Manny and Ortiz on 2003 positive steroid list
How wonderful this is.
Unlike Ramirez, who recently served a 50-game suspension for violating baseball’s drug policy, Ortiz had not previously been linked to performance-enhancing substances.
Scott Boras, the agent for Ramirez, did not respond to telephone and e-mail messages seeking comment.
Asked about the 2003 drug test on Thursday in Boston, Ortiz shrugged. "I’m not talking about that anymore," he said. "I have no comment."

HAH
Bill Simmons.
I always wondered how the hell you can have such a homer doing columns for a supposedly neutral network.

Great Story
Also goes to show you even more how much ESPN loves the Red Sox. Even watching the coverage today, the demeanor on ESPN seemed saddened and shocked (like a Red Sox fan shocked)…a lot different than when the A-Rod story broke back in February. Back then, they were all over it like Entertainment Tonight is on Jon & Kate Plus 8. Pathetic…
Pride, Power, Pinstripes...Go Yankees!
Steve Phillips
just let the cat out of the bag when he mentioned that there’s a lot of Red Sox fans on the network.
I bet Gammons is crying right now.

Dude
Do you have any convictions?? Here you are in agreement. You have been stalking me just to yell at me for anti nation sentiment. You have zero credibility. One day your a Red Sox nation symphathizer. The next day you are agreeing with everything I have been saying.
I see things you don't see.
I wasn't even replying to you
and Im stalking now? LOL!
Where did i agree with anything you have said?
I knew ORTIZ was linked
can you say tainted ’04 and ’07 ??

Doubt it
If he said steroid users should be banned for 1 year, why would he do that to himself? And read what arroyo said about it, that might enlighten you.

I knew it
Finally, some confirmation. I knew it couldn’t have been coincidence that Ortiz goes from chump dropped by the Twins into power hitting sensation as soon as he is paired with Manny and his fem-fam.

PS
And that he reverts to giant power slump as soon as MLB amps up their testing rules and regulations.

It’s funny how the media is milking this story for all it’s worth.
This list supposedly has 104 names on it. One by one, the biggest names are being leaked, a few months apart. A-Rod in January, Sammy Sosa in April/May, now David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, every few months a new name will pop up, at least for the next few years.
*2007
If Red Sox fans want to look down on our championships in the late 90’s because of a few players, why can’t we look down on their other championship when they’re two best players are juiced.
That being said, obviously there are alot of stars who have taken steroids. Writing off championships in the steroid era would solve nothing.
please place asterik after "2004 World Series Champions"
and lets see the complete list
i want every single name exposed
Agreed
I have said repeatedly I want all the names. This ‘slow leak’ crap is ridiculous. It is also unfair to all the players who are being ridiculed now, because lots of players are still shrouded in secrecy.

the cynic in me thinks
its being leaked slowly to maximize news cycles
A black eye for Baseball...
I have mixed feeling about this. I do not think any true fan is surprised by this, and every fan should be saddened by another black eye to this great sport.
Before we get to giddy about asterisks remember that several Yankees have been named, too. Let’s just get steroids behind us and get back to baseball.
Now the Yankee fan in me would be very pleased to see Curt Schilling on the list.
by YanksFanSince64 on Jul 30, 2009 1:16 PM EDT reply actions
remember earlier this year
when Papi stated he wanted year long punishments for positive drug tests rather than 50-game ones?
Can anyone say Curt Schilling?
Hopefully, this shuts him up? Although with his mouth, who knows. Wouldn’t be surprised if his name is on it too….
Now just waiting on...
Mueller, Millar, and Bellhorn… I’d bet a substantial sum they’re right there on that list as well.
Bill Mueller?
Really?

