in the glorious history of the New York Yankees.

Sure, he could have acquired some much-needed pitching help like Jarrod Washburn, but Cashman recognized that what the 2009 Yankees were missing was a 33-year-old utility player with a .259 career average.

Washburn could have been good

he also could have been fodder for the short porches in the new stadium. Washburn isn’t good enough for what they were asking, nor are the Yankees desperate enough to pull the trigger for what they wanted.

If they went after Peavey, cuz he obviously was available (tho the NT clause might have stopped it) would that have been enough to satisfy? It obviously would have cost more than a few arms like Joba and/or Hughes (like Halladay) so I don’t want that.

Eventually they will do something, they always do. The Waiver thing never stops them. They still don’t know what they do with Joba. Do they skip a start? DO they do my obviously flawed sit him for a month approach?

With Pettite dealing and Joba still in the rotation (and dealing…) there was no need to go and get a 5th starter at this point (at the expense of Joba…)

Our savior and true Canyon Hero in to form of Bronson Arroyo will be here by the end of August…….

i'm with you

i would’ve definitely agreed to Seattle’s asking price of either Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain for a soon-to-be 35-year old pitcher that becomes the Yankees’ 4th or 5th starter in a heartbeat. i mean what were the Yankees thinking?!?

Hughes is coming off a 25 1/3 scoreless inning streak and has been outstanding as the bridge to Mo – something the Yankees desperately needed the last three years and didn’t have. Joba has pitched three straight gems, is 7-2 on the year, and looks to be out of his funk.

sometimes i think you complain just to complain. give it a rest buddy.

Christ, learn to appreciate sarcasm

It’s tongue-in-cheek. Not serious. Are you still not getting this?

Did I suggest they should have traded away Joba or Hughes for Washburn? And by the way, just because you HEARD that’s what it would have taken doesn’t mean it’s true.

Point being, the Yankees DO need another starter. There is no denying that.

And for crying out loud, I was poking fun at their “big” deadline move. Unclench and pull the stick out of your ass.

sarcasm about Hairston noted

however i didn’t catch it with this quote: “Sure, he could have acquired some much-needed pitching help like Jarrod Washburn…”. also, i didn’t come up with the Washburn asking price of Joba or Hughes on my own. if you had read anything in the past 24 hours, the reports were pretty widespread that Seattle asked for either Joba or Hughes. that was the price everyone was reporting, so that’s what i went with.

the Yankees do need another starter, i agree with you. i just don’t know how they would’ve obtained said starter for anything less than Joba/Hughes/Jackson which i think we’d both agree isn’t worth it. saying “well, we need this so let’s get it done!” without having a plan to do so, is a fucking waste of time. it gets us nowhere.

side note: no reason to get nasty my man. we’re all Yankees fans here (i think).

It's called a "frame of reference"

Washburn was obviously unattainable based on the reported criteria, but at least that move would have been an upgrade in a critical area for the 2009 Yankees.

Unless Hairston has a wicked slider that I haven’t heard about, today’s trade won’t make a lick of difference come October.

Ransom out

At least Hairston gets Cody Ransom off the team. I still don’t understand what the Yankees have against Ramiro Pena but oh well.
