Cannot let Halladay go to the Red Sox

If the Red Sox get Halladay the Yanks will be the second class citizens of the East for the next four years.  Cashman cannot let that happen.  Halladay is a franchise changer for either the Yanks or Red Sox.

I'm not saying I want the Yanks to get Halladay.  I think it will cost too much in youth.  So, I hope Halladay goes to the NL (Phils or Dodgers).  But if it looks like Halladay is going to the Red Sox then even if we have to give Joba or Hughes, Cashman has to pull the trigger.

To be honest, I'm not very worried about the Red Soxs

I don’t think the Red Soxs will give up the prospects. Maybe the White Soxs will. Having Halladay on our team will add to our Luxury Taxs.

I like it better on this website when everyone relaxs.

To make sure everyone reads this, I will send out faxs.

Nah...

This wouldn’t make the Yankees second to anyone. Even if they got Halladay, I still ain’t scared of the Red Sox. The Yankees can beat Beckett, they can beat Lester too.

The Red Sox don’t need pitching anyway. Kinda like the Yankees, the only thing they’re worried about is 5th starter, cuz John Smoltz isn’t doing anything.

But unlike the Yankees, the Red Sox’ lineup isn’t all that good. They already got Adam Laroche and Chris Duncan may end up getting some AB’s

But they would definitely have to give up Bucholz for him, and they don’t want to do that.

I don’t want to see him go there, but he’s gonna cost just as much in prospects to them as he would to the Yankees.

agreed

If anyone won’t sell the farm for an older pitcher- it’s Theo. Maybe if Halladay was a 27-28 year old of similar stature, but not at 32.

the red sox cant hit. they need hitters not pitchers.
they have more pitching than any team in all of baseball. its ridiculous. (((they cant hit. wheres manny????)))

agree 2

hitting is their concern, that would be risky to thin out their prospects the same way it would be for the Yanks. Theo seems to stay away from guys over thirty (except Schilling)

Phillies a probable landing spot

And dangerous for us being that if the Phillies get Halladay ..they are the odds on to win the WOrld Series …Granted we have to win a playoff series first but the Phillies and Dodgers are equally as dangerous as the Sawx getting him at least in the short term … I would like Cash to add a SP regardless and I still contend if you can Halladay without surrendering Hughes or Joba …you do the deal even if you have to take back Wells hideous contract..

Wells contract

I agree with Muskrat and posted an earlier argument that the Yanks should take back Wells’ s contract so they do not have to give up Joba or Hughes.

Even

Halladay isn’t good enough to take back that contract.

Halladay

I agree. Halladay must not go to the R.Sox. Yankees to the World Series this year. Littlr George can then sit and see much money He made, Go Yanks

Halladay to uhhh...y'know who

All NL trade permutations aside, let’s do the nightmare scenario:

(Kepner, NYT Sunday 7/26/09)

Let’s assume the RS are in the running for Halladay, and they give most of the real estate in the Fens to acquire his arm. Pros:

Every team in the AL East has a balanced hitting lineup, but the J’s are short on quality pitching, and do not draw well when the RS or the Yankees are not in town (same article) a reason why AJ Burnett is in pinstripes.

In bygone days, the RS could not come up with cash, or players and would settle on grinding out the season, and hope to come out on top. But, they have a trade prospect in Clay Bucholtz, who is in the top tier in the IL at the moment. Dice-K is hurt, Schilling is out to pasture and a blogger, and a 42-year old Wakefield won’t sustain the staff.

Beckett is reportedly off limits and is arguably the best pitcher in the division right now. A tandem of Beckett and Halladay would be formidable.

So, if you are Henry and Theo do you pull the switch? Add Bay, perhaps a newly acquired utility player or two and it starts to make sense (shudder)

The Yankees, on the other hand, have nada in IL pitching prospects, less you count the oft-forgotten Kei Hagawa – who Cash seems to think would shore the bullpen against lefties. So, if you are Cashman, do you pre-empt a possible trade? What would you think of this trade?

Joba (or) Phil Hughes, Aceves. Montrero. Ajax.

Joba No
Hughes Nyet
Aceves – OK
Robertson – OK
Montrero – years away, who knows OK
Ajax same OK

If you are ‘Doc’ Halladay, what are your thoughts?

It’s the chance to pitch in and win the WS.

And, if you are in a team in contention, is it possible that you monetize Halladay for perhaps two to three good post seasons?

NOT A CHANCE

JP Richardi is not a GM you get over on. The Red Sox have proven one thing over the last 7 years. When it comes to trading and free agents they have a lowball get over mentality. JP is local to Massachusetts and sees right through it. They will NOT get over on JP and therefore they won’t get Halladay

I see things you don't see.
