Burnett Suspended Six Games
From the Worldwide leader:
Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett has been suspended six games for throwing a pitch over the head of the Rangers' Nelson Cruz in Tuesday night's game. Burnett has filed an appeal of the penalty, however, and will be allowed to pitch until the appeals process is complete.
Rangers pitcher Vicente Padilla, who hit Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira with two pitches Tuesday, was fined an undisclosed amount.
Okay, I get it- so if you actually hit the guy, you don't get suspended. Idiotic. If the intent was was there on both sides, they should be dealt with equally.

Padilla
I think he would be suspended too, but I think he was put on outright waivers.

this is bull
that’s how baseball is played
you hit one of our guys, albeit TWICE, you are going to see a ball thrown your way
and if you’ve noticed with Girardi we it seems the last two years we don’t even hit the guys we just throw near their head
so no bruises or anything

It's 2 extra days between starts, for one start! No big deal!
If he takes the suspension at a time when there’s some off days, say split by tha all star break, we won’t even need a spot starter.
At thr moment we have an extra starteer anyway.
If I's known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself. Casey

the suspension's
not a big deal.. but it’s the principle of it more than anything for me.

that's what bothers me too
not to spin this back on the Red Sox, but let’s compare these situations:
Josh Beckett against the Angels intentionally throws with intent to maim Bobby Abreu unprovoked, and then taunts, inciting a benches-clearing brawl = six-game suspension.
AJ Burnett retaliates after his teammate was hit not once, but twice, by the same pitcher. he also throws over the head of Nelson Cruz (which i’m not condoning). however, no taunting, and no brawl = six-game suspension.
both guys threw at the head which is a big no-no, but does anyone actually think the Burnett situation warrants the same punishment as the Beckett situation (and the subsequent result)?

Bud
wants to make sure both miss a spot in the rotation, so anything less than six games then both burnett and beckett can make there scheduled starts. Now if Girardi wants to get burnett in the first game back he’s forced to move the whole rotation back a day, possibly 2 if there is an off day.

Zambrano
my issue with this is that after the show that Zambrano put on last week he was only suspended for 6 games (effectively 1 start). Yes Burnett threw at a batter but he didn’t hit him, what is the justification for a 6 game ban? Padilla was fined but how many times can the league fine him for the same problem? I was however amused by Padilla’s claim that he didn’t hit Tex on purpose. The second time he hit him square, there was no way that anyone could say it wasn’t on purpose.

My opinion
First time poster…. (is that how you say it) long time Yankee fan. Felt like i had to put my 2 cents worth in. I think its absolutely ridiculous he was suspended. I watched the game and where Padilla hit Tex is the classic hit a batter on purpose spot. However, the situation was a really stupid situation to hit someone when you got Arod hitting behind him. Thus… it probably was an accident (though he should be fined for being a horrible pitcher and the fact it was the 2nd time he hit him… and the history between the two). When Burnett threw up and in…. no doubt it was a purpose pitch… and thus should be fined. But to suspend a player for not hitting someone is excessive; if your not going to suspend padilla too. Finally, if the umpire had just warned each bench when padilla had hit him the first time…. this all would have been avoided…. cause if Burnett throws up and in after a warning, a suspension is warranted.

suspend Selig
He’s a horse’s a—, for not suspending Padilla, who throws/threw at Ichiro’s knees and other hitters.
This is as tiupid call…but that’s your Bud, a weak-willed poser of a commissioner.

Ump
Where was the ump after Padilla threw the first time at Tex? Both benches should have been warned after the first inning. Instead, nothing.
