6-2 Tampa: Kazmir's still got it
There's still something about Scott Kazmir that upsets the Yankees because, in the midst of his worst season as a pro, he's still able to shut them down for seven innings.
Tampa Bay just had the better pitcher tonight. Sabathia did not bring his 'A game', and Kazmir did, allowing just one run in seven as opposed to Sabathia allowing six in 5.2.
Two errors and two GDPs certainly didn't help the cause. Jeter, Damon, Cano and Melky went 0-12.
The only real bright spot(s) from were Mark Melancon's 2.1 shutout frames in relief of CC.
The series is on the line tomorrow as Joba faces Matt Garza.
- Chien Ming-Wang will have season ending surgery tomorrow, per Pete Abe (h/t to RAB). That really sucks. When it rains, it pours. Does it mean Cashman will definitely acquire a pitcher by the deadline?
- The A's have scored three in the top of the ninth, thanks to two Nick Green errors (that's the guy we know and love), to tie Boston at seven.

I'm nowhere near a TV
so watching this game on a CPU was painful. I guess CC left his strikes in his luggage. Brush it off sports fans. Joba should be quite intriguing manana

The defense didn;t give CC a break either not did the offense
it was an all around bad performance. Hopefully we can give Joba some run support early tomorrow

and it looks like
1,2,3 in their order did most of the damage. You can let one of them hurt you, but NOT ALL 3.

Cannot wait to see the highlights
I want to see the deer in headlights look he has when he blows a save. Like a kid who just got caught in a lie and knows he can’t talk his way out of it.

Jeter leads the team in OBP and average. Tex leads the team in homers and RBI.
When our two best hitters ground into rally-killing double plays, you’ve got to figure that it just isn’t the Yankees’ day.
Still, they don’t lose any ground to the Red Sox today. I’d call it a wash.

Pissants lost too!
I do believe that’s the first time in a while that when the Yanks actually lost, they really had no comeback in them.
CC pitched like crap. But also the Yanks D didn’t help out, nor when the team scores 1 run it gives you a chance anyway.
He needs to be better, but in a sense its kinda good he isn’t going 9 innings all the time like last season. Id rather have him be fresh when it counts.

Kazmir love pitching against Yanks and Sox
It seems he always brings his A-game when he plays the big dogs. If any team where smart (including the dumbest in pro-sports: the NY baseball "J"ets) they should trade for this guy while his stock is down.

Papelbon
Papelbon He was brutal, somebody was right he does choke. CC, A-rod sorry when u make that kind of money you can’t be that bad even 5% of the time. Nobody’s perfect but when u sign for lots of money the Yankees have a right to expect big things. Both this year have not lived up to Yankee standards even though the Yanks are right now in 1st place.

CC
one game does not a season make.
He’s been just fine this season thank you.
And that surgery for A-Rod that caused him to miss 1 month and he’s still recovering from…and will have offseason surgery to correct again…..yea we’ll just forget about that (and that he’s 2nd on the team in damn near everything.)
by FreeBradshaw on Jul 29, 2009 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I dont know where you got your stats
Because he’s only second on the team in home runs. yea we’ll just forget about that

well Im sorry
if tied for second on the team with 57 RBI doesn make it his sole possesion.
Nor does OPS count either, second on the team there (and its not like he’s lagging in slugging either…he’s second on the team there…)
SO he’s second in HR, second in RBI, second in OPS (which matters more than batting average).
And I said damn near everything, cuz walks he’s 3rd (but only 1 behind #2, Texiera).
Maybe look at a stat before you yell at my stats.

2 out of 3
that should be the mantra the rest of the season. Need to win this game today, put a little doubt in the Rays minds and take another series. Rays did it all last night, good pitching, flashed the leather when they needed to, and the Yanks ( Matsui) ran themselves out of the only inning they had anything going.
Can anybody be happier than the Blue Jays, now that Wang is out for the season, and Aceves has a sore shoulder? Puts the Yankees back in the Halladay biding war, one would think.

I'd go further
and say that even 5/9 is OK on roadies. If the Yankees keep playing just over .500 on the road, and dominating at home, they are a playoff lock.

We need to get Melancon more playing time.
He pitched 2+ innings of scoreless relief (albeit there was no pressure on him). Pretty good for a guy who hadn’t pitched for months.
