I Need An Answer
Ok, this isnt going to be a long blog, i just have one question. I have been watching Eric Hinske. Why doesnt he get more starts? come on five hits four of them home runs. He currently jus hit an rbi single to give the Yankees their first lead of the game. why isnt he getting some more starts to see if he stays on fire? Just was wondering...

Because
Ever heard of Kevin Maas? Shane Spencer? Glenallen Hill? or at least Shelley Duncan?
To be more obvious. After Hinske won the rookie of the year award in 02 he’s been all downhill since. there’s a good reason why he’s been on the Jays / Sox / Rays / Pirates / Yankees all in the span of 4 season. because he’s simply not that good anymore. he is what you call a young player with old player skills. in that he was already at his peak in his early/ mid 20s. and faded fast.
He’s a decent hitter against non-overpowering right handed pitching, but once exposed to lefties he’s useless. he strikes out a lot. and his batspeed is terrible.
Basically, he’s kinda like Nick Swisher. except that he can only hit from (and against) one side.
(Eric Hinske career against lefty : 224/.300/.374 , he is exactly the type of player that you carry a LOOGY for.)
He’s a nice platoon player. but not really much of an everyday starter.

But career numbers aside
the guy has a hot bat. Put him in there until it cools off.

sure , but
A. Swisher’s been doing poorly late. though he’s also one of those super hot super cold guys who could throw up a 1.000 OPS month as easily as a 600ish one.
B. Damon’s hiting well.
you COULD put him at 3rd instead of Ransom. though even Cody Ransom is a considerable 3B upgrade defensively from Hinske.

I voted Melky because
This was tough, but when you look at the overall picture, IMO Melky has been the most consistent defensively, and the bat is good. I edge him over Gardy because of the more starts and I think better bat. I also think Hinske is a valuable piece. Familiar with the division, the pitchers, players etc, etc.
I just think Johnny and Swish are clearly more valuable at the dish than in the field. Hence why the get more starts. I’m cool with the platooning though.

I understand
that some of you guys think he is going downhill, but that doesn’t mean he has a hot bat. I don’t understand why he cant just get more at bats he has been on fire and has been showing he can drive in runs.

cuz he's a DH
and Matsui’s a better hitter.
As boneheaded Swish is out there, Hinske can’t get to 3/4 of the balls that Swish gets too. He’s slow.
He’s got a hot bat right now, but he’d probably cost more runs in the OF than Swish.

Why
The way he has been worked in to the line up has payed dividends. That’s his job and he has done well with it. Why touch it??
I see things you don't see.