Now Introducing the new 2009 Big 12 Baseball Tournament Champions: UT, KSU*, BU*, and MU*!
Hopefully that's a joke...
But if not, I’ll bite and tell you why. In 2003, Bill Mueller posted career highs in just about every major offensive category including freaking triples. I mean he had career best numbers in hits, doubles, triples, HR, and BA. Now, I know just about every player has what you could call a “career year,” but I would be utterly shocked if it was as simple as that. I mean, you have consider the whole team dynamic side of steroids. If one guy on a team was doing it, there’s a good chance plenty were. Just look at the O’s or the Rangers. Come on, now. If the leaders of the team in Ortiz and Manny were juicing, you really think a little guy like Bill Mueller wouldn’t follow suit? I’d bet most anything Mueller was on roids.
All we know is that they were PED's, not necessarily steriods.
But I do agree, I’m pretty sure you can’t count out anybody not using PED’s during that span. But to call out a player like Bill Mueller? He’d be way down on my list to accuse. He was on a new team, new stadium, new fanbase – and it was his first full season in two years. I’d start pointing fingers at the guys hitting 500 foot homeruns.
And by the way – he had 5 triples that year. 5. He hit 4 triples three other times. Not really a stat to bring up – I would have gone with how many doubles he hit, but that’s not necessarily a power stat.

well in fenway
numbers can go up unusually. The monster turns routine fly balls into doubles, and the right field wall creates misplays and triples.

steriods
hear jim rice talk saying on n.e.s.n.why are not they saying why are not saying the yanks names ,boy jim i did not hear you say that whe yhey said A RODS name?what do you say mister hall of famer?

so far i see one comment claiming 04 was clean….but for the most part they seem pretty pissed
JETER IS CLEAN!!!
And by the way when are we going to get another look at why OUR tax dollars were used for an investigation by a govt official who was on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS for the RED SOX… very funny that this is the first time we heard any word about prominent Sawx players linked to PED’s ..>FEVER PITCH THIS !!!
ortiz
remember ORTIZwas released by the twins?ARSTIK NEXT TO WORLD SERIES IN 2004 SOX remember ORTIZsaid 1 YEAR ban on anyone caught with roids
Well I just would hope they give him a full batter of tests TODAY
I want to make sure he is not enhannced, since June 1st. I believe there is still some heavy stuff that is being used and not detectable. One word. Ibanez.

what about moving from Safeco to Citizens bank?
think that had anything to do with it?
by Brian5517209 on Jul 30, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Or from moving from the Big Leagues to AAAA?
by FreeBradshaw on Jul 30, 2009 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions
not a huge difference in stadiums
.980 park factor at safeco, and 1.o74 park factor at citizens bank. Not huge, but noticeable nonetheless .

The good news
Is that they started by leaking the biggest name and worked their way down, so we can be sure that Albert Pujols and Derek Jeter aren’t on the list. They would have been leaked already.
idk
A-Rod and then Manny/Bid Mommy…there still are some big names im worried about that were just as important as those three

Just took a peek at OTM
and it looks like a cyberspace nervous breakdown……..point a finger, four more point right back at you.
this is devastating to them clearly with their 86 year drought and yada yada.
terrible for the game on all levels though. i’ll be waiting for the crowd reaction when he gets called up to the plate over on NESN 2nite.

I thought Ortiz was already asked earlier today and he said
No Comment. I wouldn’t be shocked if the fans didn’t know yet, or at least those without an iPhone.

Man, can't wait to hear the abuse at the Stadium
when the Sox come to town next week….
Big Papi is going to need big earplugs.
I like Big P-E-D
and it’s syringes, not pills, right?
more suggested nicknames.
Ortiz needs a catchy taunting nickname. Arod has been plagued by A-roid everywhere he goes. It’s time Ortiz gets his dues. Put your witty thinking caps on, I’m getting my posterboard, and sharpie marker ready.
Get all the names out!
I’ll admit I dont know the legal ramifications for releasing ALL the names on that list. Could there be lawsuits?? I dunno….
BUT, assuming they can let the names out legally, then MLB should let all the names out ASAP.
Get this over and one in one big name dump…or would they rather the slow trickle of pain that comes with 2-3 new players ever year for the next 10 years or whatever??? Just get it over and done….like yanking out a giant, terrible, horrible, painful, rotten tooth!
DO IT MLB!!! TELL US THE TRUTH NO MATTER WHO IT IS!
TO MY BROTHER THE RED SOX FAN....
The famous 1-2 punch of Ramirez and Ortiz, was one big cheating flippin lie!
Take back the titles!!!!!!!
None of the guys
on the Yankees championship squads were as integral to the winning as Manny and Ortiz.
Yankees could have lost most of the guys that roided and were on the champ teams and still been an excellent team.
YOu take away Manny and Ortiz? Red Sox are a pile of dung.
